What could this be?

Even if he is? He would not announce it at this time. It would forfeit his possibility of making the u19 team.
You sure about that? They have college players on that tryout list. It would mean he'd have to report to Lexington though and he's the type word would get out quickly if he was going to reclassify.

I've got a guess of who I think it is, told 2 people via PM here and it's only a guess based on nothing but throwing crap at the wall, so if I'm wrong, I'll still name who I told them. I don't want to say the name in case it's correct, due to not wanting to spoil the player's announcement. If it doesn't happen today as this "PhreshSinatra" guy hinted at, then I'll name who my guess was later tonight if nothing has been mentioned.
I hope it's a big man.2 on our whole roster at the moment.

Is he 6'6" or taller?

My speculation is a GUESS. I don't have any info here from friend or anyone else. But the guy who is funky phresh sinatra said it would be a "Surprise" and this guy would fit the criteria of that. He is an intriguing player too. I'll name him tonight if it's NOT him, or he's not announced as this guy mentioned. Just my own guess and told 2 people here last night of my guess via PM so they can confirm what I said that right or wrong.

Onyenso is going to give us something like 7, 7, and 2 next year. Then he'll leave for the draft or transfer.

We'll lose the entire roster, save Sheppard and maybe Thiero. You thought this summer was crazy? Just wait until next year when it becomes clear Cal has decided to stay on longer after we win another 20 to 24 games and get bounced with the freshmen-led team.
I wish I could say your possible forecast of the future was crazy. But, of course, I can't.

Even though it's been a rough week, my guess is if they are hoping for hype, most players or teams would save a surprise announcement for Monday.

I do know that once they reclassify, the player is disqualified from any pre college Allstar games, actually I am not sure if the u19 falls under that category.

No problem with that at all, good take here. But saying we're gonna need to start walk-ons at some point during the season is frankly ludicrous.
Yes it would be ridiculous, AS LONG AS we have 5 healthy scholarship players. People are concerned about roster numbers, and you can't rationally say it isn't a legitimate concern until we have at least 10. More would be better. But right now we have 7, which is a long way from 10.

Cal and Mitch say there is a plan in place, and I believe them. But I also know Cal bungled the portal. That is what it is. Mitch is now laying down public cover for Cal, which looks odd to me.

Some decent grad transfers are still available. Here is what concerns me. Why did we strike out during the portal window? Was Cal trying to get visiting kids to wait to decide, so he could figure out who was coming back and overmanage our roster? Or is there a reason visible to visitors why no one wants to play here now? My guess is the former. If I am right, Cal will pick up a couple of so so grad transfers but the roster will still be a little bit short and vulnerable to injuries. If I am wrong and if something else is driving players off, then our team is in trouble next season because you can't play a season with 7 scholarship players. You can't even run a practice that way. So I hope Cal really does have a plan and can make it work, because everyone is sick up to the eyeballs of all this silliness.

I am aware of the hire. But I also expect him to be on a one year lease like Lucas and Turner were. Instead of UK being a destination program it's a stepping stone program for players and coaches. I wish Cal would follow that trend and mosey on out of town.
Kentucky is not a stepping stone program and never will be. It is a mismanaged program right now, and there is a big difference.

Don't think so because we saw mix of HS/College guys playing when Cal coached this group a few years ago. He had Diallo/PJ Washington/Okogie mixed in with Reddish/King/Quickley/Langford etc..

Think it would be more about if that were to take place, the player in case of Kentucky would pull out due to them having a Tournament to play in about 5 1/2 weeks.

Again, didn't think it was ever Knox though so he's not who I'm referring to.

I honestly had never heard of him before. Thanks for the info.
Didn't mean to sound or come off as condescending but he's a well known younger recruit and his dad played FB at Kentucky--Dennis. He's been offered and is very talented guy who plays for a loaded Team Thad on EYBL. Others can tell you more about his HS career/exploits to this point seeing they have seen more of him but I like they offered and he's a talented guy.

Cal is loyal to his guys, likely to a fault. We have a super class coming in that are all going to command a lot of playing time. We had 3 guys testing the draft which is a lot of uncertainty. High profile guys aren't going to transfer unless they k ow their role and too many questions out there with 3 possible returnees. I don't think it's any more complex than that.

If we're not getting any players because of no NIL guarantee, then we will never get another quality player again......ever. Right?
Something would have to change. Will it?

Bro c'mon. I don't care who you are, no coach is going into the season with 7 players, just won't happen. We may have to fill it with low D1 talent, but it will be filled. The point of the post was there is zero chance we start walk-ons due to injuries and not having enough guys to not start walk-ons.
So we are going to take scrubs to full the roster, players that won’t challenge the freshmen for minutes so not to take their heart. I agree walk ons won’t start but we have zilch of a bench and trying to bring in 17yr old kids to compete with men is ludicrous.

I wasn't arguing that it was an ideal way to construct a roster. Just that we won't be starting walk ONS.

So, it looks like we have a chance for a couple of players for this year and you start on the problems for next year. Besides the ridiculous name of Son of Saul what do your friends? call you. Sunshine, Mr. Happy maybe?

Yeah, as usual, looks like nothing. Obviously things going on behind scenes as Ralph alluded to but doesn't appear any good news today.

Joey Hart is coming. We beat out UCF!!!
I wish Kentucky would've landed Taylor Hendricks last year. He would've been their best player.

I don't know much about Hart, but remember UCF is moving to the Big 12 so Dawkins viewed him as a Big 12 caliber player. From tape of him, wouldn't be opposed at all to adding him.

Now that doesn't mean you don't add more experience to the roster and that's where everyone shares your criticisms/concerns.

Is Hart who you were speculating about?

It's past 9pm EST time so I'll just say who I am guessing--again this isn't any info or rumor, it's just my own speculation that would qualify as a surprise and he's connected to all the players those media guys mentioned.

Jordan Burks. He's a 6'9/6'10 forward who signed with Ole Miss in the Fall and asked out of the LOI at end of March. He played on FL Rebels in EYBL last AAU season and was in OTE League. Was the leading scorer in that league with around 27 ppg and has had some serious interest from G-League Ignite. He has moved around a lot as often happens in basketball world but started out in Decatur, AL, moved to Kissimmee, FL, ended up at SoCal Academy where he played with Isiah Miranda and then Hillcrest Prep before ending in OTE league. Missouri had a lot of interest in him in the Fall as did Florida, Marquette, Illinois, and several others. Michigan State liked him in EYBL last year too.

He's a talented guy who has perimeter skill as he was 6'6 and shot up to 6'9/6'10 range but kept his perimeter skill set. Know he's an SEC caliber player because he signed in the conference and had SEC schools offer or interested in him. Talented enough G-League Ignite likes him as well.

But that would explain the connections to Karter Knox, Isaiah Miranda, Robert Dillingham but still be seen as a "surprise".

Again this is based on nothing but my own speculation based on who wrote it and thinking that guys like Miranda, etc...wouldn't be seen as any surprise. So if I'm wrong, apologize and if I'm right, and he wanted to do something special to commit/announce, apologize but figured if this guy said it was happening today and it's past 9 EST--not likely when you break a commitment announcement.

Seems the kid has bounced around a lot and received a lot of interest from many interests. I‘m wondering why he hasn’t landed somewhere yet.

We need bodies but watching some video on him he didn't look very impressive and doubt he helps us this season at all if he comes.
