The NIL aspect is always going to be lingering, regardless of the coach. What is UK willing to do to be a top25 destination for basketball AND football?
UK already is. It can be debated whether UK is top 25 yet in football, but I say yes. There are some teams currently ranked ahead of UK in the national poll like SMU, Liberty, and UL that are ranked essentially for political reasons, not because they have better football programs than UK. This isn't about if you think we should have beaten SCar in Carolumbia this year. It's about program performance over the last decade. Say what you will. If we aren't top 25, we will be soon and we are already on the cusp now.
UK is a founding member of the SEC. UK receives truckloads of TV network and bowl revenue by virtue of being an SEC member. UK isn't moving to the ACC or anywhere else. All SEC schools, including UK, are working to adapt to the moving target that is the NIL rule. And let's be very clear. Kentucky is a small state, but UK is a huge university. UK grads are all over the world, making a whole lot of money. In the BBN are hundreds of thousands of fans at all income levels. UK has just as much access to corporate sponsorships as any other school. The main shortcoming so far has been failure of the entire fan base at all levels to go all in. But more are joining the 15 Club every day, and this will get better. Coach Marrow was very eloquent about this again yesterday.
Almost this entire thread is the negative nancy thread for national signing day. The negativity and pessimism on this board is astounding, and completely divorced from what is happening at the University.
Maybe he should pony up about $3M of that salary and divy it up amongst high profile players? If done discreetly, who’d know?
Wow. Who'd know? Everyone would, when the federal charges are filed. First of all, failing to list a $3 million expenditure on the published budget of a public institution receiving federal grants is fraud and would be the kind of scandal that gets a university president thrown in jail. This isn't a black file or a DARPA project. The University is subject to state and federal disclosure the laws. You may not believe this, but there actually is oversight at the federal and state levels, not to mention the University Board of Trustees which is directly responsible.
Besides that, the school cannot participate in NIL. For the umpteenth time, Coach Marrow clarified this again yesterday. Paraphrasing Marrow, when a prospect asked him about money, he is not even allowed to answer the question.
