I’ll agree on the fan interest but even that is waning after this past season. To use the old basketball adage, you don’t have to win ‘em all but you gotta win some of em. Fans want a winner. They don’t care if we are beating Kansas or Arkansas, Clemson or Georgia, Tennessee or Duke, Texas Tech or Texas, they want wins. Staying in the SEC ain’t going to get us those wins. So again, all you experts on here saying we can’t leave the conference, are you ok with us going 1-8, 2-7, maybe 3-6 in conference the next 10 years? Because that’s what you’re saying when you say I’m crazy for wanting us to move to another conference.Well, if we are ever legitimate competitors for anything significant, we will know it prior to the playoffs.
Recruiting and fan interest are higher for a program playing other strong programs.
Sure, we’d have an easier time making the playoffs as a G5 program, but who would show up to watch us play a MAC or AAC schedule? And making the playoffs would likely not result in playoff victories.
