If High Points fires him he may be the most fired college coach in history. Even NBA coaches seldom get fired as often as Tubby. They take the hint and find something else to do, like commentary on TV. The media claims Kentucky fired him so counting High Point there are at least 5 schools that wanted him gone.

His mediocre record at Georgia was acceptable for Georgia fans but they don't give a dang about basketball. Tubby may be one of the most overrated coaches in NCAA history. You don't get fired at most every school you coach if you are any good.

And there are those who want his name in Rupp's rafters. Go figure

My .02 on Tubby is that he was a decent coach, but we don't accept decent at UK. We don't settle for Sweet 16's and Elite 8's. He had a certain way of playing the game, and refused to adapt, and just mailed it in the last few years at UK (almost like a middle finger to the fans). I thought he was fine at Minnesota, but should have hung it up after that. The game has passed him; unlike Cal, he refuses to acknowledge or change. His X's and O's might be pretty solid, but recruiting and use of personnel are very important components which he severely lacks. He needs to go off into the sunset and enjoy retirement. I think he would make a pretty good analyst, but a coach, not so much.

If UK ever gets a new basketball arena, it needs to be named the Orlando Tubby Smith Center complete with a statue of him in front of it. I also think a lifetime contract for Tubby is in order and a standing offer for Saul and G.G. to come be assistant coaches with the understanding they'd be first in line whenever Calipari leaves.

If High Point fired Tubby, it would be pathetic on their end. Tubby has spent millions of dollars of his own money to help his alma mater. If they are a university of integrity, he will go out when he decides he is ready. I look for the Panthers to improve because Tubby has that fire in his belly he's always had to prove his haters and naysayers wrong.

I do think UK should offer the Panthers a guarantee game this upcoming season in case Tubby does decide to retire. Be a kind gesture for a man who represented UK with such class and dignity, unlike the man who he replaced and the man who replaced him.

Yes they have, but they improved a great deal last season. They were in almost every game. They should be much better this season.

I would be wiling to bet Tubby has given more than just this to his alma mater. I know when he was at UK they played High Point and I'm sure those were guarantee games which meant High Point got a nice check:

With Cal you've settled for two NIT's and the first losing season since 1989. All that great NBA talent that's flocked to Cal should have given him multiple titles by now. Having said that, I do think he would make a great analyst but he still has work to do at High Point. As long as he has that fire in his belly, he's going to be on the sidelines. It will be a sad day when he hangs it up because college basketball will have lost one of its classiest coaches of all time.

We as UK fans, cheer for, buy apparel, tickets and constantly support our team which is usually made up of 90% African Americans.

As for Texas Tech, he left on his own for Memphis who offered him more money. He does have a large extended family that he helps provide for so I dont blame him there. He left Texas Tech in great shape which Chris Beard took full advantage of. Tubby is too good for a lot of these schools and fan bases, for that matter.

Im a fan of UK, i dont give a chit how nice the coach is. Is the coach worth a damn? In Tubby's case, no. He's failed at more places then won. Tulsa and UGA are is bright spots. He won a title with Pitinos players, then made us Indiana. Every school since UK the fans wanted him gone.

No, he won with his players. They werent Pitino's players once he left for Boston. Last I checked, Indiana has missed the tournament several times since Bob Knight was fired, Tubby never missed the tournament here, something BOTH of his successors have done. Kentucky was lucky to have such a class act represent it.

I think it was very possible. After he left look how quickly they sank under Ron Jirsa. Since Tubby left Georgia, they've won exactly one NCAA tournament game since and that was with Jim Harrick at the helm who didnt exactly recruit on the up and up.
