Stupidity of some of the not so great members of the fanbase who hurled insults and death threats to he and his family. If UK ever gets a new basketball arena, it needs to be named the Orlando Tubby Smith Center complete with a statue of him in front of it. I also think a lifetime contract for Tubby is in order and a standing offer for Saul and G.G. to come be assistant coaches with the understanding they'd be first in line whenever Calipari leaves.

Tubby Smith was a average head coach at UK. He basically had two good seasons and one great one. The rest were average at best. And in the meanwhile he was covertly negotiating with both Virginia and USCjr. to jump ship. And let's not forget that he made the deal with Minnesota in secret and didn't even stick around to say goodbye to his players.

People were screaming for BCG's head because they saw the damage he was doing to the program. And he was pretty white.

Eddie Sutton was let go and he was pretty white.

Fans stuck with Tubby even through the Team Turmoil and Ten Loss Tubby years. The drop off in recruiting, unwillingness to hire new assistants and finishing unranked his last two years with early exits in the Dance, on top of only ONE FINAL FOUR is what got people calling for Tubby to go.

Cal goes 9-16 another year and I'd say he's on the very hot seat if he's not out....and he's pretty white.

The main point is this: UK fans expect and demand the very best from the program. That means the coach, the players, the facilities, etc. If a coach or player can't deliver after being given enough time to prove themselves, then the program moves on to someone who can.

I wasnt being sarcastic, just a fan of Tubby as a coach and a person. I remember being heartbroken in 92 and that one will always hurt, but 1998 was really special. Its just a shame to me some people love making threads trying to shine a negative light on him. Its kind of like with Pitino and Duke, some UK fans cant let things go, so I'm not going to let it go that Tubby was a great coach and role model.

Not a parody but a straight up Troll. I liked Tubby just think he isn't comfortable with the shady side of recruiting especially AAU. That being said to coach at our great program you better be able to recruit at a very high level. Tubbys style was boring to some but as long as he was winning I could have cared less. I agree that Tubby wasnt comfortable with the shady side of recruiting. He thought the UK name and tradition should have been enough, which it always was but with AAU and also cable television, more schools got exposure and suddenly UK wasnt the beat all end all, not to mention the days of the hundred dollar handshakes and selling tickets were over as well and the homegrown talent pool dried up considerably.

I agree Tubby probably would think that treatment isnt justified because he is a humble man who has worked hard every where he's been. He broke the color line at Georgia and UK as far as the men's basketball head coaching job went and to me, he's like Jackie Robinson, especially considering some of the attitudes that can be easily found in either state.

I'll stop posting when so many quite sharing their negative articles or comments on a great person.

I'm sure other schools wanted Tubby but in the end he stayed at Kentucky until, in my opinion the fan base made him realize he was too good for a school, or fanbase rather that didnt appreciate him.

If High Point fired Tubby, it would be pathetic on their end. Tubby has spent millions of dollars of his own money to help his alma mater. If they are a university of integrity, he will go out when he decides he is ready. I look for the Panthers to improve because Tubby has that fire in his belly he's always had to prove his haters and naysayers wrong.

I do think UK should offer the Panthers a guarantee game this upcoming season in case Tubby does decide to retire. Be a kind gesture for a man who represented UK with such class and dignity, unlike the man who he replaced and the man who replaced him.

If High Points fires him he may be the most fired college coach in history. Even NBA coaches seldom get fired as often as Tubby. They take the hint and find something else to do, like commentary on TV. The media claims Kentucky fired him so counting High Point there are at least 5 schools that wanted him gone.

His mediocre record at Georgia was acceptable for Georgia fans but they don't give a dang about basketball. Tubby may be one of the most overrated coaches in NCAA history. You don't get fired at most every school you coach if you are any good.

And there are those who want his name in Rupp's rafters. Go figure
