I'm not normally one to blame officials on a loss. And yes, we probably should have won this game even despite them. But my God, this one was truly awful. I went back and made a "highlight" reel of the 5 "fouls" on Reid Travis. I would contend that every one of them was a bad call. Maaaaybe the first one. And perhaps a no call on his 4th. People only want to look at the last 1 or 2 calls. But every bad call matters against one of your most important players. There is no way you will convince me that we lose this game without Reid.

All that being said, although I'm frustrated with the loss, I think we actually played great today (aside from the final 3 minutes), and definitely are playing well enough to contend for a title. Excited for tomorrow to see who we will be beating next week!

3rd and 5th were egregious. First 2, I won’t complain about. 4th looked like a charge to me, but that call is often missed. Thought Keldon’s charge wasn’t a bad call either. Yes, Williams flopped - as he did on Travis’ 2nd - but those weren’t horrible calls. But the 3rd and 5th, goodness, those were just inept.

That was brutal to watch. His last 3 fouls were complete BS. That ref was about to call a charge until the baseline ref called a block.

I f****** hate Williams and his flopping ass. Dude is everything wrong with how basketball is played today.

That was a game changer. Couldn't believe it when I saw it.

Can't blame Williams.

He sold crap on a stick all game and the refs bought it.

The adults in the room who get paid to know better should be held responsible.

The refs were terrible on 4/5ths of those foul calls.

He’s been selling that crap on a stick all year and they’ve bought it nearly all year.

What do you do as a player? It’s just garbage.

For those that say the refs didn't cost us the game are 100% wrong.

If they get those calls right, Travis doesn't foul out. If RT is in the game, he doesn't let GW grab that rebound (between KJ and EJ) that led to the go ahead three. He probably also prevents GW from his 3 in the corner.

Yes it's sour grapes, but that doesn't mean it can't also be the truth.

Video proof..and some will still call you a conspiracy theorist. What a joke. Horrible, biased, and on the take officiating. No doubt about it.

Is it really a conspiracy tho?

I mean maybe the refs just stink at their job lol

Watched the end of that Florida Auburn game............that wasn't a foul? lol

To me, saying the officials are out to get one team (ie. Kentucky) is completely different from saying the refs stink at their job.

The second part of that statement is probably true, the first part not so much

Thanks for putting this together, by the way.

You're awesome.

I agree, and by no means do I believe there is some kind of anti-UK conspiracy. I think alot of these officials are just simply inept, and are influenced by things like crowd noise. They also put WAY too much importance on the fouls being "even" instead of just calling the game as they see it. You can mark it down that if one team has 3-4 less fouls than their opponent, it will be evened up in minutes. It's really hard to watch.

Agree. I don't think they're part of some plot against UK; I just think they suck at refereeing.

There is definitely bias sometimes because it's human nature, but it's not some Illuminati/NCAA master plan.

Jesus I totally forgot about the PJ 3 in the corner we lost on the BS KJ charge call which he barely touched the guy and he flopped.

That would have given us a 10 point lead. I am sure there were bad calls against Tennessee as well but my god it sure couldn't have evened out.

Williams would been out of the game had they called that charge on him when he trucked Travis how the hell was that a block on Travis.

My god I hate to complain about the refs but my god those were all mostly awful calls.

Definitely about the crowd noise. That's what accounts for some of the home court advantage.

The thing about evening up the fouls that never gets talked about is........if I'm a team that hasn't fouled much in the first half, I have more fouls to give........I can be more aggressive in the second half. And teams just are.

Not saying that the officials don't try to even it up, but that very well could explain why you see one team fouling more than another and have it flip flopped later on in the game.

And also, it's possible we can see a bias on an individual level. Maybe Shows doesn't like Cal, maybe Higgins doesn't like UK.........i mean they are human.

It just becomes laughable when people start to generalized things.......as if all refs hate UK.

We've done pretty well in our entire history for that to be the case lol

They don't hate UK..the NCAA does want their precious UNC and Duke to pass UK in NCAA National Titles though. See UNC's 2017 National Title "run" or the last 10 minutes of the Wisconsin/Duke National Title game in 2015..or when Wisconsin's Nigel Hayes was still holding the ball in his hands with the shot clock showing zero and Higgins staring right at it in that same Final 4 vs. UK. Also see UNC not getting any punishment whatsoever for over 20 years of Academic Fraud. Just for a few examples.

Here’s a post with a video where Jamie Luckie is giving a Seminar and emphasizes just that: https://kentucky.forums.rivals.com/threads/jamie-luckie-and-kentucky.263353/page-2#post-6804184
They look to mirror calls. I just want them to be fair, regardless of who wins.

Outside of the phantom 5th I thought Keldon charge call was the worst one (Reid block a close 2nd). Williams has 30 lbs on KJ....and KJ stopped on a dime and barely made contact.

The block/charge is worst call in basketball. It is simple, if they don't lower their shoulder it isn't a player control foul- change the damn rule.

I couldn’t watch today, had to listen to it on the radio. This makes me feel a little different and I’m not a ref blamer.

Dang, some of those were really bad. Makes a big difference at the end and unless I’m crazy he picked up 3 fouls in the last 5 minutes and change.

I can kind of see why the conspiracy theorist are out tonight!

I think that when a ref makes a bad call, they try to even it up on the other side.

That's where I think the evening ends tho.

I mean guys.......since Cal has gotten here most years we have made more free throws than our opponents have taken.

We have feasted at getting fouled and getting to the line lol

Most seasons, offensive rebounding and getting to the line IS our offense.

Hard to watch that 5th and final one. Shows called it, was pleased with himself, and yet he was BEHIND the action so he couldn't even see that there was no contact. He just assumed it entirely. Effing terrible.
