Seems like they've had several of their best go into the portal. I suppose if this is true maybe some go back to Vandy?

They told The Athletic that fundraising efforts on behalf of the Anchor Impact collective took a recent and significant upturn, pushing into several million dollars the amount of money available for the recruiting and retention of football players.

Clark Lea is about to go buy a new team.

“This is credible,” a source said. “This is real. This is legit. Vanderbilt football has the resources to do everything at an SEC level.”
...
For football alone, in a hazy world with no clearly defined market and no database tracking the financial statements of each collective, conventional wisdom puts $5 million a year as the target to maintain a competitive Power 5 roster. That’s Vanderbilt’s charge. Recent donations mean a prudent use of resources this offseason could leave a healthy chunk as a head start on the next one.

Nebraska coach Matt Rhule recently told reporters that a “good quarterback in the portal costs $1.5 million or $2 million” a year. That’s Vanderbilt’s challenge.

...

The losses are heavy. But they are losses from a 2-10 team. The returns are heavier, including several young players who need to capitalize on the opportunity, joined by another recruiting class that punches above Vandy’s historical weight — ranked No. 36 nationally by 247Sports.com.

And now Lea has the necessary resources, from every angle, to compete. The facilities are materializing. Lea got what a source called a “significant” increase in the assistant coach salary pool from predecessor Derek Mason and must hire an offensive coordinator to replace the fired Joey Lynch.

It's just a matter of choice. Vandy has always been the "Ivy league" of the south and never really let athletics get too far up on a pedestal. However, they have the money, alumni, location to do something should they ever decide they want to really invest and make a move.

Nashville is a great destination city and booming. Lots of wealth and businesses there. Obviously, an entertainment hub.

Good location to get to a lot of talent hot spots in the south relatively conveniently.

God bless them but it is a hopeless situation, now more than ever.

Anyone decent who they recruited and play early then are taken by winning SEC teams. But on the flip side their academics make portal transfers damn near impossible.

If the Ivy League donors and boosters ever took a serious interest in basketball, the NIL$$$ potential there would be incredible ... !!

I feel for Vandy...and this is what is wrong about college football/NIL/portal crap.

1. UK gets their best RB in Ray Davis
2. Miss St gets their QB in Mike Wright
3. Auburn gets one of their better defenders in Elijah McCalister
4. Miam gets Jaidias Richard starting DB...

And this year they go back to 2 wins and 10 losses and even now...they have a few starters that can play....in the portal to leave.

With NIL their potential is greater than ever. Just a matter
if they want to go with it. Lots of wealthy alum, a thriving
business environment. They could kill it!

Aren’t we 13th out of 14 in the SEC just ahead of Vandy I presume? If true we’re in bad shape too.
Definitely. At least we have no handcuffs on bringing in transfers.

Good football players can't be paid to join on to get their heads kicked in 9 games a year. Lea has to put at least a 6-6 team on the field once. Then players would give him a chance while taking the money.

Vandy has problems with development of football, because athletics are not as much of a priority at Vandy as at most other Power 5 schools. Vandy's administration is focused on their medical center and their academic excellence. This is not a weakness. But NIL does not have to be a problem for Vandy, if handled correctly. Where does NIL come from? Answer - alumni and area business interests. Nashville has one of the most vibrant economies of any US city, and is growing like crazy. Businesses are actually moving to Nashville. Vandy also has a gazillion wealthy alumni. If Vandy really wants avenues for NIL support to thrive, they will have an easier time of it than UK, MS St, AR, or MO.

I don’t know of a credible source. I’ve also heard 11th of 14.

We currently have the 23rd ranked freshman class, have inked a good QB, and brought in some significant skill guys last year.

So, we seem to be trending about where we always have under Stoops: bottom third of the SEC, but pretty strong, nationally.

5 million a year? Tennessee supposedly paid more than that just for a QB.

NIL would not be a $$ issue. My Dad and Daughter both graduated from there and went into lucrative careers.

Admissions is a whole 'nother level though - a player would have to be astute enough to see their future AFTER football + be have the grades to get in. So you have to be smart enough to get in, value the long-term alumni connection instead of immediate NIL $$ and be ready to play SEC-level football. Needle in a haystack...

I don’t think money will be a big issue there. The number of millionaires has tripled in the last few years. Saw a tv news segment yesterday showing the Farari and Lamborghini dealers were out of cars in Nashville and that the numbers of houses over a million had soared with cash buyers. as was stated above having the grades to get in might be a problem
