Hello HOB. Hard to believe we’re typing “November” on practice notes, but somehow, here we are. It’s offense day, so we’ll have what should be an interesting Q&A with OC Rich Scangarello, staff, and players as they try to put Tennessee behind them and prepare for a road game this week at Missouri. They are scheduled to wrap up at approx 5 ET. Stay tuned…
OC RICH SCANGARELLO:
* Scangarello says you can’t overreact to one game, have to take care of the ball, have to create more explosive plays. Felt like they were going to play great, and for a quarter it felt that way. Then it started to get away from them, and you could really see guys press.
* One of those games where if one or two plays unfold different, everything can change.
* The NFL scheme may be tricky for some of the young players, Scang said, but he’s really disappointed because the three days of practice leading up to that were really good. They were extremely confident. The execution wasn’t there.
* Opening drives need evaluated, changed. It’s been a problem.
* Mizzou defense is good. Things aren’t getting any easier this week. UGA went 3 quarters w/o a TD with some of the best players in the country, SC didn’t do much. Gotta be on point.
* Admitted he may have tried to be perfect at times with the playcalling instead of just going with what had worked.
* Will pressed a bit in this one when it started getting away from the Cats, felt like he had to carry them. Tough guy, physically and mentally, knows he will bounce back.
* From the time that game was over, the whole bus ride back, and the next day, he breat himself up about what they could have done to be better, especially in the first half. You have another opponent, though, and the focus has to change quickly.
* UT D-Line was a lot better than they had anticipated.
* Never can overreact to these situations, Scang said. You can’t let it feel like the world is caving in. Stoops’ message to the team has been good this week, they’ve given away a game, but they’re still in the upper echelon of the league, and it’s all about how you finish.
