Tyler Herro is not a good shooter

that is not what Calipari said...after a handful of games had been played this season he said we just began adjusting Tylers shot so he has a quicker release..I know what heard and you don't do that after the season starts..a great way to crush a kids confidence, several games into the season hey your shot sucks lets completely change it...

So if shot sucked already after a few games they didn't mess it up as you originally stated by trying to work on it. Fwiw it looked good against Louisville but reverted back against Bama. Maybe he doesn't have down just yet??

Still he is not so talented that as a freshman he is going to be a Jamal Murray, or Malik Monk so everyone should expect it to take some time before he gets comfortable with it at this level.

I said he was the best passer!

If he's supposedly "the best passer", then I'd suggest he needs to start using that skill more often.

The dude's been a black hole gunner, forking up more shot attempts than anyone else else on the team, despite Keldon Johnson having far better shooting percentages (on both threes and twos) and clearly being the better and more efficient scorer. Perhaps Tyler should look for Keldon more often instead looking to gun nearly every time he touches the ball.

And, I'm sorrry, but a starting guard playing nearly 30 minutes per game but averaging only 2.1 assists (fewer than PJ Washington at the friggin power forward spot) does not exactly scream out "best passer."

Tyler is a good shooter but like any other freshmen, he's inconsistent.
I'm still unsure why the coaching staff started monkeying around with his shot after him shooting the lights out in the bahamas.

Yes he is. He is still growing in to his body, that includes the mental aspect of shooting as well. He is mechanically sound. He herky jerks and shoots off balance at times because he still needs to strengthen his lower body and core.
I used to be really streaky also due to weak legs and core - I was overcompensating with my release due to no lift and it affected my accuracy. Lots of rim outs and back of the rim misses.

Also the jump to a high level d1 strength and conditioning program can have an effect on a shooter. We all know long range shots rely heavily on muscle memory and trusting your follow through, if guys are getting to that next level physically their mind needs time to catch up. I'm definitely no expert, just what I have experienced and seen other people go through.

I love the quote the staff used to use. “What got you here, aint gonna get you there(nba).” I think tylers shot is an example of this quote. The staff knows that in order to excel long term, he is going to have to learn how to get his shot off quicker. Imo we are just watching him struggle learning how to do that. I just hope it clicks by march!

Getting him ready for the pros. Coaches think his shot pocket is too low, especially for a guy his size. More movement from shot pocket to set point in theory means more room for error with your accuracy. Gotta keep everything square and quick.

If it doesn't, we are probably going home early.

I hope the staff know what they're doin cause we need him hitting shots

I don’t just count assists as a player being a great passer! He feeds the post as good or better than anyone we have. That doesn’t always result in an assist, even if the post player scores. I also know that Cal is encouraging him to shoot when he is open! One thing I don’t do is pick a particular player out and blame a loss or losses on him! But to each his own. Back to Tyler the main thing about Tyler that I am disappointed in is his mid range game because I know it should be better than it has been! It will come around and the haters will disappear when it does!

-He seems like he is adjusting his hands as he shoots sometimes
-Teams are still respecting him as a shooter
-He and PJW are keys to the team taking another step

really...missing open shots is Cal's fault?
obviously, your are agenda driven.

Herro missing open shots is not Cal’s fault. The type of shots Herro is getting is a by product of Cal’s offense and they are not all wide open looks. I don’t recall seeing many/if any plays designed for Herro to get a shot. We don’t run offensive sets, we run freelance create your own shot basketball for the majority of the game. Anyone can sit on the bench and run the same.

Out of curiosity, why do you use so many exclamation marks in all your posts? You're like the Elaine Benes of Rupp Rafters.

And, sorry, but this whole "Herro's great passer" narrative is just another example of how his fanboys here exaggerate when he does well. He made a few nice passes against cupcakes early in the season, so y'all decided you'd start calling him that. Never mind the fact that he usually does NOT play like that, and that the objective evidence indicates that there is NOT anything special about his passing this season.

He does not have a good assist average for a starting guard getting his minutes, nor a very good A/TO ratio. And, frankly, he's also not been as willing of a passer as he should be, as there's been quite a few occasions this season when he's forked up bad shots in situations where he should've been looking to pass.

But, hey, he had a couple nice entry passes earlier this season, therefore he must be the world's greatest post-feeder. LOL.

I think Herro's shots have been about as wide open as a shooter is going to get in college basketball. There is nothing more Calipari needs to do "to get Herro shots." Herro is getting good shots, and he simply needs to make more of those shots - and he will as he matures.

As usual, I'll say Herro will be fine or better than fine when he gets square on that jumper.

I will also add that Johnson needs more shots and he and Herro probably need to flip attempts but some of that is Keldon needs to demand them and coach needs to expect that of him.

Yeah the percentages tell the story. A lot of people here are having a tough time coming to grips with it, though.

Doesn’t mean he won’t imrpove. But right now, he’s a subpar shooter.

Our fan's once again overreact to every little thing. Since the 3rd game of the season Herro is shooting 41% from 3 point with a 28-68. So the notion he is shooting bad is extremely overblown. He's also shooting 47% from all 2 point shots while shooting 87% from free throw line. The kid is having one of the best years shooting wise we've had under Calipari while showing the ability to score at all levels. His hustle and rebounding has been a very big help to this team.

Herro is a good shooter who has adjusted to the speed of the college game recently. He’s a true freshman so it’s not that surprising to see him struggle at the beginning. With more experience, his confidence has grown. Good to see.

And as we saw yesterday, he’s a great athlete as well - his creativity at the rim yesterday was impressive.

Herro isn’t shooting that great however cal doesn’t do much with the offense in setting Herro up for quality shots either. Not a hating comment at all, just reality.

Yeah, he really sucks. Another 20 against Auburn. Without his shooting, we lose. And by the way, you’re an idiot for not recognizing he’s a shooter, and a good one..

Speaking of idiot can you please point out to me where I said Herro wasn’t a good shooter? I simply stated he wasn’t shooting that great which isn’t the same thing. Reading comprehension is a mother though so i’ll Give you a pass.

About a year ago.....He already looks like a different kid from this pic.
Wonder if his shooting and game will ever get any better over time?

It appears that he is still at the point of having to think about the change......once he does enough repetitions, then he will shoot without thinking of it....his shooting percentages will rise......the kid is a baller.........
