Tyler Herro is not a good shooter

Herro is shooting 57% inside the line and one 3pointer away from being33% from deep. When he gets to 33% it will be equivalent of 50% from floor. Not what he wants I'm sure but not as bad as some on here make it out to be

He's statistically speaking a shade better than Hami...

With 4.2 and full court to go you dont exactly get to choose who shoots . Tyler happened to move and get open .. Hagans gave to him with a tick to go .. he was forced to take that shot

I think he had a time to advance another step to the basket and give himself a tad better look and better physical momentum but other than that I think he took a decent shot and it didn't fall.

He probably doesn't have to take that shot if the team play with better effort on D or if all our bigs didn't decide to be jump shooters but it was a fair to good shot.

he was...the coaching staff for whatever reason decided to tweak his shooting motion...

They have done anything to him that every coach doesn't teach every player and it hasn't done anything but help the rest. He's not shooting real good right now because he's a freshman and he's never going to be a Jamal Murray, or Monk. We are spoiled by super talented players in the past and have the same expectations for everyone. Herro is going to take time to get it together and he'll get better which each game.

I heard Calipari himself say they were working on his shot so his release will be quicker...don't tell me that hasn't screwed it up until it he gets use to it "which could be 2 years from now"...why screw with it when it is works? makes no sense

Devin Booker shot 19/64 in his final 18 games at Kentucky. Is he a bad shooter? I'm sure there were a lot of people calling his first half of that season dumb luck.

The mechanics are there with Herro. It has only been 13 games. Those of you saying he can't shoot, or "he's the worst shooter on the team," are morons.

Herro is just getting started. Yesterday was just a horrible shooting day for everyone. Ive never seen so many 6-8 footer bricks...but every team will have a cold game like that and its not suprising that it came after two emotional big wins...i actually feel we played pretty well as far as running the offense and getting looks. Rebounding was the main issue. Thats just bama wanting it more.

His weakness has always been scoring against length. Having a quicker release helps with that.

When exactly did it work? Speeding up his shot is exactly what he needs and they do that for all shooters. You're gong to me that all the suddenly teaching fundamentals is a bad thing? This isn't high school anymore and his biggest issue is how long it takes to get his shot off.

you do it during the summer...NOT during the season when your JOB is to win games

No. Just not. Put the crack pipe down. Herro is not the best player on the team. Please stop.
I didn’t say he was the best player! I said he was the best passer! He didn’t have a great game but neither did anyone else. And I have never smoked anything but meat in my entire 69 years on this earth!

I don’t seem to remember him getting many of them blocked! And back to the game we have been losing games on the road in conference for many years. It’s no time to panic!

Cast my vote in with the clod crowd on herro. Don’t get me wrong, I really like him, but I have zero confidence anytime he shoots. That will change eventually but not yet. It’s kind of like Jon hood syndrome but hopefully they have found a cure for this disease by now.

Herro isn’t shooting that great however cal doesn’t do much with the offense in setting Herro up for quality shots either. Not a hating comment at all, just reality.
Wow. So now Cal is creating poor shooting.

I think the debate is out on whether or not he is a good shooter. But even right now he isn't bad. He's making 56% of his 2s. Yeah 33% from 3 is prob not where he wants to be...........but it's not awful either. Couple that with 83% on the line and nah......he's not bad.

I think it's just perception. We all expected him to be the guy that's the sharpshooter on the team......a Lamb, a Booker and he hasn't been yet.

You’d think people would learn from posting these stupid threads, but I guess not. This will be up there with the ones 2-3 years ago on Murray and Monk.

100% agree!! It’s amazing how offensive these players are when they go to next level

13 games is enough of a sample.
Yes, let's give up on a guy 13 games into his Freshman year. That makes a lot of sense. He's shooting 45% overall, 33% from 3, which is an effective FG% of 49%, and he's shooting 83% from the line. Those numbers will slowly improve over the course of the season. He is a fine all around player.

lol lets be honest and call it what it is.

Hero missed the game winner at the end......that's the only reason the OP felt the need to start this thread.

Well Booker, wasn’t Booker every game... he had a few stinkers

This is same season every season. Some player is labeled a bust, black hole, selfish, lazy etc.
We have the worst fans

Wonder if any of our guys are putting in work outside of team practices?

Cal's players and teams that played at a higher level had guys coming in early and staying late to get more shots up and work on their games independent from the limited team practices.

Haven't heard any such thing with this years' team. If you don't put the extra work in on your own you don't get better, at anything.

Herro is 9 of 20 from three in his last three games v UNC, U of L and Bama all away from Rupp but hey let’s avoid the facts.

:flush:

So the OP decides to take a small sample to try and prove a point and u decide taking a smaller sample is a good response? lol

He's a freshman, he's been working on it since he got here and will be from now on.
that is not what Calipari said...after a handful of games had been played this season he said we just began adjusting Tylers shot so he has a quicker release..I know what heard and you don't do that after the season starts..a great way to crush a kids confidence, several games into the season hey your shot sucks lets completely change it...
