Tyler Herro is not a good shooter

Yep. Kid is not a good shooter alright.
Lots of basketball Bennie's on this board. Notice he's playing with better timing and rhythm on his shots. Coulda seen it a mile away but nah, kid is just a bad shooter.

/Dense

Herro is shooting 57% inside the line and one 3pointer away from being33% from deep. When he gets to 33% it will be equivalent of 50% from floor. Not what he wants I'm sure but not as bad as some on here make it out to be

He sucks. Let’s shoot his ass. Whoever started this post is an idiot who knows nothing about basketball..

I guess a kid has to go out there and shoot like klay thompson every night to be considered a good shooter.. to say herro isn’t a good shooter is crazy..he takes good shots.. just as important imo..

even when he was streaking a lot of us weren’t worried about the shots falling. you just knew they would.

It's funny cause at one point before the season started almost everybody was saying he might be the 7th guy off the bench. Cal must have known something we didn't.[winking]

1) I take full credit for Herro starting to bust out of his slump. If I didn’t start this thread, he’s still shooting 30% from 3pt range.

2) I hope this thread never dies.

That is all, carry on...
No shame in your game.......

After last night’s 3/3, he’s up to .356. Jamal Murray did the same thing. Started the season under 30%, went on a year, ended it at about 49%. They just gotta adjust to college and learn what shots to take.

I left my shame at the door 15 years ago when I joined this site.

I’ve always enjoyed eating crow because it means our team is doing good things I didn’t expect them to. Nick Richards is due to make me eat my words sooner then later as well.

Not only is he great on offense, his much improved defense is making him one of the best players in the country..

Herro is this year's Aaron Harrison. I fee like he is going to hit one of those dagger 3's in the NCAA tournament like Harrison did in 2014.

I still think about the two guys arguing with me about him being a starter. They were dead set against it. I won’t call them out but you two feel free to come fess up.

Agreed. Johnson's got that feel to him as well. Herro was great all day, but Johnson really struggled on the drive (how many times did he get his shot blocked, ouch!). It was great to see him hit some big corner threes despite those early struggles.

13 games is enough of a sample.
Quit smoking and posting, making medicinal users look stereotypical...spent 20 yrs of my life trying to change the stygma..stop or change your name.
About a year ago.....He already looks like a different kid from this pic.
Wonder if his shooting and game will ever get any better over time?

Holy Cripes is that Herro or his little 12 yo brother? Shows what some good old southern cooking can do for you. Love this!!!

How many fouls would of been called elsewhere?

Herro missing open shots is not Cal’s fault. The type of shots Herro is getting is a by product of Cal’s offense and they are not all wide open looks. I don’t recall seeing many/if any plays designed for Herro to get a shot. We don’t run offensive sets, we run freelance create your own shot basketball for the majority of the game. Anyone can sit on the bench and run the same.
It's almost like you don't watch basketball other than UK games, don't understand the way offense works in 2019, and have in your head some impression formed in 1987 about what "offensive sets" looks like.

One (another) unfortunate aspect of the whole one and done mess is people just naturally make conclusions about kids waaaayyyyyyyy prematurely. In the good old days, like a decade ago and for the preceding 50 years, no one would ever make a conclusion about a freshman's game 13 games into his career. You wouldn't even make a conclusion about a kid after his freshman year was over, other than to note general characteristics (that kid looks like he could be a good shooter once he gets some experience, etc.). Now, boom, it's December of freshman year and the book is written.......

A couple of those could've been called, a couple were foolish drives into the teeth of the defense. Either way, my point is that Johnson overcame adversity to hit some big threes in the second half.

I think it's very telling during the post game press conference when Johnson said that they didn't want to lose...
The GOAT stated his drive to win wasnt to win, but he hated losing much more than lovin to win. That's a Dawg! KJ once again shows the Dawg in him with his comments. Love that during the game he has a short memory and can perform despite going 0-7.

Everyone should have known Herro could shoot just based on form, I thought this was always a non-argument.

Like others have noted, he needed to catch up to game speed and conditioning at the college level. When you have to work harder every play for your shot, your legs get weak.

Secondly, shot selection is different in College than High School. As a shooter, you have to re-learn your advantageous moments and revamp what you consider a quality look.

Probably jumped the gun on this assessment

Obviously you don't understand what is going on on the court. We are running sets 90% of the tjme. You are ball watching. I suggest you dvr a game and watch only one player throughout. Go to Wikipedia and lookup "how to play basketball" or buy the book the abc of basketball. The troube with message boards is any idiot can post complete lies...pick another sport like bowling

Let’s hear your coaching credentials? I understand the game quite well thank you, been around it my whole life and have been a paid basketball coach so screw yourself and your pompous attitude. Herro went 10 minutes of game action yesterday without getting a shot. Sorry that’s coaching or lack thereof. Perhaps you should try something different other than message board bullying, your not very good at it.

Pompous no just a realists, to make statements as ludicrous as no offensive sets being run is simply wrong. Watch the tape as I suggest, you will see what we run. Watch the movement of our players , see how pj and KJ are set when Tyler is running baseline from corner to corner.if you are gonna post at least post something worthy of reading vs some utter lie.
The creditentials I have is I learned plays by playing nba live, ncaa basketball easports..
For over 15 yrs now. Also played in intramural but we only had one offensive set.
