Top 8 UK champions

People don't know jack about who the 2012 team could have beat or not. They went 38-2 and won the most games in college basketball history and as others have pointed out, their record against tourney teams was outstanding. I don't have any issue with someone ranking 78 2nd ahead of them but some of the comments in this thread are idiotic in nature.

Exactly. According to some comments on here, 2012 UK couldn't beat teams from the 70s or 80s. Which is complete BS. This thread is a lot like a movie/sequel thread/discussion where on those rare occassions a sequel or sequels are just as good and probably better than the original but fanboys of the original just can't accept it even when facts are right in their face. To suggest that 2012 UK couldn't beat the 78 UK team is ridiculous, to suggest 2012 UK couldn't beat teams from the 70s and 80s is just as ridiculous. Like I said..it's all about holding on to that "First ones/originals are better and NO WAY can a sequel be better !!"..which is complete BS but that's what is going on in this thread.

Sorry, but it's not BS and I'd be willing to bet that you never saw any of these teams play. If you did, please tell us how the 2012 team would stack up with 1983 Houston, 1984 and 1985 Georgetown and the '84 Cats. And since you know so much why don't you go on First Take or PTI and join the discussions about college basketball? And what "facts" are you referring to? Your assumptions are what's really ridiculous and tells us that you don't know much about college basketball.

I've been commenting FACTS about the 2012 UK team. Are you even reading ? It is a fact that 2012 UK beat a team with 6 players that went to the NBA following the season, it is a fact that 2012 UK was 9-0 vs. the Elite 8 teams and 4-0 vs. Final 4 teams that season. It is a fact that UK was 10-0 vs. ranked teams that season. It is a fact that UK won 24 straight that season. It is a fact that 2012 UK was 16-2 vs. NCAA Tournament teams that season. It is a fact that 2012 UK is the ONLY team to win 38 games AND the National Title in the same year.

The matchups you speak of ? I'll do it not that it really matters much because there ain't no damn team from the 70s or 80s that could match the speed, freakish athleticism, quickness, defense, awareness, etc etc of the 2012 UK team. But here it goes. Givens isn't going off on and probably be lucky as hell to even hit his average with MKG smothering him/shadowing him. If he somehow got away from MKG and tried to get to the rim..Anthony Davis swats his shot but more importantly keeps it in play for his team (That's one of the many "smaller" or "not very noticeable" things Davis was amazing at.)..and IF Davis didn't get it, Terrence Jones or Darius Miller would.
The defensive chemistry of the 2012 team even tops 2015 UK's. Darius Miller and/or MKG is an absolute nightmare of a match up for 6'5 James Lee. Kyle Macy and Marquis Teague is really the ONLY match up I give the 78 team the advantage but not too much would come easy for Macy especially if Lamb and Teague are switching out guarding him..Teague really improved throughout the season especially his defense, free throw shooting, and jump shooting..in that order. And Lamb will get his looks from three and both he and Teague could drive on Macy. If Macy starts going off. The extremely versatile MKG makes things extremely uncomfortable for him for a while. Anthony Davis and Terrence Jones vs. Phillips and Robey ? Again..disadvantage for the 78 Cats.

Bennett, "Sky" Walker, Turpin and Bowie and the 84 UK team present a much tougher matchup for the 2012 UK team. But what I saw from each in their biggest games of the seasons ? 2012 UK throttling Kansas in the Title game until Coach Calipari called off the dogs. 84 UK scored what, 10 or 11 points in the 2nd half of their FINAL 4 game vs. Georgetown on their way to a double digit loss ? And also was 29-5 for the year. Head to Head ? I'm taking the 2012 Cats..sorry. As for Georgetown ? Patrick Ewing's big goofy ass ain't having his way or even close to it vs. Davis. That's all I'll say about that. And Houston ? Lmao..the team that choked in the Finals vs. NC State and Georgetown you mean ? Haha..yup.

2012
1996
1998

I only seen those 3 so I can't comment on the rest.

I was 7 years old during the 1978 tournament. I wasn't watching basketball back then.
My point exactly. As I said, I can't say the '76 Reds were the best team ever in baseball because I didn't see the '27 Yankees play. Same thing.
