Yes and no. Yes the player is responsible for their performance and yes the coach is ultimately responsible for the overall play of the team; it is their job. No, in that until a kid realizes you have something to offer, playing time, wisdom...the list goes on, they're going to do damn well what they please. You can make them wish they'd made another choice but in the end the choice is theirs and at that age the choices aren't always the best one's. If nothing else Cal can be faulted, I wouldn't go there, for choosing the wrong players. In that regard I think he has done a pretty good job. There are kids, Chris Walker comes to mind, that are ranked highly but don't get much of a look from UK.I get that you can't force the kids to do anything, that's why it's the kids fault as well. But it is the job of all of the coaches to get through to them. So, they share the responsibility for the team's performance.
