At the time this thread was started, UK didn't have a collective. I've never been one that blamed Barnhart for all of it as I always knew it was more than him. A collective can't be started by the university. At the time of this thread even Stoops was begging for help with NIL. There has been a complete change in the situation between then and now. Brady James, who is a major booster, came on here and said a few weeks ago that the 15 collective had 700 members at the time and needed to be at 15k, well it's at least the goal. To say the NIL situation hasn't made a major turnaround would be crazy. I will add that what many couldn't see was Keith didn't leave over NIL. He seen what UT was doing compared to what UK was. A lot can't fathom that could be a possibility

UK has several collectives and had them at the time of this thread. Just because the KSR sheep frauds make that claim doesn’t mean it’s true. The 15 collective only worked with businesses at the time but it was around too. These guys have been lying about NIL because Matt Jones has beef with JMI for not allowing him to use the UK logo for promotions at KSR Bar. These KSR sheep have been lying about the program not supporting NIL for Matt Jones.

Not a good idea to criticize your boss, although I do think Stoops did before changes were made. Only then did recruiting take a big jump.
Yes they had collectives but not one anyone could donate to. They only took contributions from businesses. I am not a ksr or MJ fan. I only see MJs stuff that others share on here. Even though I don't care to listen to him he has mire Intel then we do. It's not only MJ that has a beef with JMI. They're the problem. The CI guys Rowland Drummond and Graf will tell you it's a problem. Brady James wanted to make trading cards for the players that would help fund their NIL. The University reps said to contact JMI and told him who to call. JMI asked him 125k to print the cards with the players in unis or the UK logo on them. He was trying to help with NIL and paying them would have cost more than the cards would have made. The JMI deal is not good for UK esp related to NIL.
I will add I'm not blasting mitch for that. It prob wasn't smart to begin with, but we didn't know that congress would pass the bill they did or who it would have effected NIL. UGA cut a deal with JMI but they didn't give them exclusive right to their logos like UK did. I'm good with KSR not using the logo, but our players not being able to sell autographed photos in unis is crazy

JMI asked him to pay the market rate for use of university logos and markings like every other school in the country. That is the universities name image and likeness. Every other school in the country is able to NIL without team logos but it’s an issue here to forward Matt Jones agenda.
I laugh when people who give nothing to the university say a $210 million deal is bad for the university. We have numerous facilities that were built from that deal. No facilities were built from KSR whose agenda yall are forwarding and who only takes from UK.

He didn’t want players to get paid. He said as much. He complained about how it would change the locker room dynamic as if that ever mattered.

They could have did a better job in structuring their contract. Most likely would have been for less though

Well the Lexington NIL club takes money directly from fans. You can go there right now and donate as you have been able to since 2021 when they started.

2022 class the only significant program that widely used NIL was Texas A&M. 2023 it is employed nationwide. By programs that care to try.

UK basketball has a lot of support, some of the best facilities and the best fan base. Plus Cal's record of putting top prospects in the NBA is unmatched, and NIL can't come close to the money a decent NBA contract is worth. Yeah, he had one of the most mediocre 2000+ yards rushing seasons any of us have seen. He didn’t even make it to 30 TDs. Makes a ton of sense for an AD to gather data and market the process beginning day one. I totally understand there had to be some haggling within the UK legislature, but certainly we can do 2 things at once. The leaders in NIL from last year certainly did it.
We had the greatest recruiting class in UK history while being behind in NIL and not leading last year. We’re killing it again this year when you take into account the transfer portal despite the made up narrative
The AD and coaches spoke to the legislature. Past that, it's not his job to market something that's not supposed to be directed by the school itself. Considering how much a portion of our fanbase slanders and hates our AD, I don't think him "marketing" it is the best idea.
I don't see us EVER just letting boosters run rampant like UT. That's not "FIXING this NIL crap" at all. If it is just a pay for play bidding war, we will likely lose 98% of those battles.
Losing a recruit over 50-100k has to be understood as an indicator that the recruit didn't want to be here for here. Do we want to outbid for players that don't want to be here? They will likely wind up transferring as soon as they've been developed, and that does what exactly for your program?

Thankfully Stoops and Marrow early in 22 recognized reality. and did what they could to get others to wake up to the new reality as well, to save our 23 class.

This is a very important point and I know for a fact that the coaching staff was worried big time early in the summer of 22. I know Vince and CMS publicly say the are one with the AD, but what else could they say. Early on they saw on the recruiting trail that there was an issue. There are other boosters who took action, created an NIL outlet, and a few of them are on here and have connections via family.
I don't hate Mitch. He is a friend of a friend. As far as I can tell he is a nice guy. But I can tell you for certain, early on, the coaching staff, those closest to the NIL process, were absolutely worried about us falling behind because of the lack of coordination in our NIL communication.
First they claim we were behind on NIL, now they claim only Texas A&M used NIL in the 2022 class. NIL was passed July 1st 2021, 6 months later in February 2022, while being behind and not leading (whatever that means), we signed our best class ever. So were we behind in the beginning as you guys claim or not? Which lie are we sticking with?
This year we have another fantastic class. When is all this getting left in the dust supposed to happen? They will make up any lie to forward their BS narrative.

Those were and are valid concerns (about us falling behind) because we don't have the money behind us (outside of the revenue needed to keep the athletic dept running) that some schools do. Unfortunately there is still not enough clarity from the ncaa on the issues.
I agree.... I am just telling you what the staff believed and when. I take their word before any public dog and pony show. Before then I can't tell ya anything because i didn't know anyone close to it.
Lost all the progress by signing the top QB Devin Leary, a much better and higher rated RB, one of the top RBs in the portal, two of the best offensive linemen, a former 5 star DT, and ready to play now CB.
