Tennessee Tech at Kentucky

Does coach mingione not do postgame interviews anymore? I’d like to hear his thoughts on his team and get injury reports

Sounds like a dislocated ankle for Curtis. Out for season and broken wrist for Hill, also out for season.

Do we have a full roster? Maybe give out a call to the student body. Did Gilmore play a field pisition? Gilmore on playing baseball at UK..

Gilmore plans to play baseball as well at Kentucky. He’s a left-handed pitcher and outfielder throughout his high school career. He plans to meet with Kentucky baseball’s coaching staff while he’s on campus.

“I’ve been wanting to (play two sports) my whole life,” Gilmore said. “I feel like it’ll be something different from all the other athletes."

I don’t believe they even released the signing class from November. Seems they got things locked down over there for some reason.

We should have a full roster. We made cuts to get under the maximum of 35.

Not sure about Gilmore. Don't know his injury status or if he was even good enough to play baseball at this level. He'd have to be very good to earn a spot over others.

I believe we have at least 3 outfielders injured. Chase Bryant is another.

Looked like a hit and run, and he slid into second and his ankle got messed up. Awful.
I was at the game and just now watched the replay on SEC+. I'm no doctor but the ankle looks dislocated. Foot pointing in the wrong direction. He had some very loud groans. TTU players saw the injury and all walked far away. Hill and Curtis are big losses but will create big opportunities for some of the others. Best wishes to Cam and Elliott on their recoveries.

Just curious about Gilmore and he must not be good enough or you'd think they would approach him if he can play OF.

I don't know how good he was in baseball. There is a MaxPrep stat sheet from when he was a senior in HS that states that he hit .154 through 5 games with 13 at bats. That is a small sample size and it might not even be correct, but if it is, then it might answer the question.

Also, if Gilmore joined the team then I think that they would have to cut someone. They can only have 35 (IIRC) on the roster and even fewer can travel in the SEC. So, I think they will simply have to make due. They will not want to cut someone to get a player that they really have little to no knowledge about and who hasn't played in over a year nor practiced with the team. Doing something like that could ruin a locker room.

Shelby should bounce back pretty quickly. Rhodes is probably better in the OF anyway. Then you find a right fielder... that can be Harmon, but ideally Anu figures out that if he wants to play at the next level he has to develop some sort of defensive ability.

Ohh, and for the record... it is actually 4 potential outfielders that are now injured. Bryan (apologies for the incorrect 't' I was adding), Curtis, Hill, and Justin Olson.

I was wondering about Olsen. Figured he was injured since he didn’t even get in during the Saturday blowout.

Ok...didn't know he would count against anything if he walked on.

Yep. I think that it is an arm or shoulder injury from sometime in the early fall or late summer. Can't exactly remember, but that is what is rattling around in my head.

Yea, it would count against the roster total. He might not have a scholly, so that wouldn't count against those numbers, but UK would still have to keep it under the 35 (IIRC).

I am not sure if it is entirely common, but this staff and I believe the staff at Louisville often take a bunch of players and then have to cut 7-10 (maybe more) of them in the fall and just before the season. That is why we saw Marshall get cut in December, and why you kind of see some players like Orlando Adams disappear off of rosters.

Your impression of Estep so far? Small sample , but the young seems to have a lot of confidence at plate so far and should be earning himself more PT.

Like you said, the sample size is fairly small, but the swing he put on that home run yesterday was one of the better pure swings I have seen from a UK baseball player this year. Was just beautiful. Starting from there is a very good place, and should only project him to get better and better. Glad he is getting more playing time.
