Storming the court

I’d be furious if I was Schyer. Storming the court or field is so dangerous for everyone. I don’t know how you penalize the home team enough such that the fans would take notice and stop doing it. Maybe the conference or the NCAA forfeit the win? Fines certainly aren’t doing much good.

You have to get the players off the court, which I know isn't easy, but that's the goal here.

Take their phones away, they won't go on court. Forgot which game it was recently but literally everyone had their phone up when they were storming the court.

Watch this be the end of it now that it finally hit Duke in a bad way. Media is already condemning WF’s administration for this. Smfh.

Watch the media sit back and tsk tsk now, after ESPN and others have made bank highlighting these court stormings every week. As someone else said here, when it happens to a Dukie, shit gets real.
Already happened. Greenberg blasted Wake’s administration for the storming.

How about banning the whole student section from future games if they storm the court? Bet that would put a stop to it. Plus the home team loses a big part of their home court advantage the rest of the season.

All the “kentucky fans”. in here sticking up for a flipping flopping dookie where were you in Bloomington in 2012 when our guys were bum rushed shoved and spit on? I was there. Two wrongs never make a right but why are we sticking up for fakers when fakers get the same treatment now? Where was the outrage then? Why now just because it was duke and a dude in all fairness initiated the interaction . I mean 2012 was 12 years ago. Are we duke or Kentucky fans?

was actually in the calendar year Dedember 11

I thought from the title you were going to say a blue hair slipped in water and fell into the floor and they call it court storming

There was plenty of outrage then. We don't play them now because of it.

Duke player is pissy he lost and the fans stormed the court and pushes a player...

Gets injured..

Poetic ****ing justice. Such a shame.
I always thought it would take an injury to a name brand player/school for real change to happen. Fining the school lol, since it doesn’t come from the fans pockets think they care?

But at the same time, I certainly offer up Duke as tribute for this change to happen.

asshats on twitter saying players should be able to use violence to protect themselves on the court

another reason to hate Duke. A Georgetown player wouldn't get that backing

Eh. I’m ok with players being able to protect themselves to a degree.
if its merited - people getting in his face and pushing him

his forearm shiver just went out to a kid that, from what I can tell, wasn't even making eye contact with him, they just happen to brush by him running to the court

and FWIW, I've always been consistent in saying it was a BS move to cancel the series with Indiana for their court storming. I don't want any player getting hurt, but hold the school accountable, not the fans

I am never in favor of court storming. Strange how you jump to conclusion that if you don’t like storming Duke you hate UK. I admit I like when our football team storms the field. Should just make announcement prior to games starting game will be forfeited if court or field is stormed!!

The fans are the ones storming the court. They should absolutely be held accountable. I think college athletes that have worked so hard to be in the position to play in these games should be scared when fans storm the court and should be swinging all the way to the locker room.

yea, but the school is the one that allows it to happen

I do agree with the sentiment that Wake Forest should have anticipated that was a possibility with a win.

You can't hold fans accountable for a college tradition, you can hold schools accountable for creating an environment where its allowed

No way should you be encouraging players to use violence in a crowd situation. Because next time it happens, the fans and the players will be anticipating that to happen and will act accordingly.

So if a mob rushes towards you are you not going to defend yourself? Beavsue all it takes is for uobb in to get knocked down and you could easily be trampled to death.

The moron from Wake was clearly running toward Flopkowski and Flopkowski pushed him as the guy was trying to avoid Flopkowski. The moron is at fault. Don't be where you aren't supposed to be.

I think fans should be arrested for being on the court no different than if they run on the court during a game. When everyone storms the court they just overwhelm security.

if it was that easy it would have happened by now in hundreds of rushing the courts over the years

Programs used to have security ringing the court in the final minute of a big home win versus a rival. Sometimes they would even hold up a rope. You used to never hear of court stormings, possibly because students didn't want to get their butts kicked by security? Funny how that works, huh?
A $100K fine isn't going to stop a court storming. That money is chump change for Power 5 schools. ESPN likes it because it makes for great TV. The NCAA seems to have less power every day so, it's going to fall on the conferences to levy some heavy penalties to either bring it under control or stop it altogether.

If court-storming is ultimately banned I look for IU to just close down and disband.

Good grief man. We had several of our guys take hits in the IU court storming. I would say it’s luck it hasn’t happened.

Fans don’t storm in other sports much. And especially In football with dudes in the field because they have protections on. Basketball players are uniquely vulnerable.

I’m not against it but any means. But players need to have time to get off the court.

I've said it shouldn't happen but thinking a 6' 5" 210 pound player throwing hands with a 5'9" D&D playing college student is something they should do is just asking for trouble.

Storming the court is dangerous for all involved, whether it be announcers, camera crew, players, managers, and even the students doing the storming because people can easily get trampled. Should've been put down well before today's incident.

I'm actually surprised more wasn't done after Caitlin Clark got run into earlier in the season. This incident will definitely lead to more action.

The issue is it’s rarely one on one. It’s not like one vs 5-10. Dangerous for the players.

well technically by your criteria its 700 versus 15. But those 700 aren't attacking the player, they are just being part of a crowd. 90% of them have their phone in hand video taping the moment
