Stoops to A&M?

I had Thanksgiving dinner with a huge Texas A&M booster. Just before we said the blessing his phone rang and he took the call. It was Stoops and he told him he would take the job if he could keep Bobby P as his offensive coordinator. It's a done deal. Stoops to A&M. The Thanksgiving phone call continues to be our best source of info. 🙂
I was talking to my mailman and he said that Stoops already submitted a change of address form. He also said Lincoln Riley opened a post office box in Lexington

My Uber driver broke this news to KSR Wednesday night. Done deal

I could see Stoops making this move if the money was right and knowing that he's going to be further behind the proverbial 8-ball when SEC gets rid of divisions next year.

Don't see it as a big upgrade for A&M, though.

It would be like you've been trying to figure out how get rid of a girlfriend that you have gotten tired of, and one day she walks in and breaks it off with you. Glory hallelujah 🙌 🙏

It would be the most comically bad hire since Cincy paid UofL to take Satterfield off their hands... IT would 100% result in Ross Bjork losing his AD job at A&M .

Stoops has as much of a chance of getting that job as I do..... ZERO 🤦‍♂️

This seems like something a certain coaches camp would put out to show a fanbase that is currently upset with him that he has other offers and to show them that they should be grateful for him when in reality he never had a A&M offer and they were never really interested
LOL… not at you, but the mere thought of A&M remotely considering Stoops to be their HC.

It’s hard to comprehend how anyone would want Stoops to leave, or would think it would be looked at as a bad hire if A&M did offer him? Obviously you have no clue.

No clue if this is true or not but would make sense from a roll of the dice perspective for Stoops.

Highly doubt he coaches more than another 3 or so seasons.

This is about how much time he would have to win big at TAM. If not, he is canned and gets some ridiculous buyout.

The worse part of this scenario isn't Stoops leaving,It's Mitch being trusted to hire his replacement

Same way I feel about Cal situation. You may not feel this way, but I'd rather keep Cal and have his replacement named after they are both retired. Contract ends same year.

Most of us don't want him gone it's just were not worried if he does decide to leave. We play in in the SEC with good facilities and fan support. We would be attractive to alot of good coaches.

Just an opinion. Former UK player and coach. Getting ready to go 22-4 after today. I think it’s probably a no brainer in Mitch’s eyes.
Except there is another former UK player & coach, who is winning at a Power 5 job, not Sun Belt, who'd love to come home and away from one of the most difficult jobs in CFB

Neal Brown

UK is too damn tough a job for a guy like Sumrall to learn as he goes. 2 yrs in minor league football ain't enough to then jump to SEC.

A basically non-existent in state recruiting base and less NIL money than a lot of other schools around us to attract out of state. It's not that attractive.

We are willing to pay coaches a lot of money to come here, and give them probably unparalleled job security.

And the strategy of recruiting Big 10 country still exists in a post Stoops world. That's a blueprint we should honestly never stray away from.

Neal Brown is not the guy. He saved his job this year. He’s 29-29 at WVU after taking over a pretty decent program. He’s proven that he’s a mediocre P5 coach.

I don’t know if Sumrall will succeed here. I’m just telling you that he’s most likely the guy.

As for what is the type of coach you need. UK (and the rest of the SEC) has tried everything from an old coach past their prime to a coach coming from a power program to a coordinator to a coach from a G5 program. Some have succeeded and some haven’t. There is no magic formula.

Stoops can co have plenty left in the tank when it comes to building the program. He has built a program that is competitive across the SEC with few exceptions where only about 5-6 teams would be more competitive than us. Obviously this season didn’t pan out like we would all want but this group is very dedicated to building it the right way. Any change Is a risk to that continuity. I am all in for keeping him around. He deserves much more from the fan base than what he’s getting right now IMO.

Keep him but not paying him a penny more to do it. He's already extremely well compensated with no expectations other than making a bowl game.

He’s worth what the competition will pay him, and the interest in him isn’t coming from UK connections, its coming from Texas A&M. If Stoops plays this and wants more money I am sure it will not be for him, it will be for his assistants. Like it or not he’s sought after and what he’s making reflects what he’s worth. If you think Barnhart would give him more than he has to then you are insane.

I was saying this last week in another thread and was met with some…resistance lol.

Some posters here see CFB through their soda straw perspectives (like OSU fans who think Ryan Day sucks because he’s lost to Michigan twice). They see a guy go 6-6 and think he sucks, but others see a guy who wins more than others in a place that’s historically hard to win and since he’s overachieved at UK he’s a reliable bet for a bigger job.

I don’t think he’s a top choice but if the main candidate declines then I’d say he’s in the running.
They just paid 76 million to get rid of a guy with the same record as him basically. At least the same category of team. Why would they hire him we the could have kept a dude who at least won a Natty?

Sumrall’s a Good coach, but does anybody here actually believe he has the name or ability yo elevate recruiting to levels above what it is today to take the program to that next level?

They just paid over $150 million to get rid of the football staff. I’m honestly not sure they want to sink that kind of money in again or if they will get the interest they think they will. A Stoops type coach might be the level they get believe it or not. I also think Stoops is looked at differently outside of the program than he is by many in the program.

Honestly…I don’t think there is anyone we can get that would be a household name. I do think he has the ability. He was known as a really good recruiter while at UK.

If he were to leave he’d be fired within the first few seasons. The expectations are higher there. Enough of the UK fan base is just content to make a bowl game that he’ll be here as long as he wants.

If an actual big program really pushed the chips in, he wouldn’t still be here. Get real. This is all just bs from his camp.

He’s reached his ceiling. He’s slightly better Brooks. The question is are you happy with that?

This. 100% disagree with the other poster.

And eventually if you a guy top 5 to 7 nationally (another raise gets him there) at what point does never winning anything that matters come into play?
