Stoops to A&M?

I was saying this last week in another thread and was met with some…resistance lol.

Some posters here see CFB through their soda straw perspectives (like OSU fans who think Ryan Day sucks because he’s lost to Michigan twice). They see a guy go 6-6 and think he sucks, but others see a guy who wins more than others in a place that’s historically hard to win and since he’s overachieved at UK he’s a reliable bet for a bigger job.

I don’t think he’s a top choice but if the main candidate declines then I’d say he’s in the running.

It would defy any A&M logic to complain about fisher and style of play and all of that for these years and then pop up and overpay his dc from fsu that plays it that way too. But these ad’s do some crazy stuff. But he gets a mention every year and maybe he can get A&M to pay him. But he also knows he’s kind of out of narratives here and has to perform the next year or two. He might be looking at the roster he’s built and thinking ‘I need to find something’. Long lasting coaches stay just ahead of the posse. Just hard for me to see them falling for the Jimbo fisher bait twice.

I agree with this. The naysayers on this board don't appreciate him enough. Normal, sane Kentucky fans do The national press love Stoops. He should be coaching at a better program. I just don't think AM. Duke coach has one season that's an average season for Stoops and is a hotter candidate. It's a weird industry.

Under that logic , Elko and Drinkwitz are much more attractive candidates ..especially Drinkwitz , I don’t think he’s that good ..but identical situation to Stoops and he’s in a NY6 this yr. Elko the same logic , plus A&M and Texas recruiting ties

Agree. This is Drink’s first good season at Mizzou. Fans wanted to run him off the last two seasons. He was on the hot seat all offseason. He get to 8-9 wins again next season he’ll have suitors.

Elko has been reported to be on the short list too.

I bet they get Sumrall for $5.5 mil/year for at least his first contract. Then plow the difference into a larger assistant salary pool. There would be so much money sloshing around user error is less a thing. The issue will continue to be NIL arms race and developing players relative to other SECE programs.

This seems like something a certain coaches camp would put out to show a fanbase that is currently upset with him that he has other offers and to show them that they should be grateful for him when in reality he never had a A&M offer and they were never really interested

Hopefully Barnhart ponies up and makes Stoops the highest paid coach in CFB, lord knows he deserves it!!!

They’re 6-6 dude. We definitely need changes but know who you are. A&M thinks they’re something they’re not and they’re about to end up with a Coach that’s no better than the guy they just paid 76 mil to fire. Stoops is a good coach who needs to change coaches and adjust philosophy on defense. If he doesn’t then I’ll agree with you. However, I believe he will.
