With the results of this season, I don't think Iowa would offer Stoops. Especially with a massive buyout and having to pay Stoops about 9 mil/year. No other school would offer stoops that kind of money. We are stuck with Stoops. This new extension just cemented the deal. Mitch got punked by Sexton. I was on board until this season. Going forward I see no way for UK to compete for an SEC title.
Holy ****. Complete and total failure. Criminally bad mismanagement. This just sealed our fate for the next decade of finishing 3rd or worse in our own division.

Cat imagine he had any serious interest in either Auburn or Nebraska. Just free 2 mil a year raise thanks to Jimmy Sexton and the ever gullible Mitch.
On the flip side, I guess we now know why Mitch finally let go of some of his nil death grip. Just like the use of private plane, recruiting room, practice facility upgrades - the only way to get any football money out of Mitch is to threaten to leave.

I am not on the get rid of Stoops wagon, but an extension and raise this year just offers more evidence that Mitch negotiates from a position of fear/weakness
Also sets a precident that we'll pay as much as any school in the country, helps when we do need a new coach, hopefully a ways down the road.

Really questionable move. I’ve said before and still believe that it’s not reasonable to fire Stoops right now, but the results this year have pretty underwhelming, and there’s some legitimate reasons to be concerned that we may be on the cusp of a fairly noticeable step back as a program. It’s not like his current contract was set to expire this year, so it would have been a much better time to sit tight and make him prove something than to hand out a massive extension.
No raise comes out of thin air, but besides that Brett McMurphy said the raise was due to Nebraska trying to get Stoops. Presumably, if Panthers don’t pay some of Rhules salary.
No clue on next year. Last preseason people were predicting the SECE and were wrong. If I know anything it’s to fade the conventional wisdom of this board.

I've been, and still am, a Stoops supporter however this is ridiculous. I've even come to the conclusion that if he leaves, he leaves and will get replaced by someone competent. I'm shaking my head over this.
I love Stoops, but I won’t be shocked if we go anywhere from 5-7 to 7-5 next year. Absolutely horrible timing.

Dumbest move ever!! We are stuck with this guy who signs this extension right before he takes the program back to the gutter. And that’s where it’s headed.

Money is totally relevant to the results you get for the money spent. I like Stoops and appreciate what he’s done for the program, but for what he’s going to be getting paid, he’d better start getting Saban-like results in the W-L department.
Edit to add that I hope he’s going to get extra money to hire better assistants, including a ST coach.
This is what worries me. I had looked at next year's schedule before this season. With how it setup and who we losing I felt next year UK be lucky to win 7. Now with this dumpster of a season, possible portal losses and NIL and recruiting class falling apart UK now looking a possible 3/4 win season.
In 5 years the quote "never has so much been paid for less results" with this IMO.
6th highest coach should be making new years 6s and the 12 team playoff every other year imo. We shall see.
If my math is correct, that is a $68 million deal over 8 years. Wonder what the Buyout is?? Great defensive Coach IMO. However never has had his own identity on Offense. Hence will be looking at the Transfer Portal again, to run who's offense?? It sure as heck is not Stoop's offense. Outside observers look at this and say Hum?? Perhaps he should hire his retired brother Bob as a Consultant in some way? That might help, as his brother Bob put plenty of points on the Board. Just saying.

Beating Vandy and having an exciting offense that throws passes beyond the line of scrimmage goes farther with recruiting than throwing money at a coach that no other big program wanted.
