State of 2023 Recruiting

Yeah, I have a feeling Scangarello wants to do what Coen did. Have a good year then hopefully get a OC job in the NFL.
Ya me too. Which if that became the norm with this model, just isn’t sustainable in my opinion. Others disagree

Hopefully the promise Scan stays for 2 yes minimum is kept.

If this UK offense performs as i expect, and Levis shines, all across CFB young QBs will be making quiet inquiries about moving to Lexington in December. I fully expect we get a portal tfer QB from another P5 school, who was a 4 or 5 star HS recruit, who has some starting experience. That guy & Hogan battle it out spring 23.

OT (sorta) but has 24/7 been messing up for anybody else? I usually go through commitments/decommitments on there to see whats happening and its blank for me right now.

It’s been funky all day since they dropped their Top 100 for 2025 which by the way Lexington Christian Academy QB Cutter Boley checks in at #45 overall and #4 QB in the initial Top 100 of 2025.

A couple of guys were working hard to keep this focused on 2023 Kentucky football recruiting. I guess they gave up. This used to be an interesting thread.

Thoughts on where Pulliam and Gilbert will commit? Anyone?

Most is still recruiting. Pulliam is probably an auburn lean. Gilbert, it seems no one knows. It is between UK or Purdue

Dead period. Wait til season starts.
Season starts tomorrow. Rumor has it that Gilbert and Pulliam might commit somewhere in the next few weeks. I was hoping we might get Gadson before he chose Florida St. We still do not have a defensive lineman in the class. Gilbert could change that. If it is Kentucky vs. Purdue, we should win that one because Purdue already has 4 players similar to Gilbert in Carter, Clements, Carlson, and Heldt. Other than proximity, I do not see why Gilbert would still consider Purdue. Hope he does not want to major in engineering. LOL!

Nothing wrong with the UK school of engineering!

Joker tried to make a battering ram out of Morgan Newton. Joker had seen Cam Newton's success at Auburn, but Cam Newton had a better Oline than Morgan had. Morgan ran very upright. His throwing shoulder got hurt, and that was it for him. A shame.

Forgot that Morgan was a 5 star on at least 1 service. As far as the shoulder goes, you might be thinking of the other QB (4 star Ryan Mossakowski from Texas) that we signed that same year. Newton never got much playing time while Hartline was ahead of him for anyone to know anything about him.

1 of Joker's many mistakes was selling the kid on a pro-style offense similar to what Indy ran with Manning. Manning encouraged Newton to come here because of that also. But we didn't have the personnel to run that scheme in the SEC, and Joker wasn't able to tailor the offense to the personnel we DID have. He was extremely inflexible and wouldn't let the QBs improvise or call their own plays regardless of the outcome.

Case in point was the win over Auburn where the defense was keeping the score close, but Jokers offense wasn't working. Morgan who had taken over for the injured Hartline earlier in the season did get hurt in the game, but not permanently to my knowledge. Will Fidler came in a led the team to victory, but told me after the game that he would never get another snap at QB for UK because he (in cahoots with Randall Cobb) changed the plays during the game, and Joker was furious.

Jon Toth was a real good player for us. Toth is from Indy.

Yep. I knew there were others. Just couldn't quite remember.

Just from my views and what I have heard from the Purdue side. Has stated he loves our academics and he has tons of friends and teammates that go to and play for and are committed to Purdue.
Also not sure if I missed it but he has already made up his mind but is waiting on his video/ podcast announcement to be done.

Mossakowski injured his throwing shoulder before he ever got to Lexington. Newton injured his throwing shoulder while playing in Joker's offense for Kentucky. Newton started nine games for Kentucky including the 2009 Music City Bowl and the 2010 Birmingham Bowl. He was 5-4 as a starter, but lost both bowls.

And as far as D linemen…just remember committed doesn’t mean as much as it used to.
I’d guess there are things going on that even the top insiders on here don’t know about

I am not convinced true insiders post on the Wildcat Lair. We have some perceptive fans here for sure, but nobody is posting proprietary information from inside the football program. I know that because nobody here has established reliability as an accurate and dependable forecaster for the kind of outcomes that a true insider could forecast. Notably, only one or two have even hinted or implied that they have that kind of knowledge, even though it has been obvious that they do not. Seriously, how would they?

I too expect notable decommitments around the SEC and ACC in the fall. It is a safe assumption since they happen every year. I know these current Wildcats were formerly committed to other schools before signing with us.

Josaih Hayes (OM)
Sam Anaele (U Miami)
Trevon Wallace (BC)
Tyreese Fearbry (Penn St)
Ja'Kobi Albert (Auburn)

Yep. Google works.

But Joker didn't "use him as a battering ram" so much as Newton had no choice but to run plays that didn't work until he had to bail and run for his life. He wasn't going to improvise or audible. He was a kid that would run what the coaches called (even though he knew the game well enough to audible well), which is what cost him.

The supposedly are behind on NIL. The guy wanted to stay home, has a lot of friends there. NIL had nothing to do with it
They are catching up quick. They announced a player subscription thing and then OSU followed them with that idea. They have their collective up and a couple other things going. Purdue 6 months ago vs now is very very different.

Probably so. Just don't think it was the deciding factor here. UK by some has been way behind. FSU was trying to say they bought Anglin and Stuart. I honestly don't know what either offered Gilbert. It just seemed he liked the academics there, his friends are there, close to home, and they did just have a 1st Rd DE get drafted.
