State of 2021 recruiting

Today being the first day of the February signing period, we probably know the composition of UK's 2021 football class now. Eight of these players are already enrolled for the spring semester and will practice this spring.

Wilson Berry, P, ProKick Institute, Melbourne, AU (enrolled)
Jager Burton, OL, Lexington, KY (enrolled)
Dekel Crowdus, slotR, Lexington, KY
Jordan Dingle, TE, Bowling Green, KY
Jamarius Dinkins, DL, Columbus, OH
Maxwell Hairston, DB, West Bloomfield, MI (enrolled)
Adrian Huey, DB, Nashville, TN
Christian Lewis, WR, Pleasant Grove, AL
Jordan Lovett, DB, Ratcliff, KY (enrolled)
Chauncey Magwood, WR, Leesburg, GA (enrolled)
Paul Rodriguez, OL, Mason, OH
Devonte Ross, WR, Cartersville, GA
Kahlil Saunders, DL, Huntsville, AL
Kaiya Sheron, QB, Somerset, KY (enrolled)
Martez Thrower, LB, Rochelle, GSA
Trevin Wallace, LB, Jesup, GA
David Wohlabaugh, OL, Stow, OH (enrolled)
LaVell Wright, RB, Ratcliff, KY (enrolled)

During Mark Stoops' time in Lexington as UK's coach, both highly-recruited (Lynn Bowden, Darian Kinnard) and lightly-recruited (Josh Allen, Benny Snell, Chris Rodriguez, Bunchy Stallings, Logan Stenburg) players have received All American recognition. Most signees are on campus for 4-5 years, and many need several seasons before contributing significantly on the field. These are reasons why I hesitate to rush to judgment about recruiting classes. Recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow has been quoted as saying 2015 was his best class in terms of results. But at the time they signed, 2015 was widely considered to have been a weak class. This is why we need to wait and see how the new UK players actually develop in the program.

Having said that, I suspect Burton, Rodriguez, and Wohlabaugh may turn out to be a very good group of SEC offensive linemen. All three have excellent length. Rodriguez is a strong run blocker who can play RT or RG. Wohlabaugh comes from a football family and might be able to play LT. Burton is the #1 rated prospect in the state of KY and the highest rated prospect in UK's class according to several websites.

Other websites rate Wallace even higher than Burton. Since Wallace was a November decommitment from BC and a late addition to UK's class, he may not be as well known to some UK fans. Wallace is fast for his size and very athletic. He can play multiple positions but seems to be slotted as a LB for Coach White. Wallace received at least six SEC offers.

Inbound transfers-

Justice Dingle, LB, Bowling Green, KY (from GA Tech)
Luke Fulton, LB, Youngstown, OH (from MI St)
WanDale Robinson, RB/slotR, Frankfort, KY (from Univ. of NE)

Most likely, UK was Fulton's and Robinson's second choice when they decided to sign with other schools. Dingle is the big brother of UK signee Jordan Dingle. All three were heavily recruited prospects coming out of hs. We will see what happens in spring practice, but it is possible that all three transfers might start for UK next fall if they are approved by the NCAA for immediate eligibility.

Have you seen tape on Fulton ? I read that he plays like Kash Daniel. Do you think that’s accurate ?

We only had 3 HS Ohio signees this year. 4 overall after you add in Fulton but that has to be the lowest signees from Ohio we've had since Stoops and Marrow have been here?

Not sure all the numbers but we signed 3 in '19 and already lost one of them

Fulton has a bigger build and is more athletic. But Kash was a toughminded player with a good football mind. Kash played the inside gaps very tough.

Fulton has a lot of upside. Let's see how fast he learns. He hasn't played football in a full year, so he will have some rust.
