Hendrix released four studio albums and all four were Top 10 in the US and Electric Ladyland went to number 1. So your source saying that he “was not very popular” is idiotic. There was a big difference starting in the late 60s between album acts and singles acts.

That album had 3 or 4 big hits: although My Sharona has certainly outlived them all.

You must have forgotten the gem “Glamour Boys”. It’s amazing the same band sang those songs.
I watch YouTube and find random videos that interest me.
Saw one of Pink singing "Whats Up" (which was great by the way) and she introduced the song by saying she has been including it in her shows for more than ten years. Lady Gaga also has a version which is pretty cool.
Moral to the story is that at least some other well known artists think it is worthy of including in their live acts (which of course doesn't mean you have to like it)

That's a great point though. That was such a great time in music as so many were experimenting with different sounds, rather than staying pegged into a static style. It's pretty awesome to go back and listen to some of the groups from the late 80s into the mid90s that produced music for music's sake rather than style over substance for money.

Not to me, but it's a cool song. I tend to think of hits not just as hitting in the top 40 but for longevity, local popularity, and air play at the time.
That cover by The Hollies above was huge for over a decade where I lived and with the families we knew back then. A lot of military families. My dad, like a friend of mine's dad did as well, carried one of his siblings to school and home again daily when they were kids. Song means a lot to both of us and our families to this day.

Was a one hit wonder like that for me as a kid as well. Didn't hear another song of his I liked much, though he had a hugely popular one in the 80s I think.
Eric Carmen also had “Hungry Eyes” and “Make Me Lose Control”. Loved the latter.

The Hollie’s were not a one hit wonder. They had many hit songs in the UK. And were very well known as one of the British Invasion bands of the mid 60s here in the US. This was a top 10 hit in the US…

The keyboard player in this is Betsy Cook from Mayfield. She was a cutie. She is still alive but probably not as cute 46 years on.
