South Carolina at Kentucky

I started out watching this game online. I had moved to just listening. After Hudepohl's wild pitching I think I'll check back in after the game to find out what happened. That's better on my blood pressure.

Don't think you'll be missing too much.

Kessler and UK having a poor defensive night. USC had taken 9 bases in league play. Add 3 more tonight alone... unless they overturn this.

But it’s the SOS with the pitching. It’s amazing to me they have nobody on the staff that can throw strikes consistently. Pitiful

We have a world of problems. 10 walks. 10 strikeouts. 10 runs. Lol so weird

They don't believe that Hill does well against lefties. Right or wrong, that's what they believe.
Bottom line is our pitching has been below average at best all season. Way too many walks and hit batters. You can’t give a team all these free bases, especially when UK doesn’t score a ton of runs. I do think our defense has improved but that’s about it. Mingione is just not getting it done but neither did Madison and he was here for almost 20 years.

Just depressing this is year 5 with Ming and we’re still having the same issues that cost us in years 2-4. Just really hard imagining him doing anything here.
It’s hard to justify keeping Mingione but I’m sure Mitch will find a way.

You can’t compare what Madison did here to Mingione. Without Madison, UK doesn’t have a baseball program. He was not only the coach, but the grounds crew. He did most if not all of the fundraising. He had zero support from the athletic department while he was here.

So much on the line, and you lay a goose egg. I do find it interesting that D1 Baseball has Kentucky as one of the last 5 in. I’m sure that’ll change next week.

Most of that was before my time but I’ve heard that before. With Cliff Hagan as your AD I can believe it. I guess that might not have been a good example.

A lot of that is because we just aren’t as talented across the board, especially with pitching.

I've been keeping up but its just been exhausting to watch anymore. This team is loaded with talent and Mingione can't coach for %@W#. I hope Barney sends him packing if he doesn't win this series. We're already in the First Four Out and if we lose this series, no tournament for us.

In my work back in the day , l met Coach Madison many times. Super guy and you are correct...he was chief cook and bottle washer. Got zero help from bb only ad and boosters.

0-6 is coming.

It’s all good. I’ve met Madison a couple of times. Super awesome guy. Just dealt a really bad hand from the administration at Kentucky. But I think your overall point was correct. MItch is loyal to his coaches. Sometimes too much.

It is hard for me to get excited about UK baseball under Mingione - the pitching is so terrible that the games last forever and are unwatchable for me. Last night's game was 4 hours and 5 minutes, with 13 walks by UK. And were way behind the whole time. I could have watched paint dry or grass grow instead.

Pitching staff gives up too many walks and is constantly pitching behind in the count. Puts too much pressure on an already suspect offense. Major influx of talent needed, is Mingione up to the task?

Evaluating his whole body of work, I think the answer is no. My concern is if Mingione was let go could we get someone better?

I don’t understand the Roger Williams love. I know he’s arguably the best pitching coach in the nation, but he’s never been a head coach. It feels like it would be a little too much like the Gary Henderson experience all over again.

I would consider former UK assistant Brian Green who is still very well-respected in this community and is doing well at Washington State, Cliff Godwin at Wast Carolina and Todd Interdonato at Wofford.

Obviously, this is all speculation as it’s highly unlikely you’ll see MB move on from Mingione after this year. UK was picked to finish last, and barring an unbelievable collapse, will qualify for the SEC tournament and fight for an NCAA Regional berth.

You’d consider the Coach at Wofford who has a career losing record? Okay then..

One thing with baseball in the SEC is how razor thin the difference between hosting and out of the tournament is. If we won the last 5 and got to 16 wins then we would be solidly in and in many years we'd be a candidate to host. Only win 2 of those and we're not even in the tournament. You can see this with USC being a host candidate. If they win the UK and UT series and get to 16 wins then they may very well be hosting.
