Sarr officially in transfer portal

Just read where a Wake Forest writhed stated “It’s a valid concern about the spotlight at KY, he likes the small campus and small media environment at Wake”. That doesn’t sound like a like that’s ready to be in the fish bowl that is UK basketball. I hope I’m wrong.

This dude put up some pretty serious numbers late in the season. He is definitely a top transfer...maybe "THE" top. Now with that said, he has a few years of previous coaching habits. Previous coaching equates to strained learning curve. Wouldn't go "all in" on him, but I dang sure would make him my top priority for now!

Case in point...Kerry B. Dropped a bit this year...still solid. Very hard to quickly learn a new system.

This is just another example that there will be more players come into play as we head into the summer, we got to be patient, the staff is working all of these angles so I am very hopeful that we get a really decent big man.
I agree totally!! Cal and the staff know more than we do about what's going on with transfers, etc. I still have faith in Cal and our coaching staff.

You are wrong.

Matt Haarms recruitment 2.0
Better than Haarms for UK. Haarms wanted to play on the outside and shoot threes. BYU promised him he could play on the outside in order to get him. We needed a center to play near the basket and rebound. Cal would not promise Haarms that so he went to BYU. It worked out best for us and Haarms. Hopefully we get Sarrs which would be a much better fit for UK.

I really hope Cal & his staff make him a top priority and can land him. He could be the missing piece that makes next season's team a contender.

Yes, you are definitely wrong.

Most here slam UNC, Auburn, Duke, Kansas and others because it’s thought they cheat.

I don’t want to wallow in the gutter with them. We are better than that.

Which of the teams that you mentioned have yet to be shown to be cheaters by overwhelming evidence?

Id imagine if your coach leaves you should get an immediate pass... but this is the NCAA we’re talking about so even the most logical decisions go out the window
Yep, when the coach who signed a player is fired, the player almost always gets immediate transfer and play eligibility.

Exactly. He SHOULD want to come here. He'd be a god on campus as basically our only big. He'd get massive cheers in games.
Yep, he would be treated like a celebrity on campus and by fans. If he wants to build his brand and make the best decision for his career, including further development and honest evaluation, UK is the place. The track record proves it.

Man if this guy makes the league a year later what's he gonna do? LOL, I never understood this the guy doesn't like the spotlight, but he wants to win and play pro ball.

It seems like when a guy has one year left he might want to get used to it and there is no better place than UK for that. Dam, I mean be a man and challenge yourself and try to make your dreams come true big guy. It's sad, but if he really is scared of the spotlight he probably doesn't belong here, even with as badly as we need him.

Just like the superstar players that get homesick but want to play in the NBA

Man all this team really needs for a final 4 run is a big (probably 2 tbh so we can have a decent one off of the bench). This dude sounds like a beast and could be a great get.

Get him and Makur or Anselem and that's a pretty dang good team.

Maker won’t come here and be a reserve. Anselem is no better than Jackson, actually not nearly as good based on rankings.

If we get Sarr, then Jackson comes off the bench for him. Probably a 30/10 split in minutes at the 5.

Yeah this guy won’t end up in Lexington. Doesn’t sound like he’s cut out for our program

Just get Sarr and call it a day

Mintz / Askew
Clarke / Allen
Boston / Fletcher
Brooks / Jackson/ Ware
Sarr / another transfer or reclass

That's definitely a championship caliber team.

Why are you assuming that Sarr will be eligible?

Why do you assume he wouldn't?

I don't "assume" he wouldn't.

But there is a good chance he wouldn't. He's not a grad transfer, so under the rules he's ineligible and will have to sit out a year unless he can get a special waiver. And I've yet to see anyone present grounds that convince me his waiver application will be granted.

I don't know if he'll get a waiver or not, but I'm shaking my head at the number of people here acting like it's a foregone conclusion he'll get it, when that's actually a giant question mark.

What were the numbers the last few years on guys who transferred after a coaching change being allowed/denied the waiver?

There is a lot of precedence supporting the idea of him being eligible. His coach was fired, and there have been a lot of players granted waivers because their coach was fired or moved on.

Can you cite some examples of that "lot of precedence"?

I think you might be right.

I think I was confusing it with the rule about Freshmen being able to transfer and immediately play if their coach leaves before they actually started classes.

I stand corrected.

Yeah, this is how I recall it too.

There IS an accepted practice where HS recruits who've committed are released from their letter of intent if the coach who recruited them is fired.

But I've NOT noticed that being the same case for transfers looking for a waiver. From what I've seen, those kids tend to be shit out of luck, a coaching change ain't enough unless they can also show legit special family or other hardship circumstances to justify the waiver.

That's why I don't get why folks on this thread are acting like it's a sure thing ...but, of course, with how arbitrarily the NCAA decides these things, they may change that standard entirely by next week.
