I don't know....i kinda like it. Rivals are supposed to hate each other. Basketball has become way too watered down on that front. The players all know each other and laugh and hug after the games nowadays. Rick is from the old school where rivals almost came to blows on the court. He hates us and we hate him. That's what UK/UL is supposed to be IMO.

We
How charming, ad hominem attacks.
The last recourse of the logically challenged. Here's a tip boyo, if you cant summon up enough intellectual fortitude to refute my points, then just walk back in your bubble and move on.

You'll save face in the long run.

Oh and for the record, I've been a UK fan my entire and will always respect what pitino did to bring this program back to glory, after the darkest moment(that seemed more like a lifetime) in UK history. The failed experiment that was Eddie Sutton nearly destroyed not just the program, but the hearts and minds of all basketball loving Kentuckians whose greatest source of pride(excluding the minority of UofL fans) was in the teams who put on those blue and white jerseys and fought like wildcats on the court every year, declaring with every made shot who the true king of college basketball was and always will be.

Rick pitino's behavior was abhorrent and unbecoming of anyone with even a modicum of common courtesy and you will not read one defensive argument from me about it. But I'm also going to abstain from joining the remonstrating lynch mob calling for the tar and feathers and figurative noose all because he's turned into a sore loser in his advanced age.

He's apart of our history whether you like it or not, and deluding yourself into believing he was not instrumental in helping to rebuild our program into it's current iteration of the past 20+ years is nothing more than an exercise in stupidity.
Well call me stupid Zipp.

But let’s get to the truth of why. Once every two years, it’s an extremely emotional and difficult experience for me to coach in Rupp Arena.

I don't doubt it Ricky. [laughing]

It shouldn't have been put up to start with. It was a foolish decision to put a jersey in the rafters for a still active coach. Now that it has been done, the only way to correct the mistake is to take it down.

Completely agree. We don't hang banners for players who are still playing, and we should not hang banners for coaches who are still coaching. That's a decision that should not be made until after a coach has retired and his legacy has been settled.

The decision to hang both the Pitino and the four "Unforgettables" banners were dumb knee jerk decisions based on emotion instead of intelligent thought or regard for the precedent being set. May've felt good at the time, but ended up being mistakes in the end.

Yep, seems pretty clear. The fans immediate reaction seems to confirm it.

The most disgusting part of it, to me, is how Pitino tried to play the victim in his weak denial by claiming horrible things were being yelled at him when the audio on the video doesn't confirm that at all. All anybody yells is something like "one and done". Besides, Pitino is very well compensated to take abuse from opposing fans and should quit playing the victim when the video shows the fans behaving much better than him.

UK should go ahead and take down his banner. This was just the final straw.

Aw come on, lol, you can't be serious. There are a lot worse things said about him on this thread. To say "all anybody yells is something like one and done" is ridiculous, surely you don't believe that. LOL

I do think it needs to be taken down. But respectfully relocated elsewhere. I think about how Cals previous school(s) refused to honor him due to things that did or did not happen. I think Pitino has done enough to not 'entirely disregard' what he did for us, but to maybe recognize his accomplishments in a different way. Maybe in the future if he rights his wrongs in some way, or when he passes away then we consider putting it up again out of respect. Until then i dont think it belongs up there with names who have had, for the most part, honorable careers/lives.
this could be made with several banners hung in Rupp however all the hate towards Rick wouldn't be here if he wasn't coaching at dirty bird u. Look at it this way folks when men become old most of them become grumpy and say stupid shit. I thank pitino for what he did for Kentucky when he was our coach. He earned that respect. After he left I could care less about him because it in no way reflects what he did at Kentucky. Just ignorance and stupidity.

the guy that Pitino flipped off is on twitter (tgh3316)
he said he yelled 1 and 9 (he miss counted or was premature) then Pitino flipped him off
very classless action from Pitino

I'm sure other people may have said stuff more quiet to him, but on the video he flips somebody off right after they scream "1 and 9 baby." The only other thing in the video you can hear is people cheering.

that is a middle finger...no doubt...the index and thumb are making a "circle"

yep
i had to explain that to a buddy of mine
the only finger you can stick up and get that big of a circle is the middle finger

In this ultra-sensitive PC environment we have now, people have been reprimanded, suspended, and/or fired for less.

Here's what I believe. Folks are nastier on anonymous message boards than in public. Some fans probably do say nasty things to him but you certainly can't hear anything nasty on the audio. Rupp Arena's lower level isn't exactly known as the Cleveland Browns' "Dog pound". Most of the folks there aren't going to embarrass themselves by yelling horrible things at Pitino. I find it doubtful the Rupp Arena lower level fans are that nasty to him. Pitino is a very disingenuous person who is likely greatly exaggerating the degree of nastiness. Pitino is playing into the UK fans are horrible stereotype that is common among UofL fans to try to play the victim.

I think you are more than a little correct on this. It is hard to believe that some of our fans, yes we have a**holes too, had only weak and timid taunts like that for ho ho boy. I'd bet a dime to a dollar you wouldn't want your little one's to hear some of what was said. Doesn't justify for a moment flipping the fans off though; he has no class.

There is no doubt about the hatred for Pitino, but I don't think it was "1 and 9 baby" that caused him to flip if indeed he did. All this is childish, don't you think? :sunglasses:

hell, he says he didn't do it...so which "lie" you want to believe? and, IMO he thinks he is far enough down the tunnel not to be seen and this is just a venting moment for him. Nothing to do with anything said.

I may be misreading your post, but RP throwing up the "f***-you" sign is not ultra-sensitive PC.
I hate to say it but in the society in which we now live rude/crude behavior is now the norm and, unfortunately, what RP did isn't that big of a deal. If he is held accountable I will be more than happy to admit I was wrong on this one but I ain't too worried about having to do that.

You indeed misread my meaning...people have gotten in trouble with employers, etc. for far, far less. And so far all you hear from UL's administration is the sound of crickets.

He could have been flipping off Rupp in general cause he knows that was the last time he would be walking out of the arena. Could be why UofLsucksville admin has nothing to say.

You say "most of the folks " It only takes one to do that. People usually hear what they want to. I know I will get a lot of flak for even replying, but this is such a childish thing.

Saying that Pitino is greatly exaggerating the degree of nastiness is hilarious. I've seen to much on these boards to go along with that.lol

I'm actually listening to Matt this morning because of this. I agree with most of what he said including he should be suspended a game for that. Now Jurich actually doing that? Yea, right. Fact is as bad as that was for Rick, what can we really expect with an AD who's pretty much a slime ball. That's my opinion only of course. Jeez, I'm ashamed he was once AD at CSU. Glad he moved on.

Pitino loves to paint himself as the victim even in the face of his own obvious egregious behavior. This is more of the same.

I believe he flipped off the fans but the video is just inconclusive enough to give turtleneck an out. UL has no moral compass and this pales in comparison to some of their other scandals...nothing here to see citizens, go on about your lives.
