Reds

It looks like they have packed it in with a loss last night to the A's and a poor showing so far tonight. Bell needs to go.

Terrible to comeback after being down 5-0, score 6 unanswered and then lose 9-6. They said the Reds haven't "officially" announced Lowder yet though they have to. Can't keep exhausting the relievers with these bullpen games.

You don't have to keep exhausting relievers, and "bullpen" games are one of the most ignorant things in all of baseball.

You may not have a slew of MLB starters in the minors, but you definitely have people who can throw longer than 5 innings. That is two games in a row where Bell completely F'd up the game by pulling the starter. Calling up one pitcher isn't gong to solve his incompetence.

It is laughable listening to Sadak try to analyze pitch counts and who is best suited in certain situations.

I agree, Arroyo just lost a season this year so Edwin having to prove himself in AAA for awhile seems the most likely case for him. I mentioned trading him, but feel like that would be selling low right now until he returns to the field. Interesting thing I just saw that the Pirates just moved their star SS O'Neil Cruz to CF. Could this be in the cards for EDLC or the other infielders to fit all of them in the lineup in the future?
Seems he would be a natural out there. He just seems to lanky as a SS. yeah he has basically unlimited range and make some amazing snags sometimes, but he has to get really low on grounders and a few get by him. If they were keeping him in the infield, he probably would be better suited to have stayed at 3B with his arm. just my opinion.

Looks like Lowder will be called up to start the second game of Friday's Double Header against the Brew Crew.

Other than Nick Martinez on the active roster, who are those pitchers who can definitely pitch longer than 5 innings? Aguiar getting roasted right now. It certainly isn't Fernando Cruz who started yesterday. Junis can give them some length. Don't know how consistent you can expect that kind of performance from a journeyman like him though. Spiers gets lit up like a Christmas tree whenever he takes the mound.

Diaz sucks.
I agree. It is one thing to be a bad player and still bust your ass like Fairchild. It is a whole other story when they are lazy like Diaz. I mentioned a couple months ago in this thread when I went to the afternoon game vs St. Louis on Wednesday in June. Everyone else was in the bullpen, starters warming up on the field and past time for first pitch for the game to start. He was the last one to the bullpen, no urgency at all still walking across the field in the outfield. You can see it in his performance on the mound. It clearly shows. Used to think it was just in non-save situations, but last night blowing a save was another instance of his piss poor effort. I did not want to believe it here when people last year were on his case about blowing games, made the excuse for him about being overworked in 2023. He has been this way all year. He sucks like you said.

This is shameful. Absolutely embarrassing. Not even remotely competitive. The Brewers could call up the entire Nashville Sounds roster and beat the Reds asses. A bunch of damn losers. Such a disgrace. It is long past due to fire David Bell's ass. 14-0 now with a 10 spot in the Top of the 9th. Saw where Adames has 17 career home runs in 55 games vs the Reds. Unreal. So fed up of watching this team get whooped on a nightly basis.

If they lose tomorrow with Montas pitching for the Brewers after having him in the dugout all year, knowing Montas like the back of their hand, the entire coaching staff needs to be immediately fired. Should have already happened. Just lost to one of their own former pitchers Lorenzen this month.

Please Bob, fire David Bell! He is beyond pathetic in his managing this team. The Reds have talent, but he has no idea whatsoever how to use it. His entire staff from top to bottom need to go. Or maybe Bob needs to sell the team to a competent owner?

Let me add to the chorus of shit canning Diaz, never thought he was that great to begin with and he's been horrible this year.

Closers are a bit overrated IMO. Honestly, how hard is it to get 3 outs with a 2 run lead in the ninth ending if you start out with bases empty?

That is a typical save situation and almost any major league pitcher should be expected to do that consistently.

An old friend of mine paid money to sit in 80% humidity for that 14-0 bloodbath yesterday. But I did find some good Reds news today. Williamson has a sub 1.00 ERA in 13 innings @Louisville.
They definitely need his presence bad in the rotation. Glad to see Williamson making his return Sunday.

Nice to see Williamson and Suter return. Junis with another solid performance, this time out of the bullpen. Suter with 3 perfect innings. Diaz actually did his job. Good to have Fraley back too and hit a HR. Espinal has certainly turned his season around after the early season struggles. Avoid the sweep with his walk-off.

Great effort by the bullpen. Picked up 6 1/3 innings with 1 run. Espinal & Stephenson continue to produce at the plate. Rosario with a couple of hits too. Ty France has Verlander's number, 4 hits today. This makes the Reds 7th straight win over the Astros dating back to 2019. Swept them that season and last year as well.

The Reds have now beaten the Astros eight games in a row. Makes no sense.

EDLC looks like a lock to score 100 runs on a really bad offensive team, now 4th in NL in runs scored, plus leading in SBs by a mile.

Just checked the boxscore, is there any team in baseball with a set of outfielders that are worse hitters than the Reds? Possibly the ChiSox, but it would have to be a close call.

Needs to be our biggest off season adjustment.

I thought Steer would have a better year hitting and his play in the outfield is not good.
Benson needs to play in AAA until he figures it out.
Friedl needs to stay healthy.
Fraley the same.
Rece Hinds deserves a shot.
Fairchild does not.
Move Elly to the outfield?
Trade an infielder for an OF?

If the Reds want to get serious and keep a guy like EDLC around long-term, he should probably move to CF. They should start working him in out there next season while Edwin Arroyo spends the year at AAA working back from his injured shoulder. Maybe for a late season call-up but in preparation for being the full-time SS in 2026 with EDLC in CF. Get CES healthy too and have an infield of CES, McClain, Arroyo and Steer. Hopefully Hinds can work on his strikeout issues and take over RF. All that's left is shoring up LF and depth. Trade India for a quality OF. I'm about done with Marte until he shows he can produce off the juice. He should start next season in AAA.

Excellent start by Rhett Lowder in just his 2nd game, 6 1/3 scoreless innings. Ty France has been a little better than I initially gave him credit for. HR for the only run today. Reds 3 consecutive sweeps of the Astros. David Bell has never lost to Houston.

I would like this lineup below with everyone healthy. Working with what the Reds have currently without any offseason transactions and a speculative move of EDLC to CF that I have been calling before even prior to his debut looking ahead with the infield logjam.
LF Friedl/Steer/Fraley
CF EDLC/Friedl
RF Fraley/Hinds/Steer
Catcher Stephenson/Maile. Retain Barnhart to work with the young pitchers in Louisville and be the emergency catcher to recall during injuries.
3B Steer/Candelario/Espinal/Marte
SS McLain/Espinal
2B India/McLain/Espinal
1B CES/France/Candelario
DH France/Candelario/Marte

Preferrably move Candelario if you can find a sucker to take on that contract and free up ABs for everyone else. Marte should be optioned to Louisville, Fairchild & Benson outrighted to AAA or move on to another organization for a change of scenery.

For those ready to move on from India. Think about the reasons to move on from him. If it is because of not living up to expectations with his inconsistencies or injuries, other organizations will have the same concerns. So that is the kind of player the Reds will be getting in return unless packaged in a deal with prospects. I have a feeling many people are frustrated with India overstate his value and say trade him thinking they are going to get a proven All-Star just by his name alone and that teams would be trading for him under the assumption that India is the same player he was during the 2021 Rookie of the Year season. Not the guy with an injury history and his performance is sporadic. I like India, and not one of those trying to push him out the door unless the Reds find a deal that helps this team.

IMO, Arroyo is the bigger trade chip to move at the deadline next year once he proves he is healthy. He doesn't have a clear starting spot in the near future in Cincinnati without overtaking someone like Steer, McLain, India or EDLC. Arroyo still needs some seasoning in the minors. He had 4 games in Chattanooga in 2023. If he can bring in that top-tier outfielder, preferrably in RF then it is worth considering. Cincinnati doesn't lack top SS prospects whenever EDLC or McLain are in arbitration with the likes of Lewis, Stafura, Cabrera, Acosta, Balcazar, Sheng-En Lin & Naibel Mariano. At least one or two of these players should be talented enough to be a productive Major League shortstop with that talent.

Bell letting the Reds spot the Mets two early runs once again starting Fernando Cruz making this a bullpen game. The Reds have enough arms that can start or give the Reds a few innings (Lowder, Martinez, Acuna, Williamson, Spiers, Junis) now that this is not necessary to continue wearing down the bullpen. Warming up Williamson now in the bullpen. Bell needs to get his head out of his ass.
