Reds

Damn McLain just gave them a nice lead late with that 2-run home run, 7-3. Helluva series for him, Benson, Steer, Friedl, EDCL, Richardson a much better outing than his debut and Hopkins a couple of hits tonight. Hell practically the whole team played much better in this series.

7-3 Reds win!

Nice bounce back series to start the road trip with not only the first Reds series win in Anaheim but to sweep them too. 28 hits in the series. Not going to get easier fighting teams in the Wildcard race with Arizona & San Francisco on this road trip and come home to the Cubs for 4 games.

The Reds play better on the Road this year. The Reds are now 35-27 on the Road this season. This series was how the Reds were playing back in June and July and the bats were better during this series. The Reds have the best schedule in September compared to Cubs and Brewers. The Reds have the best Road record in the NL this year.

If Trey Mancini has anything left in the tank then this could be a sneaky under the radar signing. A low-risk, high-reward player that plays 1B and in the corner outfield. Has some power. A trade target in 2022 before Houston got him from Baltimore. Had some good years with the Orioles. Mancini has had some rough luck lately but I could see him at some point turning his career around like Cody Bellinger did after a couple of bad years with the Dodgers once he got out of there.

Also, the Mariners in contention just signed Luke Weaver!

Reds hold the last Wildcard spot by the slightest of margins by 0.5 game. At least they get head-to-head matchups vs ARI, SF & Chicago that they can determine their fate. Put some distance on teams or if they lose, can't blame anyone but themselves. Good series win. Mike Trout back to the IL for the Angels & Ohtani done pitching for the year with a torn UCL. Held Shohei to 1 home run and 2 hits IIRC. Not bad. They made all of those moves at the deadline and have fallen on their ass. What is it 17 out of their previous 22 games they have lost?

Seattle has certainly had their fair share of former Reds in recent years.

It's becoming fair to say that Nick Krall has built a talented team that's fun to watch but is actually made for the bigger ballparks.

IMO pretty much everyone on the field was a youngster trying to prove they belong (maybe Stephenson the exception).

Expectations will be low for Mancini so this is a good pickup. At worst, it doesn't workout he can be released. Rather see him than some of these off the wall jokes with marginal success at best while trying to contend. Mancini>Ramos/Martini/Myers/Vosler.

Votto and his bum shoulder to IL, recalled Senzel replacing one .200 hitter with another. Wonder if it'll take Senzel a week to catch up to the Reds?

Senzel & Barrero were both likely back on September 1st anyway.

I will unfortunately go back to not watching again if that loser Senzel is in the lineup. I refuse. He is bad for the team in many ways.

It needs to be Trey Mancini before anyone else and want him on the team before September 1st if the Reds make the postseason to be eligible for the roster then. Hit a home run for Louisville tonight.

Senzel got more lives than a cat.
Good for him but like I said a few weeks ago, happy for the Reds and if Senzel does something, great! No longer hyping him up or thinking he has learned anything to suggest he has 'turned the corner' as he is what he is at this point. Big moment, not going to take it away from it but leave it at that.

Reds have been above .500 since June and a lot has to be said about that for such a young team and dealing with injuries to multiple important players who are expected to be the future of this team. We've seen more top prospects debut than any season I can recall. When it is all said and done, would be satisfied in the end to finish like the 2022 Orioles team did exceeding everyone's expectations last year with a winning record. Now they are the best team in the American League with 79 wins. I don't see why that can't be the 2024 Cincinnati Reds. These young guys are gaining valuable experience this year and will have enough film to work on improving over the offseason to come back stronger and hopefully everyone stay healthy by Opening Day.

This is why everyone that says EDLC is struggling needs to be patient. That dude is special and is going to be an all time great IMO.

Brewers have won 5 straight since getting swept by the Dodgers. Cubs are 25-13 since the break. This is how you do it. 🎵

Good learning experience for the Reds youngsters.

Yeah, go figure he hits a homer. However, the Reds lost yet another game that Senzel played in. I believe that makes it 8 consecutive games without a win that he has played in.
True that and don't overlook Senzel failed to move the tying run in the 9th. Just because the D'Backs pitcher hit his bat is not reason to get excited.

Guessing he's played in games they've won as well but obviously I'd prefer a healthy Fraley or Fairchild instead. Now for the bad news. Senzel is under Reds control for 2 more years unless they trade him away or waive him (DFA). The thing is, anyone picking him up off waivers would have to place him on their 40-man roster. A tough task if you ask me but at least that would open up a spot for another Reds minor league prospect or until someone gets healthy.

The Reds have team control of him should for some reason decide to keep Nick around. However they can choose to non-tender Senzel at the end of the season making him a free agent.

Not getting why Barrero wasn't given another shot instead. He's played the OF and batting .280 in Louisville with 13 HR, 43 RBI, .926 OPS vs Senzel's .224 BA. Of course Senzel wasn't there near as long.

Fair point, of the two he does have more upside and only 415 career AB's at the MLB level is only 2/3 of a full season if you get close to 600 AB's. Would have made more sense now to see if he learned anything and made the necessary adjustments to make it in MLB.

In Senzel's defense, I have no clue why 33 year old Nick Martini, with 286 career major league at bats and 2 homers, is our DH and batting 5th again. Bell is really dumbfounding. Stephenson seems to be getting hot and of course he sits tonight for Nick Martini.

3 additional years of this shit is going to be tough to watch.

:D Missed another one

I like Marte's game a lot. Has made some slick plays at 3B in this year and will be a dynamic bat in this lineup when he gets going. His speed on the base paths with a couple of huge steals at crucial points in the game. He doesn't seem intimidated by the spotlight which I like opposed to being timid. Mariners fans really hated losing him, well we hated losing Castillo too!

After another rough start by Greene, yeah I miss Castillo no doubt.

You just can’t have this from your supposed “ace”. They were better off leaving him on the IL this year and getting a rented arm at the deadline…Lorenzen?

I do not think now and have never thought since seeing him pitch that Hunter Greene translates as a starter. He is a closer or high end setup guy. He has 2 pitches, thats it, he gets hurt constantly and after a lineup sees him the 2nd time he gets destroyed.

Hunter Greene is a closer.

Pretty much so. He has poor command of his secondary pitches that allows teams to sit on his fastball. Big League hitters can hit Big League velocity.

On a side note, thought it was BS to have 3-4 plump security guards escort a 10 year old kid out of the ball yard for instinctively catching a baseball.

It was sad for the kid and If I were them with it being a little kid, would have just assigned him a seat somewhere else without kicking him out entirely for the duration of the game to appease both sides and the ones wanting him gone would have never known. Especially with empty sections at the top of Chase Field.

Agree. Also, Steer needs to look at himself, letting a 10 year old take the ball away from him! 🤣

Agree 100%. He needs to develop some kind of change up or offspeed pitch to be a starter. And his fastball is straight as an arrow.
