Reds

A Marte call-up really throws a wrench into the lineup shaking it up but I think it is a good thing at this stage with the offense as stagnant as it has been. Anytime you can reach down and call up your #1 prospect should be reason for excitement. The lineup could go many ways now. Definitely see Votto as the odd man out here and Stephenson less playing time at DH. If it were me, as the roster stands today with the current injuries factored in, I would go with LF Steer, CF Friedl, RF Benson, 3B Marte, SS EDLC, 2B McLain, 1B CES, DH Votto while they are out India & Fraley. If India comes back at all this season which I'm going to assume is a possibility he does not with the timing of the Marte callup, then India should get DH at-bats and not further risk injury playing the field.

As far as Fraley, he would likely go back to RF and Benson to LF. Leaving 1B AB's up to CES, Votto & Steer and all will fight for AB's at DH with India too. Steer and CES deserve to start everyday but we are now at this point where the Reds backed themselves into the corner with so many infielders and will be up to them to figure out how to fairly disperse the playing time among all of them. Simply not enough room for everyone. Stephenson's struggles definitely makes him the odd man out at DH which is not a bad thing given he is not hitting much at all and isn't the best defensive catcher. Sharing his duties with Maile who handles the bat surprisingly well for a backup is a fine approach.
The way Jim Day talks, sounds as if Fraley is going to get DH at-bats playing with a fractured toe. It kept Aaron Judge out a couple of months this season.

Bells great managing to pinch hit Ramos earlier on comes back to bite. Benson OPS+ 136, Ramos 84. That is unacceptable. A complete idiotic move.

Also, upgrading catcher needs to be at the top of the to-do list in the off-season. TySteve is complete dog poop offensively and defensively

You're right though many still want to treat the Stephenson situation with kid gloves reminding everyone about the screws in the shoulder and the injury. Hope I'm wrong but afraid he is what he is at this point. Reds need an upgrade and not a bandage to cover up the situation over the offseason with no catcher in the pipeline even remotely close to contributing at the MLB level. Of the regular starters, he is the only one that really hasn't had a hot streak of his own this season. Once again Bell overmanaging and no way should Ramos had been at the plate in a crucial moment. This is Toronto, not Pittsburgh. Can't afford to be dropping games in a tight Wildcard & Division race sitting 3 back of Milwaukee now.

I don't know if I'm that far yet to see Maile become the primary catcher. Maile is a backup catcher and thriving in that role. Expecting more of him as a primary catcher you will still need someone else in there and only proves how much a legit starting catcher place in his would be needed. Cincinnati does not need to be carrying 3 catchers for a .240 hitter and Tyler is not a gold glove catcher by any stretch of the imagination. Stephenson is cheap and will have 3 more years of team control through 2026 to get it figured out.

I get letting Hunter Greene have one to find his rhythm again after being out so long but this is getting ridiculous.
EDC's inability to hit doesn't seem to phase anyone.
Stephenson's struggles have absolutely nothing to do with anyone else's struggles, including EDLC and your personal vendetta against him. You don't know shit about baseball thinking every rookie should come up here from day one playing like Ronald Acuna. Get real!!

Letting Greene throw 90 pitches in his first start back was asinine. Letting Greene throw 90 pitches while getting his ass tore up needs to get Bell fired immediately.

EDC...he sucks and is the most overrated and overhyped player in a long time. Period.

Yeah EDLC has a lot of work to do and Bell is a shit manager, no question about that. Still though I need to see more than a couple months into EDLC's 1st season before writing him off. It's a collective effort going around why this team is struggling and not going anywhere as inconsistent as they have been.

Going to have to live with Marte's throwing until he adjusts. Don't know who Reds infield D coach is(Benavides?) but he has some work to do.

Greene's going to get somebody hurt out there if he doesn't make better pitches.
It wasn't just Marte out there with a mistake in his 1st start. McLain looking lost at 2B, EDLC in the field too. 4 errors today.

Marte has a lot of work to do defensively. He is transitioning to 3B this year however he has a fielding percentage at both SS/3B in the .920s. Other than that, I like the speed and hitting he will bring to the lineup. I see big things in his future though needs to improve defensively like others on this team. A work in progress like all of these rookies. Can't say I'm surprised by the rust Hunter Greene showed but am surprised by how long David Bell left him in there other than the only way to shake off rust is to pitch through it and lessen the bullpen workload. The relievers still had to carry the load today with 6 innings, 1 run.

Freidl-like, lefty tho not much of a hitter, good defensive player with nice arm and speed. Can steal a base.
I think it's time he gets one more shot to either rule him out completely going forward or make his way with these outfield injuries right now. He might be able to stick around the league in a role off the bench. Unlikely here long term though. See him destined to be more like that guy the Reds have in Louisville a couple of years ago, Mallex Smith who could not hit much but has the speed and defense of Billy Hamilton that keeps him in a job all of these years later. Bench option, Fairchild slightly more offensive potential but the edge defensively to Siani.

Reds called up Nick Martini, Henry Ramos designated for assignment. Kind of a lateral move, neither one are MLB caliber players. Still wishing Blake Dunn who has speed and more power than Siani was called up in the wave of all of these outfield injuries. Destined to get the TJ Hopkins treatment at this rate getting buried in the minors before getting called up. Will be 25 years old less than 2 weeks, still in AA.

Going to have to operate as if he isn't coming back this year and certainly raises a lot of questions about durability with how injury prone he is. Greene has to bounce back to form and be the pitchers the Reds paid him to be. Need Brett Kennedy to continue to do what he has and Lively be serviceable whenever he returns without games like he had at Wrigley earlier this month.

Nice comeback win 4-3, Ashcraft grinded it out for 7 innings with 10 strikeouts. Great to see him win another game. Bullpen did their job too and the offense did enough playing hard especially EDLC scoring on that double by Steer to get to 3B. Abbott vs Ohtani in Game 1 tomorrow.

Since the DSL season has ended i’m going to spotlight a few players that stood out this season. ACL ends today. I’ll do the same with them

Alfredo Duno, Catcher
17 Y/O, B/T:R/R

Alfredo was limited to DH this season due to an arm injury. i don’t think anything to severe. i heard they were going to let him start catching this fall

45 G, 195 PA, 303/451/493/945
38 BB, 41 SO, 6 HR, 6 SB

Alfredo Alcantara B/T:R/R
17 Y/O, SS

I believe Alfredo had the 2nd highest signing bonus at one point. not sure if Sheng-En Lin, who was signed late, got more or not.

35 G, 152 PA
267/411/467/877
24 BB, 33 SO, 5 HR, 2 SB

Yael Romero B/T:L/R
17 Y/O, 1B

If he’s going to play 1B he is going to have to show more power. you can’t find info on these guys in the DSL. I don’t know what his problem is. is he having problems elevating the ball or just not generating power? I have no idea. he seems to have a good hit tool tho.

33 G, 131 PA
272/482/380/861
35 BB, 29 SO. 1 HR, 1 SB

Yeycol Soriano B/T:L/L
17 Y/O, CF

273/388/427/815
2 HR, 6 SB, 19 BB, 23 SO

Gabriel Gomes, B/T:R/R
19 Y/O, Catcher

he’s not had a lot of time but will probably move to the ACL Next season since he’s already 19. only played in 3 games last year. I assume because of injury but don’t know for sure.

Marte batting leadoff is 0-2 with a walk.
Friedl batting 6th is 2-2, HBP and scored a run on Stephenson's HR.
