Frankly, the Reds can't keep pandering to sub .220 hitters like Barrero or Myers who do something once in a blue moon. A catcher probably does go and roll the dice that nothing happens to Stephenson. As noted already, should the worst case scenario happen if the catching depth gets wiped out, Chuckie Robinson is down in Louisville hitting nearly .340 gaining valuable experience with the young pitchers and worked with many of the current Reds pitchers last year.Between Casili and Maile, it seems like Maile might have put together a season so far that might garner him some interest in a package trade deal. I like Casili in what he brings in experience helping the young pitchers, but he brings nothing offensively. I'm just not seeing what Barrero is bringing to the table yet. if they cut ties with him, It wouldn't be a big loss. Obviously the ship has sailed on him being the SS of the future. That's in EDLC or McClain's hands at this point.
^Other than the too many errors part which I'll give him credit for his defense & versatility, everything else sounds just like Jose."Berroa is an excellent natural athlete, and this shows up strongly on defense. His range, arm strength, and hand coordination are all excellent. He makes too many errors, but is more reliable than he used to be, and this will improve with time. Questions continue to revolve around his bat. He has power, but struggles to control the strike zone."
Did not see this coming.
Aw, but that would have been fun watching Hunter Greene Vs. Hunter Brown.Probable pitchers for the Astros & Reds series
Tonight Abbott vs JP France 2-1 3.54 ERA
Sat Greene vs Brandon Bielak 3-3 4.01 ERA
Sun Weaver vs Ronel Blanco 1-0 3.86 ERA
Yordan Alvarez put on the IL for 4 weeks a couple of days ago. Lance McCullers, Luis Garcia & Jose Urquidy on the IL. All things considered, with the Reds playing better this is about as good of timing as you can ask for going into Houston. At least they're not facing Christian Javier, Framber Valdez or Hunter Brown. Hope the Reds make the most of it.

Up 2-0 on the Astros in the 9th. Two on. Tyler Stephenson on 1st. Why would you not pinch run EDLC for him at this point? Does Steer bring on second negate the need for that?Good god Reds benched EDLC in favor of Senzel, the apocalypse is near. Benches a generational player with power and great speed for a .250s singles hitter with a "sore knee."
I think he was 0 for the Royals series, maybe just wanted to give him a day off after the team day off yesterday.Good god Reds benched EDLC in favor of Senzel, the apocalypse is near. Benches a generational player with power and great speed for a .250s singles hitter with a "sore knee."

I like it because I can drink like a fish and still calculate his ERA to the third decimal. And after my fifth beer, I can calculate his ERA to the third decibel! One hell of a start to a MLB career for Abbott!
He looked fresh and efficient through 6, so who knows?Still not sure why they took Abbott out after six Innings of shutout ball and he only through 83 pitches. But it worked out.
It did? Senzel was 0-4 with another K, now "hitting" in the upper .240s. Senzel doesn't get credit for timely hitting by TS/Newman. Bell almost killed the offense with that move.It worked!
Calm down. They gave the youngster a day off!
A win is a win, and maybe gets Cruz out of a mini-slump.It did?
De La Cruz hasnt gotten a ball out of the infield in a week. Its been disgustingly bad. He needed a break, and like Bell said, to slow things down and get back to baseball. It worked, because the Reds won their 6th in a row and are a half game out of first. It did? Senzel was 0-4 with another K, now "hitting" in the upper .240s. Abbott's success is storybook. Reds catching Houston at a good time with injuries to some of their top hitters/pitchers.
Just giving an opinion, that's what people do on message boards. If you don't care for my opinion fine, don't read it or block me.De La Cruz hasnt gotten a ball out of the infield in a week. I seriously think you would bitch if the Reds won the World Series. You would find something to gripe about and type FO at least 93 times like you do in all of your posts.
Hopefully if he does play he won't go 0-4 again with 2 K's and 2 weakass groundouts to the shortstop.Just giving an opinion, that's what people do on message boards. If you don't care for my opinion fine, don't read it or block me.
I can actually recall the Reds winning a WS, I'd love to see it again. Won't happen with current ownership/FO, they lack the creativity needed to make such a run but they could decide who does win. The young guys are fun to watch but they need to play instead of propping up guys like Senzel, a .250s singles hitter with limited XBHs despite playing every day minus the 12 games just missed with a "sore knee." Reds gave up on Barrero, won't give CES a sniff yet cater to Senzel as if he's the second coming.
Greene today, let's see if Bell lets the one generational player he has back on the field.
Don't give a hoot in hell about the NFL. I. Don't. Care.Hopefully if he does play he won't go 0-4 again with 2 K's and 2 weakass groundouts to the shortstop.
Pretty much anyone that actually follows the Reds knows the front office has accumulated awesome talent and has them positioned for a really nice 4-5 year run. There are other awesome players on the field besides EDLC. With more waiting in the wings in the minors because the FRONT OFFICE made great trades and drafted well. The future is bright, but if it makes you feel better to incessantly bitch and whine about the front office that accumulated this talent, knock yourself out. Im an enormous Bengals fan too because I live in the area. You probably still bitch about Mike Brown, too.
I love the guy. Ive been over to see him play 4 times now. Have you??? I just understand that with all the hype that has surrounded him he was slumping and needed to get his head straight. Hopefully he comes out tonight with a new approach and makes the team even better.Don't give a hoot in hell about the NFL. I. Don't. Care.
Sorry you hate the one player that can take the Reds to the heights you want. SMH.
I don't live in the area, have seen EDLC play every game he's been up on TV. Wished I could see him live. I'm just stunned at the disdain you have for the guy in the very short time he's been in Cincy while claiming to be a Reds fan.I love the guy. Ive been over to see him play 4 times now. Have you??? And baseball takes a helluva lot more than 1 guy. Ask Mike Trout.
Seriously, you have some issues. Disdain?? I pay to go watch the guy. I was at his very first game, went because they called him up.I don't live in the area, have seen EDLC play every game he's been up on TV. Wished I could see him live. Yes, you need more than one guy but what you DON'T need is a roster of .230-.250 singles hitters. Reds need to move on from those guys. Reds have had a good run in the last 10 days-2 weeks. Let's see if they can maintain.
Benson will have an opportunity because the OF is where the PT will be for the most part. The infield looks pretty much set if Steer is the 1st baseman of the future and why wouldn't he be?Tyler Stephenson finding some power recently after the collarbone injury and with multiple threats in the lineup will continue to get good pitching. Feel like he will be the unsung hero on many nights like tonight with his home run. Benson continues to get and excellent speed to warrant his playing time.
Why do you feel compelled to attack me personally? You're a very small person.Seriously, you have some issues. Disdain?? I pay to go watch the guy. I was at his very first game, went because they called him up.
You are whining and crying like a little bitch because he didnt play last night. Good lord give it a rest. We won.
I just don't see the numbers working for India to stay at 2B full-time once Marte is ready, which could still be around a year from now. They've seemed more willing to move Steer around than India, so I'll assume he's destined to be the LF. I tend to think India is headed toward 1B or DH and then play 2B on days when other guys need days off.Benson will have an opportunity because the OF is where the PT will be for the most part. C Stephenson
1B Steer
2B India
SS McLain
3B EDLC
FWIW and don't know how you feel about the MLBN but most of their talking heads see McLain as the Reds 2B long term with EDLC at SS, Steer to LF. Still think the Reds will offer India for a SP(I know that's not popular), something the Reds will need long term. That would open 1B for CES, 3B for Marte in late '24.I just don't see the numbers working for India to stay at 2B full-time once Marte is ready, which could still be around a year from now. I tend to agree with them. My guess on the post-trade deadline Reds when healthy:FWIW and don't know how you feel about the MLBN but most of their talking heads see McLain as the Reds 2B long term with EDLC at SS, Steer to LF. I could buy that but I don't think Barrero's done just yet. He's only 25, really good athlete with nice power. Fenway grand slam, line drive CF hit that could've taken Kershaw's head with it have been forgotten. Reds off season will be interesting, should be moving guys.I tend to agree with them. My guess on the post-trade deadline Reds when healthy:
Catchers (2)
Tyler Stephenson
Curt Casali OR Luke Maile
Infielders (5)
Joey Votto
Jonathan India
Elly De La Cruz
Matt McLain
CES
Outfielders (4)
TJ Friedl
Jake Fraley
Will Benson
Stuart Fairchild
Utility (2)
Spencer Steer
Nick Senzel
I think the easiest thing to do through the rest of this year is keep EDLC at 3B most days and keep McLain at SS. Steer can still play 1B occasionally if needed but I think he's heading toward LF for the most part. Senzel shouldn't play against RHP but would def play him against LHP. Fairchild isn't an everyday player but I really like him on the bench. Good speed, good defender and isn't a complete liability at the plate. He's earned a spot on this team.
Anything's possible with the DH.I just don't see the numbers working for India to stay at 2B full-time once Marte is ready, which could still be around a year from now. The thing that bugs me a little bit is they could have given the bullpen another day's rest. Diaz has been pitching a whole lot lately and looked a little tired in the 9th.He looked fresh and efficient through 6, so who knows?
