I don't think he's a bad outfielder. Makes mistakes like everyone else but won play of the week in April on this catch vs the Cubs. Plus 3 incredible catches in his short time with Cleveland last year. Versatility in all 3 OF spots. Not so sure the play vs the Dodgers as even Barry alluded too might have had interference and few guys have the athleticism he possesses to make these plays.I like Wil Benson but man he's a bad outfielder.
Pretty sure the Bats got rained out. He could be the MVP of that entire league.Saw where he's off today. I guess Reds rehabbers are taking his ABs unfortunately.
Still learning. Good speed, nice arm and a poor teacher in Pickler. Was surprised Pickler was retained after poor Reds OF play in '22.I like Wil Benson but man he's a bad outfielder.

Reds send Nick Senzel to Triple-A to start rehab assignment - Redleg Nation
The Cincinnati Reds have sent Nick Senzel on a rehab assignment to play with the Triple-A Louisville Bats as he recover from a knee injury.www.redlegnation.com
Seem to recall him in the organization a couple of years back. There is a Yankees site like the Blog Red Machine one for Cincinnati, that 2 of 3 dark horse trade candidates for them would be Senzel & Fraley. They can keep dreaming about Fraley, Reds need to hold onto him.Think Mariot got a W Sat night.
Just what kind of "knee injury" does Senzel supposedly have?
I don't expect the Reds to get anything better than what they are willing to give up but you can work some kind of package to get a solid 3-4 starter or a reliever for the stretch run. If the Reds want quality in return, the prospect ship has sailed on Barrero & Senzel and they will need to be willing to part with some of the top prospects within the organization to entice GM's across the league to bite. No contending team is going to be willing to part with their productive players and sellers want prospects. Not has beens or busts.Barrero has options. That would free up one roster spot. Could trade Senzel since this year is about as good as it will get with him but won't get much in return. There is still value in having utility players like him & Barrero that play both the infield and outfield plus are cheap. So the Reds may look elsewhere within to make room CES and the injured players.
You can try to make a trade using one of the backup catchers and Senzel or Barrero but the reasons you think they are 'expendable' will be the same level of players you will get back. Fans wanting the Reds to move on from players like the ones mentioned here and expect quality in return aren't thinking realistically.
After leaving Kansas City which they need to sweep with that schedule, it really is make or break to see which way this season is headed. .500 would be nice but even slightly under over the next 3 1/2 weeks with a 4-game set vs the Nats after that brutal stretch, we'll know what this team is made of.Reds take the series with a 4-3 win over St. Louis. Diaz 15th save this year, 20 saves in a row and a great catch by Benson to seal the game. Upcoming series vs the Royals, 2nd worst team in baseball then the schedule gets tougher with tougher teams like Houston, Atlanta, Baltimore & San Diego and the under .400 Rockies mixed in there. Should the Reds stay close to where they are by the All-Star break, the 2nd half schedule looks pretty favorable.
Wonderful catch to end the game by Benson. 3-hit game too. If his offense continues to improve, all of a sudden I'm liking an outfield with Fraley, Steer, Friedl & Benson. 4 really solid options.Still learning. Good speed, nice arm and a poor teacher in Pickler. Was surprised Pickler was retained after poor Reds OF play in '22.
Anxiously awaiting his call-up. For a 6'0 guy, he's one helluva power hitter.Encarnacion Strand Update:

And Marte's out with a hammy. Hopefully Johnson/McGarry are coming around. Free/Northcut are 2 to follow. Would have to think Richardson will eventually get bumped to AAA.Chattanooga put up some huge numbers in yesterday's 12-1 win over Birmingham.

Dayum, you are tuuuuufff on these guys. EDLC is the top prospect in all of MLB, you act like if these guys aren't the second coming of Ken Griffey Jr. they aren't worth a $hit. You act like he should still be down in A ball. He started AAA 2-22 then exploded. Give these guys some damn time. there are tons of great players who were prone to high strikeout rates. He's 21 years old. he has time to work things out and I'd rather he be up in the bigs working things out in a rebuilding year, than down in Louisville feasting off minor league pitching. He is light years from commanding anything. He has to learn to hit MLB pitching first. 10 K's in 14 AB's so far. The talent is obviously there but he's way overmatched at this stage.
Agree, Richardson deserves a call-up for sure. If so, might even get him in the mix for SP rotation spot out of ST in 2024 depending on when he gets to AAA.And Marte's out with a hammy. Hopefully Johnson/McGarry are coming around. Free/Northcut are 2 to follow. Would have to think Richardson will eventually get bumped to AAA.
Depends on the asking price. Would not be willing to send them Marte, Arroyo, Petty, Phillips or any Top 10 prospect. Possibly consider moving Michael Siani who has already been called up once, prospects like Callihan, Torres or Hinds. I'm sure they would want Barrero and let him play it out at SS over washed up Wil Myers. Not looking to take scraps off the ML roster. Feel like Salazar & Duarte are more than capable of helping this team in middle relief. Law & Sanmartin will be back. I don't expect much out Santillan or Antone in 2023 but 2024 could be a different story if they start the year off healthy.McLain leading the Reds in All-Star votes.
I wouldn't unload much for either of these 2. Unless you are an established All-Star closer in your prime years, relief pitching is so volatile from year to year. The Reds don't need a closer with Diaz but a great setup man with closing experience before Diaz will be needed as arms tire out for the stretch run. Just 2 years ago, Cessa was the big piece in a trade for relief pitching and gone now. Chapman getting old and from a clubhouse standpoint, things did not end well for him in New York. Not the same pitcher the Reds had 8 years ago. Chapman has been fine this year, 35 years old though and not worth big time prospects coming off the subpar 2022 season he had.

Reds should open trade talks with the Royals immediately for these 2 relievers
The Kansas City Royals are reportedly making relievers Scott Barlow and Aroldis Chapman available. The Cincinnati Reds should jump on this trade opportunity.blogredmachine.com
Blake Dunn is another one with decent power and speed who the Reds should give him a shot in AAA very soon. Could help the outfield, 9 HR, 30 RBI, 20 SB and .273 on the season. And Marte's out with a hammy. Hopefully Johnson/McGarry are coming around. Free/Northcut are 2 to follow. Would have to think Richardson will eventually get bumped to AAA.
As long as they get a guy with 2-3 years of control and not a 1/2 season rental, then they should try and make a move to get a decent middle of the rotation starter from somewhere. Thinking a Sonny Gray type guy who's a reliable innings eater (Though Sonny Gray would be an ace on this years staff).I don't expect the Reds to get anything better than what they are willing to give up but you can work some kind of package to get a solid 3-4 starter or a reliever for the stretch run. I agree with this. That Sonny Gray trade was a good move for giving up only Shed Long & a competitive balance pick. Brought Revier Sanmartin to the Reds too.As long as they get a guy with 2-3 years of control and not a 1/2 season rental, then they should try and make a move to get a decent middle of the rotation starter from somewhere. Whatever deadline moves they make, if any, need to be for guys with some team control left. No rentals. Nobody expected them to be in any sort of contention this year, remote or not, so they still need to be looking towards longer term and trying to contend with what they have in the system or with guys they obtain that will be available for coming seasons.
There was some risk involved with that one seeing how Sonny Gray was coming off injury plagued seasons in New York & Oakland before that. The smartest thing the Reds did with Gray was having him agree to a 3-year contract extension before making the trade and bring on Derek Johnson that helped get his career back on track.I agree with this. Like I said, this narrative about the Reds becoming buyers in 2023 in a weak NL Central pushing their chips in is the wrong approach. Need to work with what they have and it's a nice young group to build around. It is one thing to be competitive in the NL Central but making noise in the postseason not getting knocked out in the Wildcard Round or NLDS is another story. Chapman is a 2 month rental for a team not ready to win in 2023. If he thinks it is awesome to return to Cincinnati, he is a free agent at the end of the season and can return then if he really wants to. I'm fine letting prospects like Legumina, Salazar, Karcher & Duarte get the experience they need this season to help this team going forward or rule them out if they have had enough of a chance to prove themselves.![]()
MLB trade deadline chip Aroldis Chapman: Would be 'awesome' to return to Cincinnati Reds
If the Cincinnati Reds continue to play well enough to be buyers at the trade deadline, Aroldis Chapman has an 'awesome' idea for a reliever to add.www.cincinnati.com

That interview suggests the Reds are picking up guys off the street and putting them in save situations, making this season all the more fun. Also when the Cowboy talks like this team is different from any other MLB team in the last 20 years, I can see it. For example, the Reds have seemingly manufactured more runs in the last 10 weeks than this club has seen in 5 years time.🤣Karcher is a damn wildcard. Also dropping the "holy shit" bomb live on Jim Day. Hilarious!!! Reds win!
And the Reds are getting ready to screw it up. Reds are days from activating Votto, Senzel, Ramos, Myers and there's nothing, zero, zilch those guys bring to this team that makes them better. Matter of fact, those 4 will weaken the team in several areas. Instead of calling up CES to strengthen the team the FO is preparing to gut it. I don't advocate activating all of these guys but 3 of them have led to wins already this year. I'm even warming up to Fairchild who seems like a guy you need to watch everyday to appreciate but really isn't great at any one thing. And the Reds are getting ready to screw it up.
