Reds

At least that area has improved for the Reds lately. It could be a strength for this team once everyone is healthy. Young, Law & Gibaut have been solid. Sanmartin has been decent and often put in difficult game situations once it's already out of hand, has some durability as a starter. Herget will be back, was decent in the same role as Sanmartin in middle relief. Sims looked well in his return. Diaz is great and will come around. The least of my concerns despite the ERA over 5.00. Farmer has been better of late much like he was in the 2nd half last year.

Cruz has work to do especially with Herget, Karcher, Nutof, Busenitz in Louisville pitching well. Also Lyon Richardson on the 40-man could make a surprise debut to Cincinnati. At some point Santillan will be back, much later for Antone though I don't expect much right away for 2 pitchers that have been out as long as they have been.
I had zero hope for anyone not named Diaz so to be decent lately is a surprise. I think bringing in some vets has been very helpful until some of the youngsters are ready. And again, they likely have to perform as well as the starters to keep from losing 100 games because the offense might be a couple of years away.

The most important part is there are pitchers that have shown potential and some that have had success for the Reds in the past that will be back to help them at some point. Even better knowing there are some good relievers waiting in the minors who I feel at any point could help the team this year if called upon. The Reds will go as far as the pitching will take them until the top offensive prospects make their way to Cincinnati or some of the depth of infield prospects gets traded for an outfielder that can hit. Especially with the Reds best outfield prospects being a few years away. The future is bright for the infield going forward when you have to make room for stars like McLain, ELDC, CES at 1B with players like Steer & India. We'll see what they decide on Barrero, think they should move him to CF.

Can't see this team consistently putting up enough runs to win until help in the form of CES, ELDC & McLain get up here. India, Friedl & Steer have done all they can so far but it's going to take more than these 3 to win games for the Reds.

I'm sure Fraley will get it going eventually, Barrero & Myers have had their moments. Stephenson may take a while still if he ever fully gets back to the player who hit .319 in 183 ABs last year. Who knows what Votto has left at nearly 40 coming off rotator cuff surgery and still not back. Hate to see what appears to be his final season missing so much time and spending much of it trying to get back to form.

As far as Senzel, Vosler, Fairchild & Newman they can't hit consistently enough to warrant a spot in the lineup everyday but right now there are no better options to send out there on this team. Benson who I was erroneously high on, more wishful thinking, has 1 hit since being demoted to Louisville.
McClain with his 5th HR tonight. Could we please move past this fantasy that Senzel is a ML player, move Barrero to CF and instill McClain at SS.....until EDLC is ready? Senzel and his .150 BA and zero power is taking ABs away from McClain and others. SMH.

Pirates sitting in a good position at 14-7 with this year's #1 draft pick. Cincinnati 7-13 after tonight's loss with the #7 pick. This absolutely sucks just like the offense. Can only hope the Reds get the luck of the draw and for our top position players arrive to Cincinnati soon.

It's a shame that as pitiful as the Reds organization is they have to fumble and stumble their way to the #7 pick. If it wasn't for bad luck the Reds would have no luck at all. Overcoming a poor FO/development staff is just too big a bite to chew.

Exactly. There's a big difference between spending low and being smart and then the way the Reds do it spending low and not having a clue what you're doing.

Sweet, I'll be in Slugger Field for Thunder tomorrow so I'll get to see him play.
Nice! It's now a double header today because of the rain out last night. Heard a stat the other day the last time the Bats were even one game over .500 was in 2016. freaking pathetic.

Yeah, I had to read and reread that. Just unreal yet the Reds FO thinks those guys will help the Reds. '23 Reds team is just an extension of '22 but at least Drury had 20 HRs or whatever and Pham hit like .250. Vosler/Myers have accidentally hit a couple of HRs(I think the pitchers hit their bats instead of them hitting the ball) and former Top 5 pick Senzel's hitting like .180 but they still think he can play. As you said, freaking pathetic.

The Reds are nothing more than a middle tier AAA team. No power at all, so they have to string together three and four hits an inning to score. Three good young starting pitchers but 4 and 5 are terrible.

Cessa is off to a good start and he has to be to get this team a win.

In other newz, Luis Castillo is 2-0 with a 0.73 ERA.
Sonny Gray is 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA.
smh

I'm stunned that there are 10 teams ranked worse than the Reds on offense through 20 games this season. This lineup is so incompetent. It doesn't matter how good some of these guys pitch or settle in after a rough start. The pitching staff has to be damn near perfect with this anemic offense. There was talk of an Adam Duvall reunion. Duvall, .455 AVG, 4 HR & 14 RBIs this year at $7 million before the injury. If they could have mustered up $4 million from somewhere over the $3 million Wil Myers is making it would have been great to have Adam back in GABP.

5 Game Losing Streak Now. 6 runs scored in the last 5 games.
That's embarrassing. Seriously look at that lineup they're putting on the field right now it's a bunch of guys that are middle of the road players. The pitching staff is actually doing a very good job they just get no run support at all

8 hits all singles tonight, 5 hits all singles last night. Could see this in the off season with each pathetic signing. Earth to Reds FO: You're playing in a tiny band box ballpark, you need power hitters. Time for the callups, if your going to lose, lose with younger guys. Vosler, Newman, Senzel, Maile, Myers need to go and that's just for starters. What the FO is doing is not building, it's maintaining mediocrity.

Thought he did well too, 2 runs in 4 2/3 much better than last Sunday. This is more of what I thought he would be, serviceable. Pitched good enough to win if only the bats were up to par with the bullpen doing their job and starting pitching for the most part.

I actually like Cessa, just think he's not a SP. Pretty good set up man, a guy who could give you 2-3 middle innings of relief if necessary. That the Reds have misused him isn't a surprise, that's what they do.

Yeah it was nice to get 14 innings of baseball as opposed to 9. ELDC only played the first game. Hit the second pitch he saw pretty solid but the right fielder made a shoestring catch to snag it. Didn’t do much else at the plate but defensively did make a nice diving grab to end the top half of an inning. Everything about him screams star though. Just the way he carries himself, he’s big, athletic, strong. Looks like a man among boys out there despite being younger than probably every player out there.

McClain played both games and looked pretty good too. But he batted after ELDC in the first. and looked like a midget at the plate compared.

Oh, and old Billy Hamilton was playing for Charlotte. Still batting around .172.

After looking at the lineups the Louisville Bats we’re putting out yesterday I no saw a bunch of guys I’ve never heard of. Why are some of the better prospects playing in lower divisions? Is it to balance the rosters? Contractual reasons? Is Alejo Lopez better than Noelvi Marte at 3B? I saw Lopez make two defensive blunders that cost them runs yesterday. Is Abbott worse than all of the pitchers the Bats are trotting out there? We drafted a couple of catchers pretty high. What’s happened to Mat Nelson?

I really wish the Reds would sell to a competent group of owners who place a premium on being able to develop the minor league talent. I’m tired of looking up guys and seeing stats like a .205 avg and an ops of like .581. For guys we drafted high or traded for playing in places like Dayton and Chattanooga.

Stoudt, Roa, Acuna and Hensey all make starts today(4/23). All could be in Cincy by '24....or more than likely all will be buried in the low minors. Burns me that contenders who can buy about any player also bring up their top prospects and don't miss a beat. Reds player development is damned poor. It's like pulling hen's teeth to move a guy from AA to AAA, much less to MLB. Move Barrero to CF, call up McClain to play SS and end this stupid charade that Senzel and his .150 BA is a major leaguer.

Reds are the ultimate bad combination team. They have no power and they strike out a whole lot.

Hunter Greene today 6 ip 4 hits 1 run 6 ks. And of course he's losing one to nothing.

It doesn't matter if Pittsburgh is off to a hot start or not. You play this team as much as anyone on the schedule therefore should be more familiar with this roster. Just shows how this team isn't even competitive within their own division. Coming off 2 shutouts in back to back home games to Tampa Bay and a 4-game sweep to Pittsburgh is absolute bullshit. No 2 ways about it!!! You can't ask anymore from the pitching staff lately, hate to imagine where they would be right now without the quality of pitching the Reds have gotten recently.

I'm almost to the point where I hope the Reds lose every single game. Thats the only way you're going to force the front office to do something different. Fans have stopped going to the games. Last Monday set an all-time low for attendance at Great American ballpark.

They would be approximately in the same position that they are already in, dead last in the NL Central.

One would think the Reds are bound to make player moves this week, can't see even this FO continuing with status quo. Have to shake things up. If I were Newman, Senzel, Vosler, Maile I wouldn't get too comfortable.

I don't see this Front Office having the gumption to call up any immediate impact prospect until sometime in June at the earliest or post trade deadline. They're content riding this thing out no matter how ugly it gets. It is an ownership group that wants to hang a banner for splitting a series on the road vs the Braves last season.

Players come and go but this Reds President/COO has no such worry. He'll always have a front office job.

EDC is batting about .077 for the Bats in limited at bats so far. No way he gets called up anytime soon. He was 0-5 today striking out 3 times. What's the story on catcher Chucky Robinson? He was four for four today with the Bats, and batting .447

No, don't see an EDLC call up. He's having a ST redo as is. Same with CES, give them 6-8 AAA games. But I see Reynolds, Chucky, McClain and either Hopkins or Ramos call up this week...at least. Maile and Newman released and Senzel/Vosler sent down for starters, wouldn't unpack from the road trip if I were those guys.
