Reds

Couple of days ago Reds sent down a guy hitting .600 with like 5 HRs/12 RBIs this Spring, immediate lineup for the next game had 3 guys playing the position the guy they sent down playing with a combined BA of .103.

Yesterday they send down a RHP who has a Spring ERA of 0.00, zero, nada, zilch....while keeping guys who have been bombed from pillar to post with ERAs that resemble a zip code. This is how you build a 100 loss team folks.

Sending down CES when he was hitting over .600, on a not so small sample size either, made zero sense. He was the most consistent hitter in camp. I don't care if he "needed more practice at 1B". HE'S HITTING F-ING .600!!! YOU LET HIM LEARN ON THE JOB!! I'll take a couple of errors at 1b to get his bat in the lineup. Wanna ruin a young guys confidence? That's how you do it.

Might be a nice young exciting lineup for the Louisville Bats for a change this year

If it made sense, the Reds are certainly are not going to do it. Nothing the Reds have done so far should come as a shock to any of you all. It's a franchise that always lacks gumption and will look for any excuse to delay the future. Did you all really think this FO was going to call up ELDC, CES, McLain, Marte or Andrew Abbott? Not a chance in hell. Enjoy Jose Barrero, Weaver & Senzel. As long as players like them with no future in this organization are playing in Cincinnati the top prospects are going to be kept down. There is too much depth at SS to keep Barrero around and he needs to look at it as if he's playing for another team. SS is McLain or ELDC's to lose in the long term future. Better off for both him & Cincinnati. I don't even want to fathom the prospects not producing more than what Senzel & Barrero have given Cincinnati.

Said it before, if Judge/Acuna were in the Reds organization they'd be looking forward to breaking into High A this summer. By slow dragging these prospects they're assuring they'll be playing their best baseball for another organization in the future.

Still think they should trade India, give 2B to McClain. India is a huge defensive liability and his hitting has faded dramatically. Also should consider trading Diaz. Guy is a very promising young pitcher but the Reds won't win over 70 games with him. With injury to his brother Diaz would be a hot commodity. If you're going to build then by god build and not with hasbeen/neverwas talent.

Good 7-1 win over the Guardians.

Ashcraft 4 scoreless innings, 5 K's. Really great to see coming off a good game on Sunday. Scoreless innings by Sousa, Law, Strickland & Farmer. Kuhnel 1 run.

Barrero RBI Double, RBI Triple. India 2 RBI singles. Stephenson 2 hits, RBI. Fraley 2-run home run.

Another 7-1 win. Today vs Oakland. Brought some names back in the lineup with Marte, Duarte & McGarry. Austin Romine released.

Williamson 4 innings, 1 run. Duarte, Sanmartin, Young, Gibaut & Norris scoreless innings.

Fairchild 2 RBIs, BB, home run, RBI double, Marte 3 hits, RBI Double, RBI single, Vosler 2 hits, McGarry 3 hits, 2 RBI singles.

2 players cut like 2 weeks ago, Marte/McGarry, with 6 of the team's 12 hits. Duarte, cut earlier this week, with another scoreless IP, still with ZERO ERA.

4-3 Brewers over Reds. Steer 3 hits. Stephens RBI single, India double, home run. Ramos home run. Cessa 3 innings 2 runs, Solomon got the loss giving up 2 runs. Scoreless innings by Law, Strickland, Kuhnel, Sousa & Busenitz.

Reds OF needs rebuilding, an area the FO failed to accomplish this past off season. Problem on this pick is it'll take Cincy 5 years to move him thru the system.
Looks like Weaver won't be ready for the start of the season. Who in the hell saw that coming? Minor 2.0 but worse.

Thought Weaver was a bizarre choice by the FO. Guy had very limited IPs the past few years, hardly an innings eater.
I agree. Really wanted Cueto. One other guy that always intrigued me was Dylan Bundy. 2 years removed from being in the Top 10 of votes for the AL Cy Young still sitting out there. His production is volatile and struggled to keep the ball in the park last year which would definitely be a problem at GABP. Toronto is considering him. From purely the standpoint of adding an innings eater I liked the thought. Could flip him to a team at the deadline for a decent prospect.

Looks like Cessa/Williamson....then Chase Anderson. Wow.

What's up with Lodolo? Missed a start last week. Re Lodolo, never mind...he's scheduled today(Mon).

Interesting stat I just saw on the graphic in the Reds game from August 16th through end of last season, Friedly slugging pct .533 4th highest in the NL, OPS .888 5th in NL with 6 doubles, 8 HR. Stole a base just now and has had a fair spring training. Still want Will Benson over him. I'm sure the Reds trade Myers at the deadline and will be room for them to accommodate both or hopefully bring up McGarry at some point this year.

The Reds can still get them all in the lineup on a regular basis. When Stephenson is catching, Votto will get more DH at-bats than ever as he works back and at his age. Myers plays quite a bit at 1B so he can be shifted from RF to 1B, 3 OF spots left on those days for Friedl, Fraley & Benson. In favor of dropping Votto in the order until he proves to be consistent enough at the plate. Can't afford another .210 hitter that high in the lineup. Batting 2nd today.

Reds leading LA 10- 0 in the bottom of the 6th. Lodolo 6 Innings, three hits eight strikeouts.

I like the optimism but only time will tell how soon ELDC gets called up.

Re Barrero, it's so Cincy that the FO would wait to essentially the last week of ST to make that move. Pissed away winter ball opportunity for the shift. SMH.

Was thinking one of two things with Barrero/EDLC. one was that they were trying to build up Barerro for deadline trade value to bring up EDLC. The other was one of them would have to change positions eventually. looks like Barrero is it.

Maybe. To his credit, Barrero has quietly had a good ST but you have to think EDLC is the future. Barrero has big time talent, maybe even 25/80 HR/RBI talent. CF would be a nice position, hopefully he can make the move. I like Benson there too(possibly RF?), lefty bat with speed/good arm....and he's still just 24. Looking way down the road, Almonte and Confiden give hope of forming a good OF.

I agree, see Benson as the RF eventually and hope the Reds give every chance Senzel has had to change positions in CF for Barrero so that there is room for the SS prospects like ELDC, etc to come.

If Barrero can be the Reds version of Didi Gregorious for this team matching what Didi put up in his prime, it bodes well for Cincinnati and about all anyone can ask for. Anymore is just gravy and we should all want Barrero to succeed here. Give the Reds multiple options and some depth is always a good problem. Hope he can carry this spring over into the regular season. Barrero, Benson and maybe Friedl could be an x-factor for the Reds this year. I expect Fraley will have a decent season and then Steer at 3B as well. Just get these guys going before the end of 2023 and go into 2024 with a clean slate to start moving forward.

Would it have been better to move EDLC to CF since he’s down at AAA to start the season? Let him learn down there for a couple of months as an everyday guy out there and leave Barrero alone at SS? Isn’t Barrero arguably the better defender of the two at SS?

Probably so. Seems like everyone is questioning what the Reds are going to do with so many options at SS now that they aren't far off from the MLB level and the right thing to do IMO would be to start the transition while already in the minors. Barrero definitely has the reputation of being an excellent defensive shortstop and I still see him playing at SS most days to start the year even with the defensive replacement at CF yesterday. The timing of the move for Jose to CF in the last week of ST is strange though it's good to see than not at all. McLain logged 58 games in the outfield between UCLA & the Cape Cod League. One would think the transition would be much easier for him.

I have to think Barrero will be an excellent defensive CF if thats the move they make. Great defense relies a lot on instinct, and that's something good defensive players have. It's what made Billy Hamilton an excellent defensive CF. It didn't take long for Billy Hamilton to take to that position, hopefully it's the same (but with a better bat) for Barrero.

Sooner or later they're going to have to settle on who stays and who goes with their plethora of SS and 3B prospects. I can see a couple of them being moved in a year or two, hopefully to land an experienced inning eating pitcher or two for the middle of the rotation, when they get to the point they want to try and compete for playoff run again.

LOL. What am I thinking, this is the Reds we're talking about.

With the ones the Reds won't be able to keep, need to go trade for a young catcher or outfielder with team control. They'll likely trade them off for a rental they can't afford to keep who will be gone in a year or two which is about as long as any window lasts for the Reds to compete before the next inevitable fire sale. So then you would have not only had to trade off the players you built around at the MLB level, the rental and prospects in the system. If the Reds bring in veteran leadership, needs to be cheap players like Myers because the Reds bet bet is to stick with the young talent within the farm system.

Should have signed Cueto over Luke Weaver. Luke is anything but an 'innings eater' and has pitched over 60 innings 1 time since 2019.

FO has to evaluate this signing and realize that $2 million spent to sign him and the Reds are in the same position they are in with the starting rotation than they are without him before the signing due to the injury. It's delusional to all of a sudden believe he was going to be a work horse just because he puts on a Reds uniform and they need him to be. Once you start the season it will be Cessa, Williamson and maybe Overton & Anderson. Luke is just in the way by the time he's healthy in the way of the other young prospects like Stoudt at 25 needs to have a good season and make his MLB debut.
