I don't see the Reds going back to the clean cut, no facial hair policy of the old days with Francona. When you go back to his old teams, they had Johnny Damon, Bronson Arroyo & Manny Ramirez with the long hair in Boston.I doubt it will happen, but hopefully Francona implements some professionalism in terms of uniforms and appearance. Lose the long hair, man buns, bandanas, and Elly's clown outfit.
Color me shocked Bowden is as good of a reporter as he was a GM. We'll see how good of a pitcher Singer is in GABP, but it seems like a good deal for the Reds getting another arm that has ML experience with all of the injuries this team has had in the rotation recently. Better than going after the $25 million injury-prone Sonny Gray for another pitcher in their mid-30s.The India Royals trade appears to be off according to Jim Bowden. Says Brady Singer was the backup plan for Nick Martinez if he signed elsewhere. This would have been a good trade for Cincinnati getting Singer. He would have been much cheaper and gave them 2 years of team control. Reds should have dumped someone else off than the team leader in .OBP, but it would have been a fair trade. Plenty of infield prospects to move. Now that it is dead, they best be looking to trade for a real outfielder instead of a bunch of guys who are 4th/5th outfielders at best.

Really? I had not heard.Looks like India got traded tonight.
Just saw it on ESPN ticker.Really? I had not heard.
Keeping my expectations tempered with the injury-prone McLain
Fair enough. But that is rich coming from you who wouldn't even give Elly De La Cruz a month before shipping him back to Louisville. I bet you shit your pants that anyone would vote for him in the NL MVP race with the 8th most for the NL MVP 1 1/2 years into his career. Contrary to any of your delusions about him, he is one of the top players in the National League. Why don't you let the guy play a few seasons before slapping this premature label on him.
LOL. I'm sure you already tweeted Sadak to tell him how much of a joke EDLC receiving MVP votes was, right MarkKY58521944?The HOF SS is now 6 for his last 35 w/ 14 K's (mirrors his excellence of a year ago)
Everyone got excited over a 2 week stretch and Sadak screaming, but that balloon burst w/ the quickness as expected. He simply isn't good enough on a consistent basis, and is very bad for long stretches.
When your best player is 5'8; 190 lbs. and is out until August, then you have a problem.
I think he will be a good addition as a mentor and a younger coach who was in the game not too long ago. World Series Champion, a lot of postseason experience. He was an offensive catcher in his prime hitting for a lot of power. Been a coach within the NL Central the previous 4 years with the Cubs. I do like Brad Mills coming back to baseball and work with Francona as the bench coach here. Also, saw where Jose Barrero is getting a chance with St. Louis now.Former Chicago Cubs coach joins a suddenly daunting Cincinnati Reds organization

Small market teams won't compete for World Series Championships in the current landscape of MLB as long as this continues. MLBPA will never allow for a salary cap like the NBA and NFL and are the players agree to the deferred provisions in the collective bargaining agreement. Teams like LA & NYY scoff at the Competitive Balance Tax and are just fine paying a luxury tax, while the Dodgers continue to exploit the system to defer contracts on multiple star players. Maybe take top round draft pick away of the next MLB Draft for teams that are deferring outrageous amounts of money on these contracts.Blake Snell just signed for 5 years, $182 million to the Dodgers and of course some of the money will be deferred. I know the Reds tried this with Griffey and the worst-case scenario of winning absolutely nothing happened. Just finished paying out Griffey this year. Not the Castellini's fault as this deal took place under Carl Lindner. Getting burned like that makes me never want to see the Reds do something like this again. However, I wonder if other teams are going to start doing this more often to even have a snowball's chance in hell at competing unless rules are ever implemented to limit deferred contracts per team.
I absolutely hate it. It is bullshit that the Dodgers deferred Teoscar Hernandez last year on a 1-year deal, now Snell and deferred $68 million of Shohei Ohtani's $70 million per year. Imagine if Juan Soto would agree to do the same with them as they are one of the teams that have presented a contract offer to him. If teams are going to do this, should be required to pay a large percentage of the annual salary of the contract rather than paying a league MVP a base salary of $2 million every year until 2034. Small market teams will never have a chance as long as this keeps happening.
Kikuchi got 3/63M with Anaheim. If that’s the starter market for a mid-rotation guy, the Martinez 1 year QO and Singer trade sounds better and better imo
No it’s not, the Homer Bailey contract was far worse. 1 year deals don’t hurt you that much if the player does badly. And if he’s doing well and the team is doing badly, he’s easy to trade at the deadlinePaying Martinez $21M is the worst contract in recent Reds memory.
Mike Moustakis says hello.Paying Martinez $21M is the worst contract in recent Reds memory.
LOL, no. Great human being, had some very good years, great sense of humor, but he's got some things that will give the rebuilding Reds pause.Interesting hire. I like it. Still hoping they bring in Votto for some role within the organization.
Reds Hire Mike Napoli
The Reds have hired Mike Napoli for an unspecified role within the organization, WEEI's Rob Bradford reports (Bluesky link). Napoli …www.mlbtraderumors.com
Your evidence for this is based on what? Elaborate on the details of those "things" you are alluding to. Krall has already said the team has reached out to Joey about finding him a role in the organization. Votto has a high baseball IQ and his intelligence expands outside of baseball. He has taken on learning different languages to communicate and get to know his international teammates which would be very beneficial in coaching with players from all different nationalities in the game. Multiple players have praised his abilities to help them get through slumps offering his insight on hitting. The Reds coaching staff has already been filled so any role as an advisor/guest instructor in ST will not hinder the development of this team in any way as you claim.LOL, no. Everyone is the worst contract and a horrible player on the Reds according to him. Harps on his career numbers in Texas and going to Japan while accusing others of using numbers from baseball reference to formulate their opinions. Far be it someone actually improves as Martinez has. A one year deal won't kill the Reds long-term rebuilding phase when Cincinnati needs pitchers who are durable and have proved to pitch well in GABP as he did this year. Will never give an ounce of praise to anyone. No it’s not, the Homer Bailey contract was far worse. 1 year deals don’t hurt you that much if the player does badly. Mike Moustakis contract comes to mind as well. yeeks!Everyone is the worst contract and a horrible player on the Reds according to him. Granted not a lot of positivity was warranted last year, but the strides Hunter Greene made in 2024 clearly is a positive sign going forward that any rational Reds fan has to acknowledge. Stephenson won't ever be Bench or Barnhart behind the plate. However you aren't going to find many catchers that hit for power and aren't a liability on offense. His durability lasting all season was needed due to the lack of production behind him with Maile & Wynns. Giving Shogo a 3 year, $21 million contract was another bad contract signing by the Reds in recent years. Didn't even last half of that contract in a Reds uniform. Gone in 1 year, 2 months of regular season play.
Not always the case. Krall has managed to sign Nick Castellanos when he has stated the Reds have had payroll flexibility in the offseason going into 2020 the last time they were looking to contend. Dumped Homer Bailey and brought in Yasiel Puig who had a great arm, 22 HR & 61 RBIs before the Bauer trade at the deadline in 2019. From the article above at the Winter Meetings.^Winker is par for the Reds course though - free agents looking for their 3rd or 4th contract who are the downhill backside of their career
Signing Profar coming off an All-Star season hitting 24 HRs, 85 RBIs & 94 runs scored playing his home games in Petco Park. I see no reason why the Reds could not afford to bring him in. He'll make more than his $1 million with $1.5 million in incentives-based contract in 2024, but no way he signs for anywhere close to Teoscar Hernandez who would be a huge boost to the lineup. He will be more expensive with the competition on the free agent market for his services. Regardless, they have the means to move infield prospects and some of these young arms recently drafted out of College Baseball that would make the rebuild faster for other teams that might entice them more to trade a star outfielder.Nick Krall Sheds Light on Reds' Offseason Plan to Bolster Roster
Will the Reds make a significant addition to their lineup?www.si.com
Profar is not a RF. A cheap alternative with mediocre numbers for his whole career coming off his best season and there is no guarantee he duplicates it regardless what park he plays in. That would only add to the depth of players that are either in LF now with Steer or should be in LF like Fraley who is a serviceable RF with a solid bat. He won't fix the biggest need on this team to find themselves a RF that hits and not a liability on defense.Signing Profar coming off an All-Star season hitting 24 HRs, 85 RBIs & 94 runs scored playing his home games in Petco Park. There are plenty of players better than Profar, but you need to be realistic on Reds terms for the caliber of players they bring in. Juan Soto is never going to be a Red. Anthony Santander & Teoscar Hernandez would be nice but not holding my breath. Profar would not set the Reds back and is a trade piece at the deadline if the Reds are below .500. If the Reds spend on a player that who can play RF, someone likely is Michael Conforto who I wanted a couple years back. Finding a player that is durable, can hit and solve the poor defense the Reds have been plagued by is who the Reds should be targeting.Profar is not a RF. The FO has to start utilizing the trade market for players that wouldn't otherwise be able to afford with prospects that can be moved. He is a gamble with entire seasons in his prime hitting .218, .227 and the low .240s. If anything gets done, it will be in the offseason. Krall unless it is through a fire sale is not active act the trade deadline. Sam Moll two years ago was the only noteworthy addition in 2023 for a team that lead the NL Central going into August.
