There are plenty of players better than Profar, but you need to be realistic on Reds terms for the caliber of players they bring in. Juan Soto is never going to be a Red. Anthony Santander & Teoscar Hernandez would be nice but not holding my breath. Profar would not set the Reds back and is a trade piece at the deadline if the Reds are below .500. If the Reds spend on a player that who can play RF, someone likely is Michael Conforto who I wanted a couple years back. Finding a player that is durable, can hit and solve the poor defense the Reds have been plagued by is who the Reds should be targeting.

There should be no excuses when it comes to signing the next tier of stars below players like Soto. The A's while in the middle of a relocation are trying to compete. Looked much better in the 2nd half including in the series vs the Reds and are fast tracking their rebuild signing Luis Severino to a 3 year, $67 million deal for a team that spends less than Cincinnati.

The Reds must increase their budget similar to Kansas City last offseason and Oakland currently to have a chance at the postseason like KC did in a massive one year turnaround. This defeatist mindset Reds fans have is something I don't understand to let the franchise off the hook, make excuses settling for lesser players and rationalize being cheap skates when they have a deep farm system to make nearly any move they want. The most money off the books in decades without the contracts of Griffey, Homer, Votto and Moustakas.

Whether fans want to believe it or not, there is still a talented young core of players on this roster and one of the best managers in the past 20 years coming to town to develop them. People are quick to forget the Reds already went against there norms hiring a veteran manager like Terry Francona who I said from the night Bell was fired he is the right man for the job. Francona deserves a chance to work with these guys first and a star player or two on the trade market to expedite the process isn't unrealistic.

Just let the offseason play out. There will be plenty of time to bitch and moan about what the Reds did or didn't do if things don't work out next year.

There are two impact outfield free agents left on the board with Hernandez and Santander. Heard the rumors of Hernandez. Will believe it when I see it. Like you said more talk than anything. If it comes down to it, Joc Pederson coming off a good season in Arizona with his LH power in GABP. Other options like Eloy Jimenez (injury-plagued), Profar.

After that it steps way down with the only ones left worth even mentioning are Verdugo, Grichuk, Winker, Austin Hays or Max Kepler though none of them should be viewed as upgrades. Just cheap stop gaps/platoon players.

FO better be busy getting a deal done on the trade market for an outfielder. It is their best shot at improving it legitimately.

Solano move makes absolutely no sense. Kyle Farmer 2.0. We need frigging outfielders. We've got an infield. Can't believe they're talking about putting Barrero in OF. He's an elite SS defensively. His bat is the issue. Why the hell do you force him into the lineup by putting f him there when we NEED a SS. Kyle Farmer is not the year long answer.

We sign Mike Minor and owe him $10 mil.....the same price we decided we couldn't pay Wade Miley and let him walk for nothing. You can't make this shit up at this point.

I went back to read some of the early pages of this thread for the hell of it with posts like this describing issues still wrong with the Reds organization. Here we were then talking about Cincinnati needing outfielders due to the dismantling of the team from the fire sale after 2021 when they lost two NL All-Star Starting Outfielders. Going into 2025, this organization has yet to replace the two they lost back then.

Seattle always had interest in India and reportedly even still did this offseason. Wish the Reds would have traded India for a legitimate ace like Castillo bringing him back and give Seattle someone they want as well as shipping Marte back where he came from. Singer is a quality pitcher, but Castillo is a difference maker if you are aiming to contend. When the Reds can afford to give Martinez $21 million, they could have traded for Castillo making $24 million and signed through 2028 with more team control obviously than a pitcher signed to a 1-year qualifying offer. Depending on the terms of the deal on who got traded, that number could have been negotiated for less. Castillo now has postseason experience under his belt, and we already know he can pitch in GABP. Reds claiming they were in on Garrett Crochet instead of using their best assets to land a star outfielder as the main priority. This is all just another example of bad baseball business by the Reds front office.

Now they are turning their attention to adding the expensive, overrated Nick Pivetta who is a fly ball pitcher when that money could go towards either contract extensions, Teoscar Hernandez or gone to sign outfielders they previously missed on. They already re-signed Martinez and traded for Singer. Signing a 6-12 pitcher in Pivetta with a career 4.76 ERA would be such a Reds move to piss money down the drain. Anything to deflect the real needs of this team going after an outfielder that can hit and improve the defense. Honestly can't say I am surprised. For every step forward they take hiring Terry Francona, they take two steps backwards with the effort so far to improve the weak lineup.

The winter meetings have come and gone and the Reds made zero moves. Not a shocker at all. As always a lot of talk and no action. I hope they can get something done to improve the offense.

So much for the blowhards that really tried to talk up the Reds going after Kyle Tucker. Now they get to deal with him in the NL Central for the Cubs. This FO is going to try to sell us on another washed up Wil Myers past his prime which was never that great to begin with. That is exactly where this is headed. They deserve to get fleeced by the White Sox for Luis Robert the way they have dicked off all offseason when it comes to improving the outfield.
