Reds

Held a 3-2 lead in the top of the 9th. Strickland shits the bed blowing another save & Moretta finished the job giving up 5 runs in the 10th. Way to go Reds, Way to Go!!

Earth to Reds bullpen: STAY OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE PLATE!! In and out, up and down is the way to be a winner. Of course, those guys know that but it's very hard to do for most on a consistent basis. But it's a solid goal to work toward. For those guys in the pen it's a tough albatross to wear around your neck...."Reds Bullpen" is a career killer.

Loving me some Brandon Drury.

The Drury Flurry is real boys!!!!
Should be the Reds All-Star and likely a trade candidate. It's been fun watching him this season and hope he brings a decent return if dealt. I would shit can Moose, eat the salary to keep Drury and be gone of the dead weight. Drury has done more in 3 months than Moustakas has done in 2 1/2 years.

I hate us trading away guys because I don't ever trust Krall to get a solid haul for the future. For every Luis Castillo we get a thousand [insert random bum name here]

I agree with you about Moose. Is Drury possibly playing above his head like Farmer was for a bit? Maybe. But I'd rather gamble on keeping a solid guy around and under a controllable contract. Moose money is spent...accept it, eat it, and move on.

The fact that Bell is still leading this disaster is asinine.
Yeah, I get it but Sparky couldn't win with this bunch of no-talents. FO has really hamstrung this team.

Dayton only team in the organization above .500 so not a lot of talent top to bottom.

They weren't hamstrung at all. They didn't win before either.

A change in mngmt can often create a new energy, spark, etc, not to mention the ability to see how the team/lineup can be changed......even with what you have.

If you can't see how badly the Reds FO has put this team at a competitive disadvantage then I don't know what to tell you.

Absolutely agree. We are in a bind because of the FO. Who hired Bell? The Castellini regime. Who drafted and signed all of these players? The front office. Clear as day where the problem is. It's a glorified AAA team and while David Bell should have never been hired, firing him now as the scapegoat is just pussy footing around by the FO without realizing the issue at hand frivolously handing out lucrative contracts to the wrong players that make it impossible to weather the storm during in a rebuild. In the end, someone will fall on the sword and Bell is a pawn in the game. Should fire Jockstrap, Dick Williams & Krall making a real statement.

Completely agree in the lack of trust in the FO to maximize the return on a Drury, Castillo or Mahle. With the Frankie Montas injury, Castillo's demand skyrocketed and the Reds should hold all the leverage here. Unfortunately we have some inept goons calling the shots.

The career numbers would suggest guys like Overton & Drury are playing above their head which begs the question, is it real and sustainable long term? Or sell high? Unfortunately Overton got hurt and could have been an interesting trade candidate. Hopefully upon his return he is close to what he was giving the Reds before.

At this point, I'd be shocked if Drury is not the Reds All-Star and that label attached to his name will earn him some money this offseason or a good return if the Reds were to play their cards right. Definitely lack the faith in them to make the right trades though.

Farmer is close to the same player as he was last year which is nice to have on a team. His batting average is higher than it was this time last year, on pace for more RBIs though he likely isn't getting 16 home runs at this pace. Perhaps Drury is a late bloomer like Farmer. Both are solid contributors but are better off on a winning team than in a rebuild at their age.

20th balk-off in MLB since 1920. They're almost as rare as unassisted triple plays - 15 of those.

A 4.23 ERA this season with a 7.44 ERA in 2021 pitching in Independent Baseball. Where in the hell do they get these guys from? May as well coax Sam LeCure out of retirement..

I’m not seeing that as a balk. No intent to deceive the batter and no start and stop action. Basically looked like he was asking for new signs?

Tend to agree. He was asking for new signs or was adding or subtracting from signs he was given IMO.

Brandon Drury got snubbed. Complete and utter bullshit!! Happy for Castillo and it should only help his trade value though Drury has played great all-season!

Castillo making a showcase start vs NYY Thursday.

Re Drury, unfortunate but it's what happens when a guy plays on a really bad team.

I'm aware of that and didn't expect the NL roster to have 3 or 4 Reds but Brandon is more deserving than Castillo who missed a month. The decision to put Castillo had more to do with the need for quality pitchers and Drury is screwed after having a career year. Each team gets 1 representative, this one belonged to Drury. Watch Cincinnati's future representative be Votto in the years to come with the new commissioners pick in the legends spot.

Castillo is what he is at this point and I'm less concerned about what an All-Star nod does for Castillo's trade value as it couldn't be any higher right now. Everyone knows he is a great pitcher and the most sought after arm at the deadline. When the Reds trade Brandon, it would have been great to sell high on an 'All-Star' Drury despite his overall career numbers being disappointing. In that regard, it sucks for both Brandon & the Reds. Being an All-Star would have benefited him in negotiations for his next contract and trade stock this year.

Went thru the Reds minor league system looking for hitters and.....OUCH! Outside of De La Cruz there's not much happening with young hitters. Guys like Barrero, hitting under .200 in AAA, McClain, Cerda, Hendrix and some others are in the .220-.240 range. Couple had double figures in HRs but BA just isn't there. Reds current roster is stuffed with .240-.260 hitters. Doesn't look like much help on the horizon after De La Cruz.

Good job Reds! Win Game 1 and comeback off an All-Star closer, Gerrit Cole pitching. Might stand a snowball's chance in hell with Castillo pitching Thursday. SOL with Minor tomorrow. Regardless, enjoying tonight's win and the few bright spots we can celebrate this season!

I half think Castillo was selected over Drury so that prospective suitors can get a better look at him in person. An audition of sorts. Would not be surprised if he is traded over the break. Thursday could possibly be his last game as a Red. Hope it's not.

He's being auditioned Thursday vs NYY and yes, I think that'll be his last Cincy start.

If that is the reasoning behind Castillo over Drury as the Reds All-Star representative that is sad.

Nick Senzel hitting an even .300 over his past 30 games! Hopefully it's a sign he's going to turn the corner. Regardless I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

Unfortunately Senzel's is nothing more than a singles hitter, very limited doubles/HR power. Take a look in another month and see where he is. Off-season trade likely.

You can look at it however you want and it has been a month of solid production. Like I said, going to enjoy it while it lasts. It's all we got in a season like this.. If he is only a 'singles hitter' fine by me if he puts the ball in play consistently and set the deck in the future for hitters to drive him in.

Senzel was a Top 5 pick, #2 overall in '16. Those guys are typically ML All-Stars who can be expected to hit 20+ HRs, 30+ doubles, have 80+ RBIs, and hit .280-.300. Senzel has never been anything like that, never will. Reds continue to get that kind of "production" out of top draft picks and they'll never be anything more than we're seeing. But you're right...enjoy it while we can because it won't last long.
