If Arizona is swept, the Reds still can get in should Cincinnati win out since the Reds own the tiebreaker over them & Chicago. Verlander going for HOU tomorrow vs Arizona and then anything can happen on the final day like the crazy day in 2011.
Feels weird to be cheering for them but go Stros indeed! Hopefully Dusty can throw his old team a bone and Cincinnati do their part to make it happen. They have a tight race up 1 in the final AL Wild Card spot.

15-6 loss officially eliminates the Reds. Cincinnati absolutely must get an ace and add multiple legitimate setup man relievers this offseason. Phillips needs to go back to the minors next season, he is not ready. It will be a mistake to go into next season thinking Greene, Ashcraft & Lodolo with Abbott & Williamson are all going to make it through the 2024 season without missing starts which would put Cincinnati in the same position they are in now coming up short. What we've learned so far from Greene, Ashcraft & Lodolo is you have to build your team around an ace ahead of them because they are injury prone.
Joe Boyle took a no-hitter into the 7th inning tonight. Who in the hell would have thought he would be in MLB this year? Goes to show Krall doesn't win every trade especially with Dauri Moreta clearly mocking the Reds last weekend after giving up on him so soon in exchange for that slugger Kevin Newman.
It is ridiculous to be handing out extensions and promotions to management like they're candy. Fact of the matter is Krall has been the GM since 2018, Bell the manager since 2019 and have committed to them going forward without so much as 1 postseason win. This is an unacceptable standard in Cincinnati to not wait until the Reds win something that matters making these guys earn their contracts before rewarding them with extensions. Not talking about the players here but management. I realize some players will need extensions ahead of time to build for a future but this is now 2 of 3 winning seasons without a postseason when making it next year is never guaranteed. The message of telling us all to wait until next year just does not resonate with Reds fans. Next year better be a postseason run. You don't hang banners for .500 seasons, top rated farm systems or how much money saved cutting payroll.
Moll has been good for the Reds but it simply was not enough of an effort by the front office to add the players they needed. Krall one week say we're buyers, built up some money and the next week the usual Reds way being cheap skates. Here was a chance to add a veteran pitcher to stabilize the rotation and fill the void the Reds had since the start of the season with injuries or some just not living up to the standard needed to be a Major League caliber starter. Phillips became the first starting pitcher in MLB history to start a game off with 12 consecutive balls, no outs and get pulled. Can't have these opener strategy games further taxing the bullpen in 2024.
Reds wouldn't have done anything if they made the playoffs anyways so best they didn't get a bid.
I disagree with that line of thinking. Like I said to another poster on here last week, postseason appearances don't come every year for Cincinnati so you don't take them for granted around here. Would have gladly been a Wild Card team and take that momentum going into 2024.
I said a couple weeks ago and multiple times all year that they need to move the depth of infield prospects that are going to be blocked by the current ones not going anywhere and get a starter that has been through the fires, won't get rattled and be the difference maker on this young team. Can't keep everyone and with the stockpiled farm system, the Reds can make this kind of trade without breaking the bank nor depleting the farm system. Time for Krall to earn that new contract this winter. Some people are going to say trade India but what kind of ace are you going to get for a .240 hitter dealing with plantar fasciitis right now? It is impacting his production and literally watching him favor that foot rounding the bases. Selling low on him and best let him get healthy if you are going to maximize his trade value.

It will take more than just getting him, Lodolo so forth healthy. They will need to consistently produce across the board with a lot to prove before they are coveted trade pieces.
Won't happen w/ this same bunch, inc. Bell. Too many holes in the lineup and that told on them the entire second half of the year.
It most definitely can happen. Despite all of the adversity, things we all complained about all season long it took the rest of the league until the final weekend before the Reds were officially eliminated but of course you will probably say they were eliminated before the start of the season just like you are here about 2024 and haven't even gotten there yet.

It's absolutely ridiculous to sell the Reds short playing without a full deck all season and these prospects gained valuable experience in 2023 going into 2024. People lack perspective on just how far this team came after losing 100 games to have a winning season again. No, it's not the 'standard' to just finish .500 or better but if you lack the foresight to see the bigger picture well you are just irrational or not a fan to begin with.

I'm the one counting out a team before the previous season has officially concluded. I know the Reds can do better and fully expect they will so long as they go into next season healthy.
Most veteran players have a feel for which ump has rabbit ears or which has a little longer fuse. Makes me wonder if Votto didn't want to get thrown out.
Not buying it. Kind of with Welsh on this one and Joey should have been more aware of the situation. I mean it is your last damn game and vintage Votto losing his cool by getting ejected and shortchanging his fans one last time at watching him play. Literally arguing balls and strikes in a meaningless game in likely your last MLB game.
It will happen and I have a complete second half of the season to support this.

~They had sat or sent down EDLC. He crushed the team for 2 months in the 3/4 spot. ANYONE with a pulse could have hit .250 at SS for 2 months instead of being the worst player in baseball.
~Bell had went with a set lineup instead of his constant platoon system nonsense.
~They acquired a SP or two at the trade hour. Plenty of expendables to get rid of.

Interesting in the top of the 9th down a run that Bell lets both Senzel and Fairchild bat against the right hander with both the tying and go-ahead runs on base. The lefty/righty scenario suddenly didn't matter with Friedl and Fraley on the bench.
Well, all in all it was a fun season. Shame we couldn't clinch a playoff berth but I'm looking forward to 2024.
Senzel had to have something on someone! There was absolutely no reason he got as many at bats as he did down the stretch.
But bottom line, the arms ran out of gas. Diaz was not the same after the all star break. The Reds in my opinion need an experienced starter and another reliever and a guy capable of hitting 30 HRs.

I'm hoping the Reds can find some dumb soul who can take Senzel off their hands but in case they can't....Earth to Bell: Never, ever let Senzel face a RHP.
The Reds won't need to pawn Senzel off on some other club. Can simply nontender him if they choose to do so.
