Reds

Games are now at a premium, can't miss chances to put distance between yourself and others.
I know, just not sure what the purpose of stating the obvious was all about that the Reds did not gain ground after a losing yesterday. Can nitpick any point of the season as each game matters and dropping 2 of 3 at home to the Cardinals, swept to the Nats at home was as bad as any moment to gain pivotal ground vs scrubs.

Looks like the Reds just conceded this one. So tell me what's the logic of throwing two relievers out there the first two innings then bringing in Lively for 4+? Why not just give Lively the start?
Honestly, I have seen enough from Lively that I do not want him apart of the starting rotation next year. If the Reds have plans for him to be a long man out of the bullpen, that's fine. Phillips needs more seasoning at AAA. Roll with Greene, Ashcraft, Abbott, Williamson, Lodolo for 5 starters if all are healthy.

The Reds are set with infielders, see what top prospects like Arroyo & Stewart can fetch on the open market as far as an ace with team control, reliable, eats innings and be the difference maker on a young pitching staff that can mentor these guys. Even with the rotation above, there are still question marks about the durability of Lodolo & Greene and will the rookies take the next leap forward in 2024? Get a front line ace that has been through the fires of a postseason run if you are serious. Reds will never be big free agent spenders to go out and sign that guy without having to use the farm system.

As of now, there are going to be a bunch of top infield prospects within a year or two of reaching MLB that will be blocked. Like Dan O'Dowd says, former GM and a analyst on MLB Network, prospects aren't just for building up your team but to make the necessary trades as well to fill holes too.

And no CES/EDLC tonight. CES started 2 days ago and had 2 hits, guess that's not good enough for Bell. Starting to wonder if Bell's serious about trying to get into a playoff spot.

I think from a pitching standpoint, today was just an assertion of the problems they are facing in regards to injuries to the staff. The lineup was just stupidity though.
These are all reasons for bringing in a dependable veteran pitcher. No one knows from year to year what the next season will bring. While on paper the Reds may look deep in the rotation and Ashcraft, Greene & Lodolo were dubbed the 'Big 3', all of them have had their struggles and injuries again this year. All apart of the development process which is why adding a veteran pitcher is vital. Everyone here wanted an innings eater over the offseason. Reds had their chances to add throughout this season when everyone saw this rotation isn't as deep as those wanted to believe to start this year.

Luke Weaver is a joke and now on his 2nd team since leaving the Reds. The Reds had no plan when they settled on Cessa & Overton to fill the 4-5 spots initially. Stoudt has played his way out of the starting rotation equation. I don't quite think Phillips or Richardson are ready just yet and need to pitch deeper into games to trust them with a rotation spot. Abbott has been the most consistent pitcher the Reds have and Williamson has been solid for the most part. Lively has had his moments of brilliance, other times not so much.

Marte starting at SS over EDLC. Senzel at 3B, 2nd in the lineup. Once again treating a subpar lefty pitcher as if it's Kershaw or the Big Unit on the mound.

The rough month of April is going to haunt this team as much as anything.

Mets start a lefty and Bell goes batshit crazy, benches his speed and power hitters except for Steer. Showalter must be laughing to himself.

It's baffling for sure, I'm sure piss rolled down their leg once they saw it. When you look at the Mets lineup, Alonso 44 HR & 109 RBIs, Lindor 26 & 87, Nimmo 23 & 67. Reds best power threats are Steer & Renfroe while CES & Fraley on the bench. I overlooked earlier Friedl dropped to 7th also. I suppose India isn't the worst to bat leadoff but as good as Friedl has been, he should be batting at the top of the order.

Bell giving CES the Barrero treatment. Barrero hits a GS in Boston then sits for 3 games. Damn near decapitates Kershaw with a line drive up the middle....then he's buried in AAA. Think I'll find a HS football game tonight.

I really felt like the season changed once the Reds faced the Brewers in July and got punched in the mouth. Sure, they were able to rebound with a series win vs the Dodgers, lead the division going into August but this team was at its peak in June-early July. That narrative could have been changed if Krall had been more active at the deadline to get a SP, more bullpen help. Injuries have certainly been a huge factor in the Reds sporadic play down the stretch. They might be closer to where the Cubs are now without a makeshift rotation and a burned out bullpen. The daily lineup circus has cost the Reds games as well.

When’s the last time the Reds won with Senzel starting?
To be fair to him, started in both of the wins over Detroit though he had only 2 hits in the 1st one, 0-4 3 strikeouts the next day. Every now and then he will have his moments like he did vs the Nationals on the road in July, a couple of walk-offs and will take it whatever he gives. Much prefer seeing our young guys get the development they need.

After the Mets swept the D'Backs and on a roll, this is a big win. Every win is important obviously though I have to be honest about being worried going into it on the road after how they handled Arizona.

Wasn't pretty, I thought they were doomed with the lineup from the start but the Reds win. Glad they did and proved me wrong today. Hopefully it continues.

Old Red Chase Anderson has a no-hitter through 7 vs the Giants. Unfortunately losing.
It might be one of the ugliest no-hitters since the debacle the Reds pulled last year vs the Pirates wasting Hunter Greene's outstanding effort. Anderson gave up a run, 5 BB and losing 1-0. Guess it will still go down in the record books if it stands. D'Backs up 3-0 on the Cubs. Marlins beat the Braves.

Colorado came back to win that game vs the Giants. With the Cubs/D'Backs Series, if the Cubs swept they would fall out of a Wild Card spot only 1.5 games ahead of Arizona & Cincinnati. 1 win by the Cubs knocks Arizona out provided the Reds handle their business. Abbott going with some extra rest going 8 days since his last game.

D'Backs beat the Cubs, remain tied for the 3rd Wild Card spot but all of a sudden the Cubs are only 0.5 games ahead of them. Reds have tiebreakers on both. Need to finish off the sweep tomorrow and then begin the final homestand of the year with the only above .500 team left on the schedule, the Twins.

It took forever, but Bell's ignorance finally showed some light by benching or batting the worst player on the team at the bottom of the order. KKKKKKKKKKKKRUZ should have been sent down weeks ago.

I’m beginning to think the Reds’ front office DOES NOT want to make the playoffs. They don’t want to throw the young pitchers any more games.

They are happy with being “close” and using the hype from this year to get fans in the seats early next year. I think they will look at how they can cut money next year!

Yep, have to commend the players for keeping it as close as they have. The front office has let this team down not adequately addressing the starting rotation all the way back to last offseason and have had multiple chances to get some quality depth to stop the bleeding from all of the injured starters. Only adding one reliever. If they somehow make it, I can't see them advancing with the news of Ashcraft being done. Abbott has been stretched as far as he can this year and Williamson has not looked like himself before the COVID IL. After that you don't even know who it starting the next game with prospects, minor league journeymen and opener strategies being utilized this late in the game.

As far as cutting money, likely start with Votto's $7 million buyout, it's the final year of the Griffey deferred deal and Moose's 2024 buyout worth $4 million. I guess some will say the Reds should be happy to be 'ahead' which yes they did improve from 2022 compared to where many thought they would be in 2023. Definitely seem content to ride being above .500 with 2 weeks to go and hope in 2024 they are better.
