Reds

Antone leaving the game with an apparent injury.
All you can do at this point is hope there is nothing serious with Antone's arm again. Talk about having the worst luck. His resiliency to come back after talking about retiring from the pain, have to feel for the guy. Never was big on him being pushed back into the opener situation. Keep him to an inning tops this soon back.
Whether McLain returns this year or 2024, haven't seen anything concrete that suggests his season is done yet especially if they do make it to the postseason he could be back in time for then. It will still be interesting to see how this lineup will unfold with a full deck now that the infielders of the future have arrived. Not in the camp that believes or wants India to get traded over the offseason. His leadership qualities to this team are vastly underrated. Much better team when he is on the field.
If reports are true he will be swinging the bat again in a week, McLain admitted to playing through the pain initially so perhaps he would give it a shot if the Reds make the postseason. No rehab assignments that late in the season. Goldsmith said on the 3rd out 2-3 more weeks, that's been a week and half so it is possible he returns. Haven't seen a recent update on Ashcraft. Reds need him back so it's not just Greene and a bunch of rookies. Lively should be back soon.

Cubs look like they have hit a little rut. Hopefully we can get Ashcraft and McClain back and see what happens. This team is fighting like crazy.
It's about time someone knocked them down a peg. Lost to the Rockies 7-3 today. Diamondbacks losing 7-0 to the Reds next opponent, the Mets. Marlins currently leading Milwaukee 1-0. Definitely need to get these 2 back healthy and go from there. If you make it and are healthy, anything is possible like the Phillies last season.

Reds are 3-0 since India and Votto returned and tied for the 3rd WC spot unless AZ comes back late down 7-0.
And can't forget Greene who dominated his first start back on Sunday. Tonight the bullpen was lights out again with Duarte looking as good as I've ever seen in a high leverage situation.

Mets beat Diamondbacks 7-1. CIN/ARI tied for the 3rd Wild Card spot for now with the Reds owning a tiebreaker if necessary. The tiebreaker could even come into play with Chicago if they continue their recent slide. Just continue winning and control your own fate now that they have caught back up.

Bell just inserted a pinch runner on a 3-2 count. In the middle of an at bat, not sure Ive ever seen that. And it was CES that he took out that was 1 for 2 with a walk and a run scored.
That was bizarre. And letting Senzel bat vs RHP in 7th was too, results were predictable, he K'd. Earth to Bell: Never, ever let Senzel bat vs RHP.

Nice extra inning win last night.

3 down…11 more at least.
Nice win. Need at least 10 more.

I think getting some veterans (India and Votto) back has helped tremendously. I think the young guys were really starting to press. The vets have sort of calmed them down. Now can we get a vet HC to come in and do the same for Bell?

Not sure who you would take out. I don’t mind Martini getting a start and a few ABs. If the Reds make the playoffs, he might be a much needed bat.
For me it's easy, Votto/Martini. CES/Marte had a combined 3 hits last night. Game winner from TS a couple nights ago, Bell sits him. Benson had 3 extra base hits over the weekend, Bell sits him for 3 days. I get the ABs for Votto/Martini if they can make the playoffs but you got to get there first. Bell's been jerking around CES, has now started on Marte. SMH.

Welsh saying Benson "hasn't been able to play" the last few games because of LHP. Bullshit, no such rule in baseball, just managerial incompetence. Let Derek Law spot the Tigers a run with the opener strategy, burn Moll early and then go Ben Lively. WTF. Also Fraley leading off, Friedl batting cleanup and India 6th. Martini has been a nice story but he is still a .241 hitter and belongs nowhere near 2nd in the lineup.

4-3 Reds, 36 saves for Diaz this year. Still 8 off the Cowboy's single season record of 44. If he is a Red long enough, probably passes it.

Re: Dunn, having three players hit the 20/50 mark this year probably deserves an asterisk considering the rules changes to shorten the basepaths and limit the number of pickoff attempts.

Marte was day to day with a fractured nose from the errant throw to the face from EDLC during warmups a few games back.

Would you put an asterisk next to every player who achieves this accomplishment going forward?

Both CES & Marte in the game now that they are down 3 in the bottom of the 8th.

Looks like the Reds just conceded this one. So tell me what's the logic of throwing two relievers out there the first two innings then bringing in Lively for 4+? Why not just give Lively the start?

Ok, maybe i misstated, Andruw Jones and Volpe should get the asterisks for doing it without the aid of the new rules.

He started last night, not sure the relevance of this going forward.
it's not, I'm assuming he was OK. i was referring to Mrschwumps assertion that Bell was starting to jerk him around. He had a legit injury keeping him out of the lineup for a few days.

I'm aware of that. But need to play guys like CES/Marte full time, it's their best chance to advance.

You and me both, I don't get whole "opener" deal. Guess I'm missing something.

Everything about this game from the lineup and the usage of the pitching staff was a disaster to begin with. In a tight Wild Card race, there is no time to get cute. Beyond frustrating.

That's Bell...worst manager in baseball.

EDC....continues to be the worst everyday player in MLB since the break. Baffling why he was never sent down.

Who in the hell are you going to replace him with? Since you got all of the answers, please enlighten everyone.

Don't get it either. Maybe it works if you have a stretched out reliever who can give you multiple innings but you burn a lefty relief option in Sam Moll by the 2nd inning. Strategy thrown out the window in later innings by that point for matchups. This might have been a game Lyon Richardson could have pitched a couple of innings in since he has looked decent in a couple of games against lesser teams and then Lively later on. Could have been a bullpen rest day after the relievers having to pick up 11 innings in the previous 2 games.

So you just essentially scratch that spot in the order and hope like hell he doesn't come up in an important situation. Votto, India, Steer, Marte in the infield....Renfroe, Friedl, Benson in the outfield. DH CES.....it isn't rocket science dumbass.

Votto LMFAO, really? Batting 40 points below EDLC, you are an imbecile.

I don't disagree, but to say Bell was jerking Marte around wasn't true. are you saying Bell should have played him with a broken face?

I think from a pitching standpoint, today was just an assertion of the problems they are facing in regards to injuries to the staff. The lineup was just stupidity though.
