Reds

Senzel back in there in LF batting 5th, Friedl playing RF and batting last. No Benson or Fraley.

Yeah, SMH with Senzel and Freidl's rag arm in RF. Wow.

This lefty/righty bullshit with Friedl is even more frustrating to me than playing Senzel. That guy battles his ass off no matter who pitches.

7-1 Reds, Cardinals held to 1 hit. Votto also with a home run in his return. Friedl HR, Benson 3 hits. Greene was good, 1 run unearned in 6 innings, 9 K's.

OT: Who is the blonde lady floating around the Reds dugout? Figure she must be a trainer of sorts.

Well the Reds finally got win 2. Problem is they have to now go 12-5 to even get to 14 wins since I posted on 9/5. Looking less likely that 86 wins will get that last spot.
Really need Arizona to go on a losing streak and the Reds do their jobs finally getting some players back healthy. Hopefully Marte is back soon after EDLC hit him in the face in warmups with the ball. Marlins have the Brewers right now. D'Backs have a big series this weekend vs the Cubs. Giants opponents in the last couple of weeks are brutal but what I fear about some of these teams that have clinched are starting to rest players like the Dodgers who they face down the stretch.

Marte returns to score the go-ahead run in extras off a Stephenson single.
6-5 Reds victory. Former Tiger Buck Farmer with the save.

D-Backs and Marlins both lost while the Cubs and Giants are both losing. Right now the Reds are 1 game behind AZ for the 3rd WC spot and 3.5 games behind the Cubs.

Of all the crazy lineups the Reds have sent out there this year, I do like the gumption to throw Steer in RF for a game. With Marte coming back in late in the game, whenever McLain returns it will be interesting to see how the infield will be with India back now too.

Unfortunately, I don't think we will see McClain the rest of the season. Most reports are saying he is finished.

report I saw on the Reds Site is that he's supposed to start taking some BP on the 18th in hopes he can get back by the end of the season and maybe be available for the playoffs if they make it.

14-16 win range would put them at a good pace compared with the other 3 teams who are in a similar spot record wise for issues of their own while battling out for the last Wild Card spot assuming Chicago & Philadelphia aren't going to slow down. Will need some luck with the rest of those teams losing down the stretch. Marlins lost their reigning Cy Young Award winner Alcantara even though he was struggling this year. Marlins, Giants & D'Backs all have a brutal schedule compared to the Reds to finish 2023.

At least Hunter Greene will be back and need him to pitch like he did vs San Francisco. One would assume that also means Lively & Williamson are returning soon. The ones to worry about getting healthy in time are Ashcraft and need Matt McLain in the lineup. Stephenson, Marte & CES have been better at the plate recently and getting India & McLain back would be a huge boost for the depth of this team.
Cubs look like they have hit a little rut. Hopefully we can get Ashcraft and McClain back and see what happens. This team is fighting like crazy.

Bell just inserted a pinch runner on a 3-2 count. In the middle of an at bat, not sure Ive ever seen that. And it was CES that he took out that was 1 for 2 with a walk and a run scored.

Yeah, his injury is the type that can linger. Best to move on, let him heal.

Whether McLain returns this year or 2024, haven't seen anything concrete that suggests his season is done yet especially if they do make it to the postseason he could be back in time for then. It will still be interesting to see how this lineup will unfold with a full deck now that the infielders of the future have arrived. Not in the camp that believes or wants India to get traded over the offseason. His leadership qualities to this team are vastly underrated. Much better team when he is on the field.
