Reasons Duke is about to SELF IMPLODE

Gonzo, there's a huge difference in a top 5 team winning in 2 squeakers, then dominating a team by almost 50 and Duke who not only lost both games, but did so in absolute blowouts. I assure you this board would be far worse off had we actually lost those games in the blowout manner which Duke did. I think you are mischaracterizing those situations badly. They cannot be compared.

I hear you. What I'm saying is that OTHER fans seemed to view our two "almost losses" in the way this thread represents Duke's two actual losses. To them, we were overrated, in trouble, about to collapse, had a PG controversy, etc. because it took OT to beat two weaker teams. That's why I said this thread sounded like what you would hear about us on the Louisville board.

Duke could very well finish this current 7 game stretch with a 1-6 record. I think they will be 2-5 personally, but 3-4 at best.

They could go from undefeated #2 in the country at 14-0 to being 15-6 and unranked within a matter of 3 weeks.
This will never happen. They are the only team I've ever seen lose a game and still move up in the rankings. They'll remain ranked, you can count on that.
Actually Kansas did last year I believe. They were hell bent on keeping Duke and Kansas in the Top 10 all season no matter how much they lost.

Duke's perimeter guys cannot stay in front of their man. It's that simple. Teams that can exploit that will have a real shot to beat them. (See NC ST and Miami). Don't know about implode but there has to be a doubt in some of their minds. We'll see how they react the next time sometime gets them down.

Coach Rupp's record was 876 wins and 190 losses.

Coach Rupp is the only coach who has won 876 games that did with less than 200 loses. Think about that.

You should never fail to mention that when some body tries to tell you about all of those who finally passed him in victories.

ONLY 190 loses.

Yeah, that was crazy. 10 losses and still in the Top 10. They always have a crazy high SOS and that pretty much keeps them highly ranked regardless of their losses.

Was watching highly questionable and Bomani Jones was talking about Duke's defense not being good for the last 5 years and said it was inexplicable. Not really. As he was saying this they were running clips of the game and a Miami guy drove and dished, while Sulaimon who was guarding the driver pitifully flopped trying to draw a charge. That's one of their problems. When your primary defensive strategy is to flop, you aren't going to be a good defender. That's all on Krybabyshitski.

I guess people like to strike while the iron is hot but you are kidding yourself if you think duke is done. It's all part of the script, they're going roll into louisville this weekend and kick butt, you watch. Losing those two game was the worst thing that could happen for louisville. Questioning coach K's ability to coach is as dumb as wondering if water is wet too.

Gonzo, I'm surprised (although I shouldn't be) that this actually has to be spelled out to some people. Opposing fans view every missed jump shot as evidence that our players are overrated and that the team is full of ego-driven megalomaniacs.

The OP does little to give an objective view of Duke's current struggles. It basically amounts to the written form of chest thumping. Sure we all hope Duke will be implode, and UofL will implode, and every team we face on our way to a national title. But we can also be objective and recognize other teams relative strengths and weaknesses. Duke is still a very formidable opponent and when they are hitting on all cylinders they are a national title worthy team.

.S & C. I agree with your post and especially that it appeared that Duke players quit and so did Coach K. Do experienced coaches or social scientists have a comment on how that will influence their psyche? In Two blowouts in which they were both favored by double digits.

Also S & C.....I tip my hat to your Stan the Man icon....he was my boyhood idle land....even have his autograph on a baseball and I always wore #6 in any type of competition. He was a great player and even a better person, helping breakdown the color barrier, etc.

Wasn't Kansas supposed to implode as well? They seem to be holding on just fine and are undefeated in their conference.

People need to calm down about other top coaches. While i agree to some extent on few of the points, it's not a sign of imploding.

For coaches like Coach K, Self, Donovan, Pitino, imploding happens when it actually happens. Same thing for Coach Cal.

They are hall of famers for a reason.

Hope he doesn't use the defense as an escape goat and realizes they need just to play more fast paste.
