Many "average" bettors are reading about Florida being a top 25 team and still think of them as a top 10 team. Most people have any idea how the Kentucky/Florida games have been played the last 6 years. Florida could win and win big - but if you follow college football and these two teams in particular - Kentucky should be the favorite and the original 3.5 point line is what it should have been. However, any game in which the line is originally set at less than 6 is in reality a toss up. The odds makers are "trying" to move bettors to bet the team getting points in fear that people will load up on the team giving the points. The sports books make their money on hoping for a 50/50 split on betting - heavy betting on one team is usually a big loser for the bookmakers!

I think most early bettors wanted the points. If it goes to a pick then a few might take UK even and take a shot at hitting both.

I think the normal 3 point edge for home field is what this game should be. Close to 50/50 probably who wins this game. We are a year away from being able to win SEC games on talent.

How can we tell if its public money or sharp money? I bet a lot back in the day but not in the internet age.

I put money on Florida to win as an emotional hedge. If we win I'm very happy. If we lose I'm sad about the result but at least I get money out of it.

The last time I bet on Kentucky was with a $50 free bet on BetMGM last year. I placed an 11 leg parlay, all money lines, I correctly picked 10/11. The one I got wrong? Kentucky vs Vanderbilt. Would have won 5k, will never bet on UK again lol

I'll just say, we are as good as some of these top 25 teams...

I hope this translates to a win saturday.

You get how it works but did not mention bookies laying off bets up the chain until they can find a holder to take the bet. In the past before off-line betting action - not long before game time the spread would jump - in my day bookies were also good citizens.

This is exactly the same thing I do (emotional hedging). It’s a win-win. The free money promos make it even better. I’m guaranteed a great Saturday every week!

GD, but that is a bad, bad beat. UK was like a 17 point favorite, right?

Back to OP, when the money all goes one way, more often than not, the game ends up the other way, or so a friend/bookie told me. My belief is simply that God loves bookies and casinos, sure seems to break their way a heck of a lot.

Not that I am a bitter former sports gambler, or anything like that whatsoever.

Sharp money is typically as soon as the lines are dropped or just before kickoff. You can also sign up for services that track number of bets and the line movement throughout the week. If you do that, then you can sometimes clearly see public money going against sharp money when the majority of bets are going for one team, but the line moves in the opposite direction because the wiseguys are dropping big contrarian bets.

No to mention, the big sportsbooks raise their limits shortly before game time because they can quantify their risk.

The line will move once again when all the free promos come out tomorrow in Kentucky for online sports betting
