Coach Short wasn’t well liked by the WR’s. It seems when Short left Mackin became interested in returning. And brown. That timing was no accident. Imo the staff decided to not pay brown.

Brown will end up a #3 WR or rotation piece on a good team…but picked up more for return game . He’ll get paid , but maybe not more than he was getting hereAnd brown. That timing was no accident. Imo the staff decided to not pay brown.

It wasn’t just “cheating”He was just ahead of his time, he probably cheated less than 90% of the schools do today
In the same way Charles Ponzi was ahead of his time.He was just ahead of his time, he probably cheated less than 90% of the schools do today

What is being done a half century later does not justify intentionally cheating a half century ago that soiled the reputation of the University and nearly cost us our athletics department.
Because of Curci, UK was placed on NCAA probation that set us up as being eligible for the "Death Penalty" that nearly came to fruition after Mumme and Bassett cheated and got caught. For those of you who hate Mitch Barnhart, our current athletics director was hired by President Todd after the administration learned that the department had continued to harbor cheating under CM Newton and Larry Ivy. Barnhart was given the job of cleaning out the athletics department of leakers, gamblers, and cheating boosters, for which Barnhart is still hated by some of those same people he was hired to clean out at the time. Sandy Bell was hired specifically to force compliance on the department and back up Barnhart. To some extent, Barnhart civered for Bell's work and took hits from boosters in order to protect her. This is why the Board of Trustees has continued to support Barnhart while some boosters and their allies continue to attack Barnhart dishonestly and relentlessly, even today. I think it is important to discuss and understand all the ramifications before dismissing the amount of damage Curci and Mumme did at UK. We skirted disaster and barely escaped with a functioning athletics department. Seriously.
Important guys for UKFWIW Rowland says Gilmore/Wilcox are staying.
I'd feel much better if we had an official okey-dokey on Wilcox/Gilmore/Rodriquez.Important guys for UK
I agree with what you say ,my comment was more along the lines of how much things have changed. In the same way Charles Ponzi was ahead of his time.

Drugs and implications in murder are bad things. Elmore Stephens and Sonny Collins come to mind(along with his New Jersey connections(It wasn’t just “cheating”
He brought some bad characters to town that got involved in some bad things.
Gilmore and Rodriguez are staying. They are improving Wilcox's NIL deal and he will probably stay, but look out for Lane Kiffin. At the end of the day, I believe Wilcox probably stays because he will be a star here and he likes Coach Boulware. But if Boulware leaves for some reason, all bets would be off.I'd feel much better if we had an official okey-dokey on Wilcox/Gilmore/Rodriquez.
Warren Bryant was no saint and that is putting it mildly. When you are an All American, you can get away with a lot. Especially back in those days. Don't get me wrong. I liked watching him bury PA St defensive linemen.Drugs and implications in murder are bad things. Elmore Stephens and Sonny Collins come to mind(along with his New Jersey connections(

Just a little side story. I was a junior at WKU when Curci was hired, I was a dorm RA and had frequent interaction with dorm directors. One of the asst. directors was a grad student who had been on the training staff at Miami the year before.
We were talking one day and I ask how he thought Curci would at UK, I'll never forget his exact words" Oh he'll win at Kentucky, until the NCAA catches up with him"
Obviously this was before Curci had coached a down for UK, fairly accurate prediction wouldn't you say?
Blackburn Correctional complex could have fielded a pretty good football teamWarren Bryant was no saint and that is putting it mildly. When you are an All American, you can get away with a lot. Especially back in those days. Don't get me wrong. I liked watching him bury PA St defensive linemen.
Im thinking at best hes a third round pick
Yep. This is issue #1.It’s gotta be oline oline oline.
A good oline makes average players successful
A shitty oline makes great players suck.
Trayanum was a doak walker candidate prior to his injury, and did well at OSU previously. He had a very rough injury for a RB to get cleared from (broken hand). You need 100% strength to grip and carry , and defenders are slapping and beating you across hands every play trying to strip . He should be back, maybe lesser NIL along with PattersonGilmore and Rodriguez are staying. They are improving Wilcox's NIL deal and he will probably stay, but look out for Lane Kiffin. I'm certainly in favor of this, especially not making fools of themselves by clowning or talking trash when they are losing... or ever, for that matter. As has been stated. Get as many good lineman as you can get. With Maclin staying and if Gilmore stays that’s a nice receiver pair. Get Wilcox to stay. Develop Boley. Overspending on QB’s isn’t working. Rid yourself of Wolford. Go back to the power running game that Stoops prefers. Instill disciplined football minimizing errors. Stop with the incessant showboating while you’re getting your ass beat. I prefer a fresh start with a new coach but this is the only way a coach like Stoops is gonna have any success at all.
Wolf has destroyed the toughness of that OL. I'd start with a damn workhorse from a FCS like ND State or Montana in that OL Coach and let him build up his own legacy here and get his own OL built. Wolf has been destructive to that OL and his recruiting.Feels like we'll get a bunch of OLinemen at a pretty penny. They'll be and to demand more since we badly need them.
Whether they perform to their NIL $$$ is yet to be seen, though. Wolf is their coach, so my guess is that whomever we get will underperform. But, who knows? I'm nothing but a sourpuss when it comes to UK football right now.
$$$$I think one issue that will come up in the next couple of days is that plenty of good players will enter the portal, and we will all want Kentucky to go after them. But will any of these players actually want to come here and play? The culture is bad, the coaching isn’t great, and other issues.
I honestly don’t think Kentucky is viewed as negatively by other people as it is by our own fans lol.I think one issue that will come up in the next couple of days is that plenty of good players will enter the portal, and we will all want Kentucky to go after them. Most people just view Kentucky as a mid SEC school with a little moneyI honestly don’t think Kentucky is viewed as negatively by other people as it is by our own fans lol.
I don't think one bad season means players don't want to play here. If we have enough NIL money, I think the staff will be able to get good players through the portal.I think one issue that will come up in the next couple of days is that plenty of good players will enter the portal, and we will all want Kentucky to go after them. Much like in the NFL, money is going to speak when it comes to some of these OTs. It won't shock me if some of these guys get offered $1+ million. The coaches look to be very serious at bringing in a top OL for next season.
Distributing money to OL first and with the amount we have to offer our chances look pretty good at getting some pro type OL. And playing in the SEC, these guys know they will be well prepared to transition to the pro's. Should be fun watching a QB at UK getting to play behind a high caliber OL. Been a long time.Much like in the NFL, money is going to speak when it comes to some of these OTs. It won't shock me if some of these guys get offered $1+ million.
Got to keep Wilcox IMO and as far the receivers go I'm fine with a who has left and am excited for who's still here and who's coming in. Love Rodriguez and Gilmore and Maclin and love the entire freshamn group, just worry about their inexperience to help next year. The new coach needs to be a good one.Gilmore and Rodriguez are staying. They are improving Wilcox's NIL deal and he will probably stay, but look out for Lane Kiffin. Well yeah lol but I’m not sure that’s the negative you think it is. Good players from the portal go to schools like that all the time. Most people just view Kentucky as a mid SEC school with a little money
One bad season? What rock have you been under. How many years were you under that rock? We need to be honest with ourselves. I wish it had only been one bad year. Have we gotten to the point that if we are bowl eligible, we have had a good year? A barely good year should be 8 - 4 or 9 - 3, certainly not 6 - 6. If a break even season is our ceiling we need to leave the SEC or drop our football program. If we can sustain a winning program in basketball we should be able to do the same in football. Lexington is a wonderful city and has a ton of activities compared to many of the other SEC schools. Have you ever been to Oxford or Starkville, MS? Gainesville, FL, Columbia, MO, and Norman, OK? Those places are no where close to being as nice as Lexington. This tells me that the leaders of our football program is our issue, not our lovely city.I don't think one bad season means players don't want to play here. If we have enough NIL money, I think the staff will be able to get good players through the portal.
"Mark" said nothing of the sort, he can't publicly comment on this player. You made that up. He was a RS last year, contributed to his ZERO catches I'm sure.WR from Uconn visiting. ZERO catches last year.
But Mark says we will be better
Montgomery, a 6-2 195 receiver described himself as fast, high IQ, physical and strong. Marrow liked his film and offered. Marrow said he was 'explosive.' Only three hours from his home, sounds like a done deal. Already talking about the team as 'we.' Only played in four games last season so has four years of eligibility left. Wants our coaches to help him with getting off quick and route running to make him better."Mark" said nothing of the sort, he can't publicly comment on this player. You made that up. Guy who wasn't good enough to burn a redshirt at UConn (winning record this year but 0 P4 wins) is a tough sellWR from Uconn visiting. ZERO catches last year.
But Mark says we will be better
I'm sorry, but your logic is horrible flawed. It makes no difference how nice Lexington is or isn't. The issue is how much NIL money a schools has. When it comes to big money donors, we are not one of the wealthiest schools in the SEC. You also don't seem to understand the history of UK football. We were a perennial bottom feeder until Stoops got here. No respectable coach wanted to coach here because they all thought it was impossible to win here. Just going to bowl was a rare occurrence. The idea that going to 8 straight bowls is par for the course at one of worst football programs in the SEC is just ridiculous. I'm concerned Stoops has lost his ability to win but to act like he is an utter failure shows no recognition of who we are.One bad season? What rock have you been under. How many years were you under that rock? We need to be honest with ourselves. I wish it had only been one bad year. Have we gotten to the point that if we are bowl eligible, we have had a good year? That is almost word for word what CMS said at the end of his signing day press conference or radio show."Mark" said nothing of the sort, he can't publicly comment on this player. You made that up. He was a RS last year, contributed to his ZERO catches I'm sure.
Exactly. He 100% said we will be better next year. That is almost word for word what CMS said at the end of his signing day press conference or radio show.
That was BEFORE this kid was even mentioned as possibly coming to UK.
BUT CMS said we would have a better team next year. Actually said " don't panic" we will be better next year.
Glory DAYSWhen I played (well, practiced a lot, I didn’t see the field much) for Oldham County back in the 80’s, my sophomore year we went undefeated all the way up until losing in the Semi finals to the eventual State Champ Christian County 6-0 on a questionable center sneak in a storm of freezing rain, sleet and cold. We had some big boys that year on the line, some went on to play college ball, one walked on at UK for a couple of years after wrestling at a MAC school. We allowed something like a total of 48 points scored on us all season and pitched six shutouts. It was all downhill after that season. When the big boys left we had an OL that featured a guard who was 5’-7” and 165 lbs. strong as an ox though. Was my sisters boyfriend for a couple of years. He actually got an honorable mention all-state playing guard at that size. But we only won like 3 games my junior year.
