It's a poorly reasoned illusion from half-truths, but I'll piggyback off you two to make a point.

You know what's way worse than your Renaissance fair imagined reality? A real one where people like you abdicate your responsiblity to the next generation: sexualize them in school, tell them they can "transgender" (which is in all scientific reality mutilation before they can consent), and celebrate perverted, weak men getting off hrough drag kink while indoctrinating innocent children in "shows" and "story hours" in the name of "inclusiviity."

No, trust me, having that disgusting reality foisted upon us by you (general) is no comparison to the imagined narrative going on between your ears.

Wtf? Are you OK? Been day-drinking, have ya? Forgot to take your meds, maybe?

I have no idea how you imagined I stand for any of this. I’ve never once indicated that I did.

Wow!

The thing about the ultra religious is they don't compromise and they don't stop. We are in the middle of the most frightening religious assault on our Constitutional freedoms in my lifetime. I would say the most optimistic projection for surviving this religious assault on our Constitution is only 50/50.

What on Earth are you talking about?

We are were we are because the right compromised, because it's the left which won't stop.

And I'm on the left, nevertheless, that's what I'm talking about. But I'm not going to say anything more on politics in this thread. The so-called "religious assault" is only of any actual consequence in what I posted and it shouldn't be "religious."

Good! But I meant you (general) not you specific.

So, you’ll be ok then? I’d hate to have to worry about you. You seemed awfully triggered there for a moment. I understand that the very thought of transgender people existing can have quite an affect on xians. And thinking that they might be granted equal rights and be accepted as fellow humans can be very unpleasant for you people.

And I mean you (general), not you specific.

How is teaching your kids to be loving and accepting of all people wrong? What happened to love your neighbor, let he who is without sin cast the first stone? You don't have to like it but what does it matter to you?

Being Christian means rejecting all kinds of people.

God created people who are born gay and if they are a Christian they cannot act on homosexuality and instead have to live their lives alone.

Because they are CHILDREN, and "transgender" rights aren't under attack. That's a strawman to trojan horse your ideology to them. Society wasn'tunaccepting "of "trasngender" until you started going after children. Ru Paul wasn't not granted any rights, no one was/is taking away any of his rights to exist, and society didn't have much of any a problem with his rise to fame and shows. No one said anything, no one said he was unpleasant, and no one said he shouldn't be accepted as a fellow human.

Because they are children. It's hard for me to believe one could in sincerity type something like that, but that's where we are today and it's a common retort from you people. It's just another strawman. You don't have ot have kindergarten drag queen story hour, takechildren to drag shows, give them explicit cartoon books on sex, to teach children to be loving and accepting... you don't have to teach your gender ideology to children in kindergartn, k-12.

Leave the Newsmax and Truth Social talking points in the political thread.
And no, it's not just taking place in the minds of frightened right wingers.

I appreciate your concern for children and their wellbeing. I, too, feel that it is imperative that we band together and never again allow men in dresses anywhere near our children.

Here is a current piece (posted today) that relates, to an extent, to some of what has been shared and discussed in this thread … it is has political overtones, of course, but the waning of and shifting in adherence to religion is the focus. Politics totally aside, it suggests belief continues to decline around the country.

I read an article just the other day and was amazed to learn that the Archdiocese of Cincinnati has plans to greatly consolidate parishes, shrinking from 200 to 70, owing to a decline in attendance and a shortage of priests.

Name one half truth I ever used in our discussion. Name one. Show me the flaws in my reasoning.

For someone that's "on the left' you sure have the usual far right talking points about gay and transgendered folks polished and ready to throw out at a moment's notice.

One of of the reasons I began to fall away from the Church was their attitude toward people of differing sexual orientations. Every Sunday it was "The GAYS are threatening our traditional family values" or "the Hollywood Homosexuals are underlying the moral fabric of America". I have been in the arts, arts education, and consulting for over 40 years. The arts are a magnet for many gay people, who very much appreciate theatre, music, architectural design and visual art. NOT ONE has ever undermined my beliefs, my values, or my family. Not a one has been disrespectful or threatening to my wife, although they will on occasion tell her that her shoes are cute and ask where she gets them. Moreover, in the gay social events I've attended, not once have I been remotely tempted to try out Gay sex. The needle never budges on that one. All this is to say, I began to think if the Church is lying about this..what else are they lying about?

Which brings me to the current situation with with Transgendered people Some people are born with the sexual organs of both genders, and most scientists not on right wing payrolls believe that others are born with neurological, hormonal, and chromosomal make ups that cause them to feel trapped in the wrong bodies. Everyone knows that there are various degrees of masculine females and effeminate males but no one really understands the causation of this variance. During the January 6, hearings, the hall broke out laughter because in one film sequence, that very manly man, Josh Hawley, seems very effeminate in his running technique-or perhaps it just the cowardice. Of course, when faced with natural conditions that even science can't yet explain, nothing is quite as satisfying as judging that condition from Bronze Age writings by men who thought the earth was covered by a giant sky dome.

The very, very few true transgendered individuals I've known were very tortured people , that have spent years of psychological testing before undergoing any type of hormonal treatment then reassignment surgery. The transgendered kids I've known actually developed bladder infections because they were TERRIFIED of going to the bathroom in public places. This rather contradicts the conventional wisdom that women's restrooms are something akin to Roman bathhouses where nubile women lie around naked and anyone pretending to be a woman can drop by for a causal look around.

I don't want to be demeaning. Again, believe what you want and be happy. But try not to victimize those who are already victims of conditions that difficult if not yet impossible to understand.

Progress! From 200 to 70 is a great start.

I imagine Covid probably affected churchgoing as well. A lot of churches by me were doing zoom services.
"Take children to drag shows?" What on Earth are you talking about? I feel like we are having 2 different conversations lol.
Some churches have always used extreme scare tactics. When I was a kid in youth group they had us bring in our rock albums and had a bonfire to burn them. Because Kiss, The Eagles, and even Billy Joel were evil.

If a tree fell in the forest, and you weren’t there to hear it, it still made a sound.

I'm not reading all of that, but if you want to have a political debate, we can do it in the PT. Tag me there and maybe I'll humour you.

Why is it, incidentally, that you must interject politics into every thread, even one about God? I'll tell you why: because politics is your "god."

He was a brilliant dude. Need more people like him.
Smart guy, yes, but not smart enough to overcome himself.

Too bad.

I disagree with your assertion that neither side would ever consider another viewpoint. How many times have we heard from Christian’s that no force on earth could disrupt their faith? Meanwhile, plenty of atheists have stated that, if confronted with verifiable evidence, they would consider the facts and perhaps start to believe.

And I think if you carefully read through this thread, atheists are poking fun at the belief, not the believers. Much like xians that proclaim that they hate the sin, not the sinner.
Went right over your head, sadly. I was careful not to single out either side. I do not think you have any sort of moral high ground on which to stand, as many times as someone will innocently express their beliefs in one of these threads, and you will brutally make fun of them. You can say it’s their beliefs you’re making fun of, but if those beliefs are personal to someone, you can’t be courteous enough not to treat them like crap?

8 billion people on this little blue marble we call home. And 2.6 billion claim to be xian.

If they are right, 5.4 billion people are destined for an eternity in the burning pits of hell. If I am right, nobody burns in hell.

Who do you hope is right?
I hope that the verse in the Bible that says, essentially, that he who does not know the law but lives by the law, I.e.; a good person, is correct. Lots of people will be wrong. I’ve read about people who have had near-death experiences ( watch “Surviving Death” on Netflix) and claim to have briefly experienced heaven, and in almost all of them, there’s a “life review,” and the biggest thing the creator looks at is whether or not we loved.

Check yourself, champ. My response was to YOUR post regurgitating all the right wing talking points, creating a crystal clear right wing anti gay/trans political infomercial. Obviously you feel there just isn't enough Gay and Trans hate out there already.

You aren't going to debate me anywhere about anything. If you had reasonable responses to my posts, you would post them.

If only everyone could be so lucky to see heaven in a near death experience, thus eliminating the need to have faith. Hm. Something doesn't add up.

There's also young children who can recall vivid, verified details and experiences of human beings who lived far in the past of those children. So is reincarnation legit?

Why are beliefs off limits to make fun of? I laugh at flat earthers, chemtrail believers, astrology followers, you name it. And I also laugh my ass off at people who think there’s an invisible man that lives in the sky and hates gays and liberals and fornicators. Ever since religions no longer murder people for blasphemy or heresy, your beliefs are fair game. You may laugh at my beliefs if you wish. I’ll laugh along with you.

God doesn't hate liberals, gays and fornicators, just their unrepentant sin and denial of Him.

Jesus did NOT say he hated gays or anyone else. Try again.

could be! Who knows?
So, apparently there’s an omnipotent creator of 200 billion galaxies. And somehow SDC888 knows what that creator hates and doesn’t hate. Amazing!
Here he goes again, laying on the condescension and arrogance, mistakenly under the assumption any of his insults are clever!

“Consequently, atheism turns out to be too simple.” CS Lewis
Full disclosure: I really love the writings of CS Lewis: For years I would keep various CS Lewis books on my nightstand. I watched a podcast the other day on YouTube the other, and I can't remember the name of it, but it was a largely autobiographical account of the life of CS Lewis in mostly his own words. I would very much hope you would have enjoyed it as much as I did.

All that said, he didn't seem to understand Christianity all that well either-but then..who can? An entire religion based on Messiah who must descend from the line of David, who clearly isn't from the line of David? A Messiah who is promised to bring peace to the entire world who clearly did not? A Messiah that was promised to deliver the Jews from their occupiers and tormenters, who actually became the Deliverer of the Gentiles while the Jews Temple was torn down?

Anyway, I'm all in on the Jesus teachings of love, acceptance of of our differences, the forgiveness. Sadly, those I just don't see those traits in practice.

Reverend Phelps said he did. You say he didn't. It's very confusing. Not sure which one of his spokesmen I should believe.
Instead of posting a picture of what some idiot holding signs believes, if you truly wanted to know the answer to your question (which I don't think you do), you would consult what the Bible says. Not what some idiot Reverend says, or what some anonymous poster on a message board says. You will find the true answer there.

Per usual, and this has been your go to tactic throughout this thread, you try to denigrate true believers by posting a picture of a "believer" saying something offensive and ridiculous, or how non genuine believers act, like it is a reflection of true believers. Atheists need to stop doing that.

You made the claim that God hates the gay community, and instead of providing biblical evidence of that (you know, which would actually support your claim), you post a stupid picture, that provides no evidence for your claim.

Ok, just so we are clear.

Your god’s real opinions and intentions are not given to people by his representatives, the clergy. And his real opinions and intentions are not given to people by anyone in this thread. His real opinions and intentions are found ONLY in the buybull?

God doesn't have opinions. He deals in truths.

You continue to embarrass yourself on here, which is really sad to watch.

Dude...you made a claim that God hates the gay community. I am asking you for evidence from the Bible, aka God's Word, and you are deflecting, and choosing not to answer. You made the claim, now support it biblically.

When people pervert God's Word for selfish reasons, you get the picture that you posted. If what an anonymous message board poster says about God's Word differs that greatly from what an idiot holding a sign says.. go to the source, which is the Bible.

Now stop deflecting and support your claim that God hates the gay community.

I made that claim based on what your god’s earthly representative said. I guess we can’t trust them to speak for your god. Thanks for setting us straight on that. And I also made that claim based on how many of your god’s fan base react towards the gay community.

I’ll take your word for it that your god’s loving feelings towards the gay community are spelled out in your favorite book. It really creeps me out to go sifting through it though because I find so much of it to be objectionable and offensive. So I’ll simply withdraw my claim.

I’ve already spelled a long list of reasons why. And this is a discussion about whether or not gods exists. It is my opinion that they do not.

And just how is it unhealthy? Because I disagree with you?

(Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NAB)

"If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her."

what kind of god thinks to themselves, "yeah, this sounds great."

As a god I wouldn't condone a rapist marrying his victim. That's just evil.
