Their excuse is that Halper wasn't a spy but an informant, a concerned American. They want you to believe that Halper wasn't planted into the Trump campaign by the FBI, but simply reached out to the Trump campaign as a friend, only wanting to offer his advice on foreign policy.
That's bullshit. Republican or not, Halper endorsed Hillary and had very harsh words for Trump during the election. He was never Trump through and through. He would never sincerely offer his help to the Trump campaign.
