Also tariffs = sales tax so you’re going to pay more in taxes regardless.

Tariffs are nothing like a sales tax. If there’s a tariff on cars from Japan, I can buy an American car. Sales tax is a state or local tax, and generally applies to all goods regardless of origin, and can be avoided based on use.
