Bringing slaves over here was immoral and awful.
By the standards of the day, purchasing slaves was not immoral. The way they brought most of the African slaves to the Americas was definitely immoral and horrible, though it was not unlike how the African and Islamic traders did so with their slaves, whether white, brown, or black.
We should have picked our own cotton.
1. It wasn't "our" cotton. This was British territory. It was the Crown's cotton. We should never forget that.
2. The people that owned and ran their plantations did so at the mercy of the crown for a long time. When they gained independence from British rule, many of the plantation owners could not afford to let their slaves go and pay real wages.
3. Many who did went bankrupt over the ensuing years, and or were bought out by those people and companies that didn't have to pay wages.
4. Morality in this situation was not universal globally or locally. Slave ownership is STILL in existence today, so it's not like the Morality is settled or able to be legislated out of existence. It wasn't until later in the 1800s that it began to be very broadly immoral in the West (even while it wasn't and still isn't immoral in the middle east, Africa, and the far east).
5. How a person treats a servant IS and ALWAYS HAS BEEN a moral issue going back more than 4000 years.
6. Not all slaves were treated poorly. Not all slaves wanted to be independent of their masters. Not all were able to survive on their own, and many struggled.
7. There is ZERO question that the globalists want slavery to return across the entire globe. They are using liberals to make it happen, and the liberals are pushing society off the cliff with their own legs shackled to it. They have no ability to sustain themselves for any length of time. They are seeing the effects of that now as their house of cards is losing funding. They just don't understand what they're looking at and that they are responsible for it.
Once it was "our" cotton, slavery went away gradually as it did most places in the west. There is ZERO moral high ground to be claimed because someone got rid of ot before someone else. Even as it prospers in the far east, Africa, and the middle east now, WE BENEFIT from it through lower prices.
Until it is truly eradicated, and even then, it's silly to place blame for what happened over 160 years ago on people that were never involved in it, black and white alike. I have slaves in my family line. So what. Most of my family came here after slavery was abolished. There are slaves that were owned by Africans. And...? No one has ONCE gone after any of the AA people who's ancestors owned slaves, and iirc in fact, one ran for president in 2024.
Digging up and for old grievances is not only unwise, it as immoral as slavery, because it makes a slave of all who live and are affected by it.
