Trump's plan was to gather a consortium of US and EU investors together to capitalize the mineral rights, and by doing so, provide the US some recompense, have a US presence there (which would make Putin terrified of further aggression/corner him into a non-aggression treaty) AND provide Ukraine with much needed income. This dolt completely misrepresents the entire thing, as well as the dollar amounts.

That's my read on Zeihan as well. He is excellent at giving you really useful data up front but his analysis of that data is borderline insane. Like on the Ukraine war.... He was sure that Ukraine was going to encircle Crimea last summer and capture 60K Russian troops. Then he was sure that Russia blew up the damn to cause the flooding even though that water flowed to a nuclear power plant Russia controlled. Then he was sure Russia was shelling the nuclear power plant that Russia controlled and had 100's of troops guarding....

They def want to get to the rive to be able to hammer the Ukraninian ecnonomy.
Having one side of the river ultimately lets them bully commerce trying to move up and down the rive by barge (given thats impossible currently with dam destroyed and a long rebuild, prior to the war 10% of grain moved along the rive along with others commercial commodities key to their economy)

Ultimately they are a LONG way away from getting to the river with current support levels and rates of advance.
Would take about 20 years at current rates.

Actually Russia has been advancing faster and faster this year. I'd be shocked if Russa doesn't speed up even more after the thaw this spring. They were measuring wins in meters before last summer and now Russia is advancing miles in a week in multiple spots.
