Why do tariffs hurt trade for us but not for other countries? Like Canada for instance. They have a trade surplus with the US yet they tariff the shit out of almost all our products. Many of their tariffs are over 100% and some are over 200%. How come it only works one way?

Well long term it does hurt both, and just makes it so that one or both countries look for different trading partners, which ends up a net negative as you’re eliminating sources of trade. Long term. I'm kind of torn on legal immigration. On one hand yes we do need some immigrants who love America to come in... especially ones that are skilled.
