I don't care about what's constitutional because when I argue policy I'm referring to changing the constitution if we have to.
- Income tax worked back in the day because the nation didn't have a lot of wealth and businesses were local / regional / national.
- We have significantly grown wealth AND the consolidation of wealth in this country.
- Businesses have transferred a HUGE portion of the work offshore where we don't collect the income tax we used to... this is a problem.
- You cannot have a good society where 0.1% of the population has like 50% of the wealth, and NEVER has to pay tax on it because a) they never sell and b) use shady loopholes when they die to avoid paying the tax.
- Companies are valued ALL the time. Wealth is value ALL the time. If you started a company from scratch that is worth $10B, and we tax it yearly at 1%, you can:
- Sell shares of that business to raise the revenue required
- Borrow against your asset to raise the revenue required
