JD did not push hard enough on MN law as you stated and could have scored a few more points if he had. What both Trump and JD are missing, imo, is the 'gotcha' on abortion. I would have loved to see JD say, 'VP Harris and Gov Walz constantly talk about a woman's rights and healthcare when talking about abortion. What about the baby's rights and healthcare? When does the baby begin to have rights? In MN, CA, CO (and maybe others I don't know), the baby has NO rights until after birth. Yet, in every one of those states, an unborn fetus whose pregnant mother is murdered can be considered as a SECOND life when charging the murderer. And, each one of those states define when that fetus is considered a second life differently just like each state can have its own abortion laws. How can your state, Gov Walz, and others say that it's OK for a mother to kill her unborn child in the 30th or 35th week but a murderer can be convicted of killing that same unborn child in week 22?' Most people who are adamant about preserving abortion rights have never thought about this side of the issue. Some may say, 'It's totally different'. To which JD (or I) would reply, 'Not to the baby'. To me as a logically thinking individual, it makes zero sense that a state would define a fetus as a 2nd life when murdered but not a life at all when being aborted. If more people would actually consider this inconsistency, I believe there could be a reasonable limit set on unrestricted abortions. Politically, a huge majority are against late term abortions. Capitalize on that overwhelming majority's opinion and nail Harris/Walz down on when, exactly, the definition of 'late term' should begin?

The best choice is to not push on this issue at the moment. It’s a losing argument on a lesser election issue.

There is another way to do this without large reservoirs. USDA would build multiple small reservoirs on private lands which is what's happened in most of Kentucky. They work with private landowners and get them to install these with cost sharing. I know a little bit about flooding, that's a joke, but do not know that watershed. Areas subject to flooding are going to flood. The only hope is trying to hold water back. This is probably the only way around this issue in the future.

Most people don't even know that the above exist. This is the type of government program that's successful and not intrusive.

Douglas lake is at 991 ft above sea level and French River is at 1990 or so. A lake 1000 ft below the problem is definitely no answer.

I don’t necessarily disagree. I grew up next to one of these flood control lakes in KY built after the 77 flood and currently live 1/2 the year on a man made TVA lake for power generation & flood control. They help with flooding that hits every 5-10 years.

I fish Douglas probably 20 times per year. I know the French Broad and Nolichucky very well. The issue is how these highland reservoirs are made. The necessary step downs, the cutting and blasting into rock, environmental red-tape and the cost would be astronomical today. Then there’s the question does a once an every 100-150 year catastrophe validate the cost as well as seizing of lands from citizens? 25” of rain would decimate our flood control dams in KY and our mountains aren’t nearly as big as Mt Mitchell or the Smokies who have more runoff.

The issues in Western NC are much worse than people know. I finally got to check in on some friends around Banner Elk & Boone today. They’re able to get things they need. They took it hard but not nearly as hard as Asheville, Chimney Rock, Black Mountain and other nearby areas. Government is seizing aid to be redistributed. Death tolls will skyrocket if they’re ever reported. Some of the 1st hand reports from linemen are awful and sound like WW2 war zones.

Our church had to coordinate with a church there. I have no idea beyond that who is in charge.
